I like the starting position that you stated and the wrist position needed to generate power and torque! I thought these tips were very insightful and something I will definitely implement into my game!

Great tip Ben! I had a question that never seems to be addressed in mechanics demonstrations. How relaxed should your arm be during the swing? When I watch professionals, their swings appear to be smooth and relaxed (but fast). Sometimes when I try to swing hard, I actually hit the ball softer (think muscles stiffen up too much). Thanks for your help!

This is the best video on the forehand mechanic. Please pay attention to what Ben says about the wrist snap. No matter what the instructor says about the swing, if he/she fails to mention the wrist snap it will not work.

Don't snap your wrist when striking the ball! After 25 years of thinking the wrist snap was critical, I learned from a top-10 IRT player that all it does is introduce another movement variable that affects both accuracy and tennis elbow (esp. for back hand snapping). Yes, I've had the surgery. Everything else in the video is spot on.

what about the whip-like motion you're supposed to execute to get the racquethead speed?
@blakefrei3015
@blakefrei3015 7 ай бұрын
@@Fernandez218 you can slightly whip your wrist, just don't overdo it. You can get a good whip-like motion by rotating your hips, stepping into the shot, leading with your elbow, and rotating your upper body and shoulders. Keep your arm extended (but not too far) for both forehand and backhand. Try it, and you'll find that you get great power using more of your body than just the arm. This doesn't mean you never snap your wrist. If you don't have time to set your feet and use your whole body, some wrist snapping can help in a pinch. Just don't rely on your wrist too much, or you'll regret it later. I also hurt my shoulder by not relaxing my arm or leading with the elbow. You need to rely on body movement and mechanics rather than pure arm muscle and wrist snapping. If I execute the technique right, even my torn shoulder doesn't hurt. Proper technique helps your body last longer and gives you power. It's why those skinny pros can hit so hard for so many years. All technique.

***** Thanks Racquetball Warehouse. I forgot I've seen that video before. It's really good. My only wish would be to see the same slow motion side profile for the backhand like you did in the forehand video. It really helped me understand weight distribution and his basic footwork. That would also be interesting to see in a couple of different drills. Like hitting balls off the backwall. Thanks for your commitment to the sport. Love the videos

You showcase and play the game anyone can and should play. It's a pleasure to watch. In your forehand though...you are spot on with everything except one thing...the wrist snap. Watch your own video replaying your swing and there is no bending of the wrist when you complete your swing. As in swinging a baseball bat...there is a lot of fore arm rotation but no wrist snap. If you do bend your wrist you lose some strength holding the racquet. The snap comes from a loaded forearm rotation.

My dad was a good racquetball player who had played a lot of tennis prior to picking up racquetball. But to your answer your question, competitive tennis may actually make learning racquetball more difficult for you. The strokes/swings are completely different. I tried racquetball a few times, and I sucked - I am a pretty solid tennis player. I use a semi-western forehand, which I believe cannot be used in racquetball. I believe racquetball forehand grip is either continental or eastern. What grip are they telling you to use in racquetball?

I see a lot of these videos but not one tells you where the ball meets the racket for the most power.....
@RacquetballWarehouse
@RacquetballWarehouse 7 жыл бұрын
+mgpg61, the sweet-spot is in a slightly different place on each racquet model. An easy way to feel where the sweet-spot is on your racquet would be to hold the racquet parallel with the ground and bounce the racquetball on the stringbed about a foot up in the air; try bouncing it in different spots on the stringbed until you feel the perfect spot.

why do you wear a glove in racquetball and not in tennis?
@yemaster9000
@yemaster9000 Жыл бұрын
racquetball is all about power so using a glove maximizes your grip. tennis is more nuanced as you're not always trying to kill every ball. that's what I think anyway
