Stephanie, I can't thank you enough!!!! I have tried to hem these dresses by pinning everything and I still wasn't overly happy. Not only was this super easy, it's beautiful!!!! I also need to put my 2 cents in on the baby lock machines. I own the imagine serger your using. I wouldn't be able to serge if it wasn't for the jet air threading! Plus with auto tensions make it an awesome machine. I can't say enough about how wonderful my serger is to use. I also have a ellegante 2 and the Serenade ( I owned a pfaff hated it). I have never had one major problem with any of them and I've owned them for years.

Thank you great videos, I have taken on the hemming and alteration of 3 bridesmaid dresses, don't feel so concerned now...I know I can do it. Only regret I wish I had that Baby lock overlocker.

Looks lovely!! Hope my serger can do this too. I dont have many settings so not sure I can make such a narrow hem. Certainly sad that i cannot regulate the differential 😢

On my BL Imagine sometimes, on a fabric, I will stitch around the rolled hem again with "knife up "(no cutting). good for covering when a stitch became "off track", to cover up/catch the tiny hole/tattered gap of edging.

What type of thread do I use in my serger for hemming chiffon?

Hi Sharon! Thanks for asking! I asked Stephanie your question and she said that you can use serger thread, sewing thread (if it will flow off of the spool well), or she also said if she was looking for a certain color or sheen, she used an embroidery thread in the loopers and regular serger or sewing thread in the needles. But, she said to always test the thread on practice fabric to make sure it looks good with the fabric color, the fabric type, and the serger stitch.

I used this technique since I thought it would be the easiest way to hem my grand daughter's full skirt chiffon prom dress. It was a disaster since half of it pulled out!!! Of course I had already cut off the skirt and the had to finish the old fashioned way. Not fun!

Hi Jane! So sorry this did not work for you! I have found that certain chiffons/fabrics need a wider stitch width to ensure that more of the raw fabric edge rolls into the rolled hem disabling the ability for it to pull off of the raw edge threads because of the additional fabric it has to hold onto. Hope this helps in the future!

I wonder if you use the film tape that you put on the top of the chiffon and roll hem with the serger.
