Hello, great explanations and overall great video !! I guess this is a Californian beach, could you do close ups of the post system you use and explain height adjustment of the net and tensioning system for your fellow coaches abroad ?

So have you built an offensive game with no hard driven balls at all? Or is there still a hard driven ball involved but with sort of the same mechanics as the shots rather than a full swing?Is there any video of you playing/hitting balls? :)

If the player doesnt get more than 8" above the net i feel like using indoor swing mechanics is not very effective, so i teach my students to hit a hard driven roll shot. Since it has so much overspin, they can actually hit the ball with more pace while keeping it in the court. If they use indoor swing mechanics i feel like they have to decellerate to keep the ball in the court so they lose control of the ball.

Im gonna post a video soon of me hitting all 3 roll shots, including the hard driven one.

@@menehunebvb Thanks, makes sense! :) I'll lean towards agreeing with you, players with this type of reach usually have to do "something different" in order to reach relative success, mostly I have seen this done with next level pokey-placement skills, but I can definitely see how this can work just as well or possibly even better. Thanks for sharing fresh perspectives, it's stimulating! :) Would absolutely love seeing actual game footage of this in action, maybe like a highlight reel of different successful shots (including the relatively "hard driven" balls!), or something similar! :)

Thanks brother. I love your videos because you always offer multiple points of view… And understand that there are many ways to be effective. Thats always been my mindset. I try to cater my coaching to each athlete. My main focus is undersized athletes, so roll shots are the first things I work on.

I agree that short and deep pokeys are very effective for shorter athletes, but they don’t work well with bad sets or from off the net. The hard driven roll shot is a game changer for shorter athletes but you gotta hit them on the way up… which makes it challenging for a lot of athletes. Hitting on the way up is hard to teach haha.

Should all your shots be contacted directly over your right shoulder? What about hard driven spikes and jump serves?
@menehunebvb3 күн бұрын
Depends on how high you are above the net. You can hit hard driven balls or downward shots in front of your shoulder if you are higher. How far back you can pull your elbow also affects this.

@@menehunebvb Ok, makes sense. In terms of height above the net, if I jump super hard I can probably get 8’ 8”, but I need a perfect set and a max jump to spike. Where would you recommend locating the ball relative to my right shoulder to hit the ball hard? Also what does the elbow have to do with it? I naturally swing low to high, even indoor when I’m spiking and can get up higher, so your method works for me. I’m just having trouble locating how far under or in front of me to shoot from.

@jackbehar2943 you have to experiment until you get the right trajectory you want. I would start right above your shoulder then adjust from there. There's no real rule in my opinion. Just gotta figure out what works for you. Just make sure your elbow is not way in front of the ball at impact.

@@menehunebvb Gotcha. Great videos, btw. I like your innovative thought process and willingness to challenge conventional thought. Very worthwhile.
