First time watching your channel and I have subscribed. We just started working on the edging of our lawn ourselves and aren't sure how to handle the excess dirt. A few months after we moved in (2016) we had a landscaper do the edging and he hauled out the excess dirt. Love the way you explain the process...it is perfection. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

Now that's what I'm talking about !! My lawnman has no idea of how serious I take my yard especially a good clean defined lawn, after watching this you've inspired me to go buy me a lawnmower and do my own lawn, I've been paying my lawnman for several years and it has never been a REAL clean cut, it makes a huge difference in your yard. Keep up the good work 😊✌🏽

What's up my friend. Not far from you in Thomasville! Just found you on here, but the first video I watched I thought, this looks like my area. Haha. Great video pal! I do my edges with a straight shovel. I rented a trencher one time. It does well, but if you do your edges in our area about now, that ground is rotten and soft, so makes life easier. If doing edges in summer, get a mechanical. That clay is rock solid! Haha.

I too use a hard edger on my beds and not just for crisping up concrete to turf edges. Going to have to look into one of those disc things as they look great for edge maintenance. How do you compare pine needles vs mulch? I usually do a weed and feed sprinkle , stir and "till" mulch beds then throw new mulch down. Also very interested in how you weed the beds as I have them surrounding our house, and will be adding a good mess more this spring!

Nice looking edges. In my area we don't have soil such as you depict, it's mostly hardpan clay and rocks. Edging entails the exact same technique as you demonstrate, but with a lot more expenditure of energy.

That top soil you see was brought in and put around my trees. The rest of the edges are rock hard clay. I used the bed edging machine in those areas

We just built a home & new to this whole edging thing but I love how it looks!! We have garden beds with a black tube but it just doesn’t look neat, can I edge an already bordered landscape area? Weed-whacking is great but it doesn’t look as clean as I’d like. Also, edging a driveway & patio. Is it the same concept? I found your videos super helpful over others, but curious what steps to edge those other areas. Thank you!!

Papa Pete, I like the intro, and man those edges look crisp. I've used a bed redefiner before, and I was pulling it, and not pushing it like a stick edger. I had great results with it doing it that way. Congrats on 2500, here's to the next goal! #getyourdirtright

Thanks for this video! I really like how you explained things. It was comprehensive without being overly or unnecessarily technical. Would love your opinion on my situation. I live in central Florida and have a shaded front lawn and a very sunny backyard with shaded edges/corners. We have St. Augustine right now but I’d really like to have two different types (1 for front, 1 for back). I am fencing in the front so I’d like something that is super thick and soft for light play for our kids, than for the back I’d like something nice but durable as we have a big dog who loves to run and play. I have redone a lawn before with sod in South FL and learned a lot during that process but this will be my first time seeding. I want to do it myself and am willing to invest the time and effort (and funds) necessary to have what I want. I enjoy maintaining the lawn as well so extra maintenance is not an issue. That being said, as much as I’d love to have Kentucky Bluegrass, I understand my options are probably limited. Any guidance or ideas on what my options are? Thanks!

My Ego powerhead accepts an edger attachment. I simply use the edger blade to cut through the dirt and create a wide trench. Sometimes I will go at the edge at 90 degrees so that the blade throws the extra dirt back into the plant bed. Works pretty good as long as there is nothing that can break behind you. I'd love one of those redefiners but $599 is kinda steep for a single purpose tool especially since I have given up on gas powered equipment.
