I like the straight to the point style. I’ve watched dozens of golf teaching videos where you’re treated like a beginner. The vast majority of viewers are amateur golfers who are experienced and know a lot about the game but need tips to tweak their game or cure a habit. What you get here is some respect and acknowledgement that you are a GOLFER already.

Ihave struggled with a slice forever. But your explanation of the geometry as well as the progressive drills is very helpful. I just tried this as you suggested at the range and it is working. I know it’s going to take practice but you’ve given me hope I can learn to hit a draw. Thank you!!!

Hi Adam! Finally!!! A video that I can apply to my swing that makes sense! I’ve watched COUNTLESS videos on how to hit a draw or stop slicing and the common theme was to swing shallow and/ or finish more to the right. Neither ever worked for me- shallow resulted in coming in so low that I often “drop kicked” my driver and trying to swing further to the right produced near misses and a really awkward swing path with almost no power. The example you give with the ping pong paddle or tennis racket actually makes wayyy more sense! Thank you thank you thank you!!! This works!!!!

It can be done folks! I took my 79 year old father to an indoor golf place yesterday so that I could show him in slow motion what his club was doing at impact, because he struggles with a slice (and I have a natural inside out swing). And within ten minutes I had him going from a pretty drastic outside-inside swing to an inside out! I was able to use this video to build his swing up just a little at a time and to use Adam's words, in a very playful and fun way and that quickly he had it! That's the key, play around with it and don't be in a hurry, walk before you run as the old saying goes!

Adam, just wanted to say thanks! I am a lifelong baseball player that always struggled with an open club face, even though I have a decent golf swing in general. This little drill really has helped reduce the amount of times I’ve missed to the right. Incredibly helpful and straight to the point!

I have struggled with slicing my drives. I watched many videos to no avail. Then I watched this video. Your use of a tennis racket resonated with me. I needed some kind of key while swinging and that was it. When I played tennis, I could hit top spin or back spin shots. So today, I was finally able to manipulate the club head by thinking of hitting a slight top spin shot with my driver. Finally, I was able to stop slicing the ball and hit it straight or a slight draw. Not just with my driver but with my irons as well. I can't thank you enough.

I went to the driving range this morning after watching this video, having played a bit of tennis in my youth I understood exactly the point being made , it didn't take long to get the feel of a slight twist closing the club face through impact. What this did for me was eliminate a violent slice or extreme fade to the right as the ball landed . What would look like a good shot , when it landed would go 15 or 20 yards to the right . I understand these are early days . However it was the best trip to a driving range I can remember ! Thanks for the tip .

Riding the R to L wind. One of the fundamentals of golf. Tee it high, swing up through it to the outside, and most of all hold your head back, don't peak. Nick Faldo illustrated this shot from Royal St. George's last week. He claimed to even use it to control distances into greens based on the pin positions. He even illustrated that with actual hits with both cuts to the right, and wind riding left flights

thank you very kindly Adam, your lessons are great ! To add one observation, .. , I have found that changing to a baseball grip with a normal full blooded drive, gives a wicked drawn verve or spin on the ball towards it's latter flight path, looping in in a jimmy connors top spin style, so for the top hand, tuck (both) thumbs in, hands facing opposites, it's the fastest way to nuke a troubling slice, by tucking in the thumbs, it allows the club to switch hit thru at impact, crossing over, hands crossing over radically and immediately, as the top hand thumb does not lock impede or bar this flexion movement, so it adds power and accuracy aswell, and after about 30 practise drives it becomes a tad sore on the bottom hand thumb joint, but it's the best grip by far for guaranteeing atleast a 3 to 5 yard curve in bend in the shot ! And for heavy shots, the most accurate, yet clearly softly softly is a better style. Just a brief comment, the grip i learnt from a golf manual from ivy league Boston colleges written in the 80s perhaps. Based on my recollections. 👍👌

Tried this today at the range…I went through the drill and I have to say that out of a large bucket of balls, I only sliced about 8-10 balls towards the end as I was beginning to tire. It felt a little funny trying to exaggerate my hips to the left and I did start to top a few shots, but for the most part, I was able to straighten out my slice with one bucket of balls. Still have a lot of work to do and I am trying to get my wrists working properly and swinging from the inside out rather than over the top, but I do believe your instructions helped and I have a new confidence to be able to hit the ball straight down the fairway…which will then generate a new feeling of enjoyment for the game!! Adam I have learned so much binge watching your videos over the past few days. My family thinks I'm nuts for shifting my hips and snapping towels around the house. Really awesome content. I played twice during that time and am noticing a huge difference in ball striking with irons especially. I was hitting ground before the ball often with irons and your vids have given so much insight into correcting that. Just thinking about snapping the towel during setup has made a huge difference. I will never miss a vid and will tell all my golf buddies to tune in great job. Also your swing analysis of pro golfers is best around.

Hey Adam--thanks so much for this video. Belief it or not, the swing cue that helped me the most was "relax and have fun!" So far with this instruction my slow 40% swing goes about 200 yards with a slight draw. Unfortunately, my longer swing goes about the same or less. Hey you're welcome! Can you address a question I've had about 'drawing' for a long time? : Would you say that moving the hips towards the target, (as you mention in this vid) is partly geared towards putting the ball back in the stance? .. ... i.e... that putting the ball back in the stance is a fundamental aspect to drawing the ball? .. It's something I have difficulty with, I'm trying to play shots more off my right foot after a recent lesson, but this seems an uncomfortable idea with the driver.

Swing to the right and up while keeping both elbows close to your body (like Mr Hogan said). This enables the left elbow to fold instead of keeping straight so that the club can release properly. You'll hit draws all day and wonder why it's so simple.

I’m a fader ,usually ,that can of course turn into a slice , my home course has 2 holes that a fade just won’t work so I’d love to develop a reliable draw , when I try (I stand a little closed , hood the clubface face a little and try hard to stay down on the shot )the shape is starting straight but turns bit right at the end ending up right rough or sometimes running into bigger trouble. Anyway my main point is some pros who fade have tried to draw the ball and gave up on it eg Martin kaymer and Collin Morikawa , kaymer in particular supposedly messed his game up doing it , should you stick to what you good at ?? I’m a 3 h cap , Also could just practicing a draw help to straighten your fade ?? Great video as always Adam !!

Thanks Alan. Practicing different shape shots generally builds skill, even if they are not your ‘go to shot’

Hi Adam; I tried this yesterday & can hit a snap hook but can't get it up in the air. Any thoughts? Also, I recall hearing that when hitting a draw, the ball should be teed lower & moved back in your stance. Do you agree? Thanks.
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 8 жыл бұрын
Mike, If anything move it back, but only a little. I'd experiment with tee height, but likely leave it the same. My guess is the toe is slamming past the heel at impact turning the face left (which is ok as you experiment with drawing the ball), which also rolls the loft off the club. At impact get the handle of the club (grip end) more up and ahead of the clubhead. this adds loft back and gets ball started more to the right. best of luck! Adam

Great video as always sir. I am a serial ‘down hitter’ of the ball (-5 degrees on average). Do you have any advice for controlling this/differentiating driver swing from iron swing, as I believe it it causing me to slice.

I've had a little bit success with, Fade = BackSwing more vertical, Draw = BackSwing not totally horizontal :) but about 40Deg or so.

Is there any reason to turn your wrist versus just starting with the face closed?
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the swing is in a circle, so there is a natural opening and closing, plus you can create more whip and speed this way. Hope this helps. All the best, Adam

to draw my ball i simply start by setting up a little closed to the golf ball ( to the right of square) instead of square, swing path is an in to out more in to out then your average normal swing, down the line swing path should be more out to the right than staight or down the line (kinda like your pushing out to the right with down swing). thanks for tips

attack angle has to be coming from the inside....imagine a golf ball right imagine 3 points or dots at the bottom of golf ball left middle right. the aim is to hit the left side (inside of goll ball) so attack angle has to come from the inside

Getting it going right to left is not my issue, overcooking it is. I struggle with stance alignment and clubface alignment when I am trying to do this. Im really trying to figure this out cause my go to shot off the tee is straight and I know enough to know that isnt good. When I am struggling I miss on both sides of the fairway. Liked the video though and I think with some work I can get it figured out.

Thanks Adam. I was a highly ranked tennis player as a youth and I understand spin - but I always found the formula of teaching 'just hold a stronger grip' a complete nightmare because it didn't work for me - it made it worse. I've had bad elbows and couldn't play golf for 12 years but just got back into golf a few months ago and had to start re-learning everything I figure out before - and you video was 'perfect' for me - just swing to the right and have the club closed to the line - so easy. Thanks again.

Could you please comment about ball position, keeping the club face open and the grip? I seem to hook the ball when the shots are rushed or with the strong grip. I have also read maintaining the wrist angle same all the way is critical. Great teaching videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@Scratchgolfacademy
@Scratchgolfacademy 7 жыл бұрын
Shailesh, Thanks very much. I'm a believer in pretty standard ball position (middle to a little forward of middle for irons, driver left instep), but it's not a hard and fast rule. Regards the grip, obviously the real key is delivering the clubface the way you want to through impact, rather than the grip. What I'm suggesting is that you need to find a grip that you find makes it easiest for you to deliver the face squarely to the ball, and it's a bit different from one player to the next. Sorry I don't have a more clear answer, but I hope this helps a bit. Best, Adam
