This is the most practical hip throw demonstration I've seen online. Also notice how he gets his waist line below the other person's. I've heard from other teachers that's important if the other guy is bigger than you.

As a Judoka , I say that your technique is very nice! I would like to add that torso should be wide , hikite hand must challenge constantly the pulling hand . If the opponent hip out try immediately harai gosh I! Oss coach 🤙🤙🤙🤙

In classic wrestling, a very similar move is very common called a “head and arm” instead of grabbing the body and tricep, you grab around the back of the head and the tricep.

As a judo man, gotta point out that all judo throws are solid but don't try these in competition until you can hit them with your eyes closed (meaning at the right moment and perfect timing), otherwise you risk being in a very bad position and getting thrown yourself depending where and how deep you are in the failed throw attempt. That's why the good old single doubles are way less technical and easier to master and safer (to some extent).

Yes. If you watch competition judo, generally most throws follow to the ground. There is a kata and a competition version. However, the kata, competition, and self defense versions differ depending on context.

This isn’t something I would recommend for someone against an opponent who is significantly larger. There are other options. Size disparity is overcome by substantially advanced skill, but there is a limit to everything.

But what if someone like him locks my shoulder before I even make a throw? What can I do about it?
@KnightJiuJitsu Жыл бұрын
That isn’t possible if you’re controlling their secondary arm, because they can’t get the rotation they would need to apply the shoulder crank.

@KnightJiuJitsu11 ай бұрын
Not sure what this comment means, because the grammar and I’m guessing misspelling…but yes, this throw works even if he is bigger. There’s this thing called KZfaq now…it’s amazing. You can search for judo competition and BJJ competition, hell, even in wrestling and Sambo…and you’ll see the hip throw being hit at all levels. Again, maybe I’m misunderstanding this comment, and it’s not actually ignorant and myopic, but as it’s written, it sounds like a 6th grader who has never seen anything resembling a fight wrote this.
