He’s very, very talented at communicating with people, and he knows how to train a dog. He’s going to be someone who changes an awful lot of lives for the better - dogs AND humans. He’s clearly ambitious in the best way possible, not egotistical, and he deserves to go as far as I think he will!! He’s brilliant. In the true sense of the word.

Relationship is so important . My father in law has 6 dogs on the ranch. None in which he has trained that much. However they follow him to the end of the world. Listen when he calls. And guard the ranch with their life with little to no training. The relationship he built was through time , working together, and sleeping close .

Yes!!! Explained to me like the nerd that I am. I am guilty of 1) lying to my dogs 2) talking too much and 3) unproductive social interactions (and have EXACTLY the consequence Miles describes - a dog who is neutral when they want to be). In only the few days since I've made changes my dogs seem more relaxed on walks and I'm much happier.

I'm so impressed with what I learned on relationship building and ALL the things I am doing wrong (and right). But mostly wrong... This is fantastic information and I can see the benefits and how important this core relationship building is to EVERYTHING else you do with your dog. It's going to be some tough love around our house going forward. Gotta go pick up some toys... I'm hooked. This gentlemen is very intelligent and I love the way he explains things. Best video on dog training I have ever seen by a mile. And I watch quite a few.

Dude I'm going to give you the most props for addressing the things with people that nobody else on this platform is addressing. I don't know how you came about knowing what needed to be put out there at such a young age you have such incredible wisdom. I'm going to guess that you were probably raised around dogs and somebody in your life that was knowledgeable! The scene behind all these tools and methods is what needs to be defined. You have to start with your canvas before the art can be created. You can't take chaos and turn it into perfection without the dog being able to 100% trust in the human and that takes the human thinking in a way that is unnatural and understanding what needs to be done versus what we feel the need to do.

I have a 50% mini Australian Shepard, 1/4 poodle, 1/4 Burmese mountain dog mix. 4 month old pup. She pulls the Aussie. Very high energy. Very intelligent. Learns QUICKLY. I started taking her to the dog park because she really needs to RUN. There’s one dog there that she gets along extremely well with . I train her at home and play endless fetch but there’s nothing that seems to tire her out more than running laps with her dog park friend. Now I learn that dog parks are bad…. I completely understand about not “socializing” out on walks with random dogs. I tell people she’s in training. However so many people want to pet her and getting all high pitched with their voices, waiving their hands around, “ oh she’s so cute she’s so cute”! She thinks they want to play so she’ll jump up on them. Then I have to explain. I don’t allow her to jump up on people… etc etc .. I’m so tired of explaining. I feel like putting a sign on her that says “don’t touch or talk to me. In training “!!

Holy shit thank you soo much for actually explaining this! My brother had a dog that has, due to unforeseen circumstances, become my dog now. Now we've been raised on a farm, but never had a dog, so this level of training and trust between a dog and handler is completely new to me. She's since come a long way, I've managed to get her to a loose leash walk, and reinforced her respect towards humans/us, but now I want to tackle some of her other distracted behaviors and eventually, get to an off leash trust between me and her. I've only had her for 2 months, and I'm again excited to continue teaching her, because you have taught me. Again, thank you for explaining what most trainers neglect to.

Thanks for this….especially about trust…..I advocate for my dog, shoo off the ones that rush up, avoid the dog the owner won’t even call off because it’s ‘friendly’. I thought I was neurotic 😅, my dog doesn’t want to meet other dogs, it makes him nervous, he has fear based reactivity. He loves the time out on our walks, swims, whatever, doesn’t need any other company. You put into words what I can see I should do, but didn’t really process. Great tutorial!

Although I won't be taking this training right now (I just started another 8 week course that I am invested in, I have to say I'm really impressed with these videos. This has to be the dog trainer with the most sense I have ever encountered. Not only is he eloquent, charismatic, and an incredible public speaker, but he is obviously very knowledgable about dogs and training. I have been watching videos for the past few hours and have learned so much. I have read a lot of books and seen a lot of videos from different trainers, but none have made me understand training as much as this guy. I am sure the course must be great. Kind of wish had discovered him earlier.

And the videos don't just show a trained dog doing things to command. They show untrained dog going through the training, making all the mistakes that your own dog will make. This makes it all incredibly usefully. Congratulations for a wonderful and helpful channel.

As a multiple german shepperd owner I state that love is central. Love goes with warmth, hugs, playing, laughing. Then comes protection and food that you his master provide. Then comes obédience that goes with short firm punishments if the rules are not followed. No treats. My dogs know they have a super life with me, if they go by the rules. When they are about 1 yr old, they are guided missiles. They trust and love me and vice versa.
@KatherinesComeback
@KatherinesComeback 4 ай бұрын
Could I ask for examples of the short firm punishments? I’ve got a GSD but I’m struggling, I don’t want to hit or shout at him because everyone says that’s the exact opposite of what I should do
@rayerscarpensael2300
@rayerscarpensael2300 4 ай бұрын
@@KatherinesComeback for me the only thing that works are firm short punishments and that means physical. By grabbing him firmly, pushing to the ground or a short nose hit with 2 fingers. It does not have to be too painful if you yell briefly at the same time with some weird nose like stumping your feet, just so the next time they remember when they want to attack that other dog they ll think twice and make a short calculation risk benefits. You have to remind them every couple of weeks who s in charge otherwise they forget. This does not work when he sees a deer and he is already 100 yards away, the pleasure outweighs any punishment lol. This said my GS sleeps in my bed, we are buddies above all. He just knows making trouble means master mad. But you see them constantly calculate.

I have watched many hours of your videos over the past few days, have already seen a change in behavior in my unruly pup using your methods, and donated a bit your channel. Overall your content is top notch... with the exception of some parts of this video. Specifically about avoiding social interactions with people and other dogs. That is part of the joy of having a dog, and many dogs enjoy them tremendously when judiciously selected. My dog runs with great enthusiasm into the small dog park and spends the next 45 minutes running himself to exhaustion - chasing and being chased, tail and ears up, and great excitement in his eyes. And he absolutely loves interactions with some of our neighbors. One of my goals in curing his leash reactivity is not simply to make him indifferent to other dogs and people, but to be able to allow him to approach dogs of his choosing and interact with them. I want to follow your advice and reach him when it is OK to ebullient and when he needs to stick to me. That is part of him making good decisions.

Another way to think about that “shut up” rule is they are English language learners. If you were learning a new language, you would want your teacher to speak slowly and clearly focusing on the *important* vocabulary. It’s hard to parse out babble from important words when you’re learning a new language. Of course I’ve been talking to my dog nonstop since I got her 😅 but since I used to be a language teacher this analogy has helped me put it into focus and I’m going to try to do better.

This is good content. However I disagree with the reactivity section. My adopted dog was (on leash) HIGHLY reactive to other dogs. To play. To desensitise her, we allowed her to meet other dogs. It worked and she is making great progress.

this is the video ive always wanted to watch!!!! i'll be getting my first little dog in a year and ive always felt unsure about whether dog interactions at walks and parks will be appropriate for my dog cuz ive seen all sorts of things happen when bad interactions occur and then we get behavioral problems out of "nowhere"! but people wont stop talking about how important it is to let your dog greet stranger dogs and humans and go to parks to play with other dogs, yada yada.... but in reality, no! dogs don't need to interact with all sorts of people and dogs, as not everyone will treat the dog properly and the dog knows that! the same way you discourge your child from talking to strangers, cuz not everyone is to be trusted out there! now you've helped me realize that my dog will never need pointless stranger interactions, and i should never encourage it! got my solution, and it makes perfect sense! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Everything should be based off “love”. It’s hard for me to watch when trainers just write that off. When your dog has a genuine love for you everything else comes easy. To get this start by finding something you are both passionate about and do that together. Have fun with your dog, instill rules and get your dog addicted. Show the dog that you also genuinely like to play this game or do this thing. Later work the obedience into this activity and it will be the groundwork for everything the dog needs to know

(My friend did my dog’s two walks today as I’m unwell) I love the well recorded videos with real life demonstrations and with different dogs, and explaining the psychology. Makes so much sense.

Excellent! You are a wonderful teacher, and it’s great to hear validation to some of the ways I have come to interact with my dogs. I have 2 Jack Russells, and people always ask how I can stand them bc of the reputation they have. We have a great relationship! Mutual respect and no nonsensical rules.

Subscribed! You explained what I knew but didn’t understand. The comprehension now you have explained it in a breakdown, simply and relatable is mind blowing. Thank you 🙏 Implemented the place/Crete with my youngest (as I didn’t think the same room was too much freedom) and the difference in one day is noticeable. Wishing you all the luck with your journey. I will be telling all to subscribe. ❤ Thank you 🙏
