Everything Ed says makes perfect sense to me, I’ve had a couple of so-called coaches give me lessons, both times they tried to impose their style on me.. I was told my biggest problem is closing one eye on certain targets even though I was hitting them every time, I’m convinced to a point, there is no right or wrong if you’re comfortable and you’re hitting them it’s got to be right surely👍

One piece of advice that helped me hit more clays is to get hold of a section 1, then you’ve got 6 shots instead of 2. Literally tripled my accuracy. I’m sure that Ed was going to mention this himself, probably just forgot...

What does "get hold of a section 1" mean? I'm American, so forgive me.
@genghishank1

@@G31mR in British law a standard shotgun certificate only gives you the ability to own a ‘section 2’ shotgun that holds 3 rounds or less. A section 1 shotgun is a shotgun that holds more than 3 rounds. You need a firearms certificate if you want one of these (application process is a bit more of a pain in the arse)

When it comes to rough shooting, that would take practice and repetition to build muscle memory. Locking the action, getting into a proper stance while shouldering the stock, and work on sight picture with a target

As an instructor as well, with pretty decent credentials, please listen to the first 3 minutes of this video religiously. I'm a very new age instructor that deals with mainly very new or never shot before clientele. One of my main teaching points, is exactly what he says. Self awareness while you shoot. I have people explain to me why they wanted to start their gun where they did, and if and when they miss, what happened.? From start to finish.

For years I’ve put off buying an over under; and I don’t have the wealth to be fitted by a manufacturer or a pro. Are there any tips to knowing a commercial shotgun is acceptable in fit so that I can just get to shooting? Good heavens, if I looked like Ed Solomons I would rule the world. ~~ I love the idea of sporting clays, but in this video just like in real life I can't see either of the targets on the shooter's first pair. Couldn't see them either time he tried. I think to be good at skeet, trap, sporting clays, or dove hunting, you have to have incredibly good eyes. By the time I try to focus (and then figure speed, angle, distance, and lead) the target is GONE!

I have found that clay shooting is good and bad for gameshooting. Good for basic practice but only to an extent. Clays are more predictable but usually much harder to shoot, you can easily over lead your game birds on farm style shoots. If you have good gun movement then aiming for beaks usually works (for me), addsome if further than usual. However I can't afford pegs to shoot the super duper high bullet birds.

I treat sporting clays as training for hunting. For me that's flushing birds in the field. I intentionally do NOT pre mount the gun because operationally, mounting and firing from field carry on the flush is how the business happens.

As with most of these kinds of videos, the targets are mostly invisible. The solution is very simple- Back the camera away from the shooters and zoom way in. Look at how it’s done in filming an American baseball game, and how the pitcher, batter and catcher are all in the same focal plane and show almost the same apparent size,. Thus you can see the ball, no problem, all the way from pitcher to catcher. They’re using telephoto lenses from behind the outfield.
