I purchased a Florida White Doe from a very reputable breeder in Missouri, who also is a judge and the doe is just remarkable! Not skittish, nothing seems to upset her, I can pet her like a cat and she's very good natured and a excellent mother. I had to ask the breeder did she do any special to get this doe the way she is? She said she puts a kill tag on any of her rabbits that are aggressive and she does handle the young once the come out of the nesting box. She's been doing this for decades and now she has some of the best FW rabbits you could ask for.

For those that don’t know, rabbits have blind spots right in front of their face, approach from directly infront, they’re more likely to attack you as they can’t tell what you are. Breeding does tends to make them more aggressive and territorial. Let them exercise and burn off energy, eat well and have fun. Be humane and get a happy bunny back.

I got 3 rex does this past weekend from a good breeder/friend of mine. very nervous, skittish and anxious. for the first 24 hrs just left them alone to get used to the new surroundings. by Monday afternoon they were ready for me to touch them. you are correct: patience is a big part of rabbitry. thanks for the video!

We have an aggressive doe...she was that way when she was too young to breed...I'd try and clean the cage and she'd lunge and scratch at me...should have shelved her I suppose...but I only got 2 does and 1 proven buck. By error in making the rabbit hutches, she broke her leg...the joint that connects the foot...don't laugh or boo me...but I took her to vet and yes, paid $$$ to have it removed and now she is a tripod...so, I want to try to get some of my money back by getting her bred...I bred the other doe as I wanted her to have more time to recoup and get stronger or I would have bred both. She is fine and gets along great being a tripod but I noticed she had scabs in one ear and watched the ear mite videos...so I got a syringe(no needle) and put olive oil in it...hubby slowly put his hand in and talked and petted her...then reached beyond her ears to grab the nape of the neck (she was in the back of the cage) to bring her forward for me to inject the oil...well, all heck took place and she screamed and jerked and it as a big mess...yeah, I did get the ears done but the trauma was upsetting...Now, I have no idea how to be able to get her out of the cage later this month to put in the bucks cage to breed her...physically, she is fine now...hoping that after first doe has her litter and no issues to deal with...I will breed 2'nd doe and keep it going until summer gets too hot for them. Hoping you have any ideas?
@Slightlyrednecked

I am sorry to hear about all the trouble you are having with her. If it were me I don't think I would breed her. Sometimes those negative traits can be passed on to the next generation. But sometimes not so if you want to breed her go for it. As far as getting her out of the cage, I don't really have any good suggestions except for doing what you described already to get a hold of her. An aggressive doe is just difficult to handle no matter what. Make sure to wear thick heavy sleeves and gloves so you don't get bit when you are handling her.

I've got a really aggressive doe but she's an excellent mother, big litters, pulls tons of fur. I've been keeping her because she's such a good mother but she's just getting meaner and meaner and I'm not quite sure where to draw the line.
@Slightlyrednecked

Good question. I can't answer that for you but personally I don't tolerate aggressive rabbits. I can handle one that is a little on the skittish side but if it is lunging and biting at me it goes to the freezer. just my personal opinion though.

That mean gene is a hereditary trait you will have times of mean rabbits if you don't fix that. And there is only one way I know how to fix a mean rabbit. ...... Now if she just needs to breed them that's that but if she mean always. Nope ....she's gone

Right now I have 2 aggressive (California)does, they where bred yesterday, I'm going to wait till they have there young and see if they are still aggressive if so they will probably go to the freezer. But they are crazy they jump, bite, and scratch at me and try to go for my face, Love the vid. keep em comin.

Well, look on the bright side more meat in the freezer. Sounds good. I hope that mine are mean because they are just wanting to be bred, they are really beautiful rabbits, and I would hate to put them in the freezer because of how big they are also. Well keep up the good content and hope you have a blessed rest of the week.

I have a doe that is wonderful and gentle with me, but very ugly with other rabbits. She is so jealous when the other rabbits are petted and she has to wait. Then she shoves the other rabbits aside and bites them if necessary. We still have to wait 2 months til our only buck is old enough to breed but I hope she will let him!

one of my does will go at my wife any chance she gets, especially right after she kindles!!! yet she will always let me pet her and put my face right in her cage to kiss her while she chins me even with a new litter lol. they definitely have their favorite people :) what helps if you do have a cage agressive rabbit or a protective mama is bring them some nice lettuces or a handful of dandelion greens :)

It is not abnormal. There probably isn't really anything you can do and trying to help is most likely just going to stress her out more than help. More than likely she is fine and you probably already have baby rabbits. :)

With as many rabbits as I have I'm shocked I don't have that problem. I seen your one video were the one rabbit jumped at you. At the beginning of the video I said the same thing dinner it's not nice but honestly how would you even rehome a rabbit that's acting like that no one would want them. Thanks for sharing tips for my kids cause they are always trying to stuck their fingers in the cages. Now I can tell them why the rabbits will bite them.

yup. When my grandkids are over I always have to tell them to not stick there fingers in the cages. I guess if they get bit once they will learn to not do it again. That is how I learned not to stick my fingers in front of a hamsters mouth when I was a kid.

I love rabbits and have them as pets, but I'm not a vegetarian and think killing ones own meat is a better alternative to grocery store-bought cage/factory-raised meat. Which begs the concern, don't keep them in terrible cages like that up until their death. Let them have space to run around and enjoy their life. Those cages are even gridded at the base- that's awful.

The mesh bottom is so they don’t have to live in their own urine and feces and get diseases. Running in the yard invites mites and fleas if you have dogs or cats.

Wire cages are bad especially for there feet it can cause infections on their feet...u should use fleece under the and not anything else use a couple of layers of it so their feet aren't hurt...fleese is the only safe kind of soft material that can also keep them warm...if not just just don't have them at all
@Slightlyrednecked
@Slightlyrednecked 6 жыл бұрын
I know you mean well but you are mistaken. Fleece is a terrible idea for flooring. It is incredibly hard to clean and will harbor bacteria. Open wire floors are much cleaner and the rabbits have no problem with them. They actually prefer them in most cases. Keep in mind that these are meat rabbits and not pet breeds. They are bred to live in wire cages.
@rongray4587
@rongray4587 6 жыл бұрын
Misinformed know it all? Might want to read Storey's Guide to raising rabbits. Wire cages are more sanitary and I have not had one case of sore feet in my rabbits. Just clean them periodically. I've got some of the heathiest rabbits you have ever saw. Fleece can become a breeding ground for bacterial & microorganisms.
