Swimmer puppy syndrome. In this video I will show you how to Tape the legs of a swimmer puppy to help strengthen the muscles and to help them walk properly. There other ways to also help and we will make a few videos on that soon. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thank you so much for making this video! My 3-4 weeks old Labrador puppy was experiencing swimmer puppy syndrome and I tried this. There was improvement within 3 days, and within a week, I could see she was trying to stand up on her own. Now she is 5 weeks old running and walking with no problem!! So yes, for those who ask whether this works, yes it does but you've to be consistent with it. Don't lose hope. It will take at least a week to see some improvement, but it will definitely work!! Also try some physiotherapy, then you can see fast results.

Have you ever taped a puppy that was born with back legs bowed? I can't find anything on this. Idk if this taping would help bowed legs.

Quick question fam did his feet straighten out once he got stronger on the back legs?? I have a 4 week old with swimmers just tied her feet off but they are pointing outward

I honestly can't remember how old they were here but yes you can definitely still do this at 3 weeks old for sure

Just took my 3 day old pups in and vet says 2 have swimmers chest. This is my 8th litter and I’ve never had this happen. Is it too early to start taping?

I had a few pug pups with this- we put a bolster up underneath their little chests also to lift them off the ground a bit so their chests wouldn’t be squashed flat. Do you ever do that as well?

@@chasegrace4317 I don’t have it anymore but it was this clear plastic that was flexible and we used a roller (like what you would put in your hair) (but a real small one) under the chest and affixed it under and around the chest shoulder area where it was tied with strong little leather pieces-

Is there a certain amount of days we have to use this method or only until we see improvement? So far my puppy is getting better at walking and it's been two or three days

That's a great question, so you will just have to judge, it would be a per puppy case by case. You could always take the tape off and play with them on some carpet or some type of surface that gives them great traction see how they're doing. Playing with them on that kind of a surface seems to be a great exercise in general.

Quick question, well really two, is this method really okay for a 4 week or a nearly 4 week old puppy, and when wrapping the puppy's legs, does the wrapping need to be tight or just enough to stay attached to the puppy's legs?

Safe to do this when puppies should be walking. If all the pups are walking, then yes. If not yet, try carpet or a rug with traction. Only tight enough to stay. Dont cut off circulation.

Would a female puppy with swimmers syndrome be a poor choice as a breeder? I am finding mixed information that it's hereditary or that it gets worse with age thanks for your help

I would say as long as you don't feel it's genetic then it should be fine, a lot of times it's because they were a bigger puppy and the muscles just need help developing. Other times it's because they're welping area Didn't have a good surface for them to get traction and stand up to develop their muscle

@@ArrowheadBulldogsandBengals thanks for your reply. I really have no way to tell if it is genetic the breeder has sent me a video of her walking. And clams the tape was just to help her develop.

@@FoundryRC I would say go with your gut instinct but definitely but definitely before you make a final payment meant or accept the puppy that it's walking properly at that point

I have 3 4 week old French bulldog puppies and I noticed that one of them is experiencing swimmer syndrome. Unlike the other two pups this one doesn’t want to walk or crawl. I just taped up his feet and hopefully it will help him.

Good question. Usually just 3-4 days will do the trick. You'll want to switch out the tape every couple of days

This is one of the best things you can do. Also you can build a long Box just wider than their hips without a top on it and just have them walk back-and-forth in it. It will put their legs in the right position and help strengthen their muscles as they walk in it.

Hello,make sure they don't have a slick surface there walking on,not until there walking well.Tape its legs in the proper position. You can also build a box walk way.with a Bottom and 2 sides, 3 to 4 ft long.just make it a little wider then there hips.Have them walk back and forth several times a day,this strengthens there legs.this should help pretty quickly
