I'm back !! Kevin you have shown the way to boil eggs. I said I would report back and I am very happy to comment on this video. So many recipes truly fail. Many say to not add salt. The other people who have hard boiled egg videos need to watch this and just do it. It works just like Kevin says. I just want to go back to all the others and where I gave a negative comment, replace it with a link to this recipe. Thank you Kevin.

@@KReesethebeast Hmm... funny, I came to the comment section just to comment on the salt thing. Why is it I never use salt, and they peel right off with no problem? Its not the salt, it's the cold water shock treatment after cooking that does it. You're just wasting salt. Sorry to burst your bubble on this one, but I just figured you should know. Thanks for the video anyway, everything else is great. Cheers..

It has everything to do with the freshness of the eggs. Sounds like you live in the country. Try it with a new York egg that is two weeks old when you buy it.

I raise chickens. The reason that some boiled eggs are more difficult to peel is because they are too fresh. Very fresh eggs are hard to peel. Older eggs are easier. If you are getting fresh eggs then boil them with baking soda. This will release the shell from the meat. Shells will slip off.

Older eggs peel more easily because a pocket of air gets between egg and shell. I've been using baking soda successfully for years to make the eggs peel quickly. When the eggs are cooked, I cool them with cold water and ice cubes. Then one by one roll the eggs in my hands until the shell is cracked and just peel off the shells.

Thanks for this video! Depending on the pan, stir the salt in the water first so the salt doesn't pit the pan. If you don't have salt, baking soda works pretty well to. I bring mine to a rolling boil, remove from heat, cover and let sit 10 minutes. Rinse with cold water or let sit in the cool water. Store or peel and eat. My stove is gas, so when I kill the burner, the heat source is gone.

Just a tip, you can take that hot pot off the burner as soon as you cover it, to stop that boiling. Then let sit in the hot water 13 minutes. This way the yolk of your eggs will be all yellow, without that green tint they get when hot for too long. (Makes prettier deviled eggs, don't ya know?) You only need to bring the water to a boil, but as soon as it does, the eggs do not need to continue boiling at all. Hard-cooked eggs, as opposed to hard-boiled eggs, are more tender. You as SO RIGHT on the salt. I give mine a real good dose, it never seeps through the shell, but it sure does make peeling a whole lot easier.

You made my day, Kevin. I always hated peeling eggs. Today we hardboiled about 5 dozen eggs to make red beet eggs. I followed your advice and added salt to the water. We do not use Morton salt so I used Redmans Real Salt, about a small scoop per dozen eggs. They all shelled perfectly except one which might have been cracked before hand. Some eggs we used were old and some were fresh but that did not make a difference! I notice this video had very high views which tells me there are a lot of people out there that have had trouble peeling eggs Again thanks much.

I do same but take off burnner for 15 minutes. Immediately place eggs in bowl of ice water. The sudden chill seperates eggs from shell. Fresher the egg, harder to peel if not using ice method. If not peeling eggs right away, using a little vinegar when boiling. Gives them a purple tint so you know they've been cooked. We had 6 kids all grown now. But they would sometimes crack an uncooked egg when a sibling swapped eggs for a joke. Lol Remember too, if eggs float to top of cold water when you start to boil, discard. Spoiled egg. We always put salt in but different reason. If shell cracks during cooking, contents stay in shell instead of spreading out everywhere. Old trick my aunt showed me back on her farm in Wva where my job was gathering the eggs from dozens of hens. Then fried in bacon grease on huge wood/coal stove in iron cast skillet. Oops, sorry for the trip down memory lane but was so good

Thanks for asking for my recipe, Bobbie Sue Sanders. I did Kevin Reese's technique and it works GREAT! except I would let the eggs set in the hot water no more than 12 minutes (I left for 15 minutes and the yolks were a little dark). When done, tap the ends and roll lightly on counter .. the peelings come right off! WOO HOO! Here is my recipe, and everyone LOVES my deviled eggs! ( I think it's the vinegar tang that makes them so great) .. I do not use mustard for this. Donna’s Recipe for Deviled Eggs: (24 eggs) Mash 24 yolks (save 4 whites) with fork. With spatula Stir in 1/3 cup onion flakes (or 1/ 4 cup yellow onion, chopped) - 5-6 tsp. white vinegar - 2 1/2 tsp. Himalania salt - 1/4-1/2 tsp. Sprouts black pepper (amount depends on taste). Stir in 4 remaining whites, chopped fine), and Vegenaise or mayo (I use Best Foods if no Vegenaise). Spoon into halved boiled eggs. Sprinkle lightly (or more) with cayenne pepper. TADA NOTES: 1) Real onions are moister than flakes, so use less mustard; but I prefer onion flakes for this recipe. Also, flakes can handle more vinegar and mayo. 2) Miracle Whip, Best Foods, etc. are a little nasty because of whatever, including that they have icky salt. They are also wetter than Vegenaise, so use less of them and add less salt.

You would need to add a boatload of salt in order to raise the boiling point Science bitch⬇️ Jesse from breaking bad You would have to add 58 grams of salt just to raise the boiling point of a liter of water by one half of a degree Celsius. Basically, the amount of salt people add to water for cooking doesn't affect the boiling point at all.

i think that by adding salt to the water, it makes the water boil at a higher temperature, causing the eggs to boil faster. is that right? thats how ive boiled my eggs.

Saw your video this morning & gave it a go & success !!! Had 1 egg explode for some reason but rest were perfect. Another tip is, when cool enough to handle, break the shell on the fatter end and pull it off. Then crack and peel down the side while cool water is running over the egg. Once the shell is loose enough, the water will hydraulically pop the shell loose from the rest of the egg.

When using the cold water , why not leave the pan under the cold running water , let the pan over flow and eventually all the hot water is gone. rather than dumping the water out first . Less chance of a burn and the eggs would be cooled. I also never use salt, don't need it.

So I have been boiling eggs for 50+ years. I just bought a dozen to make egg salad, but I did not wait a week or two before they would peel easy. I tried your method- very easy to do. I did everything to the precise instruction, but I wanted to make the salad the next day. After the second cooling wash, I drained the eggs and put them n the refrigerator. Today I took the eggs out and let them sit for a while as I fed my dogs, did some lawn work, etc. I actually forgot about them for maybe half an hour. I started to peel the top eggs from the bowl and it was quite a mess. Most of the egg stuck to the shell and I lost a lot of the white part. As I worked down the stack, the lower eggs were still cool from the refrigerator and they peeled perfectly. So the moral here is that if you want this technique to work, leave them in the refrig and peel them COLD. When I did that, the shells came off quickly and easily. I will always hard boil my eggs this way from ow on. Thanks Mr. Reese!!!!!

The salt does not transfer into the egg and it's actually a chemical reaction that you're seeking that helps the water to boil. It's called nebulosus. Same thing that makes Mentos volatile in a Diet Coke bottle, but that is hyper-nebulosus.

The science behind it is that you are tempering the eggs after they are boiled. You shock them by putting them into a bath of cold water immediately after the hot water is drained, thus cooling down the temperature of the eggs so they'll shrink inside the shell, making them easier to peel. Great tutorial, btw
