"We suffer more in imagination than in reality" is something i always have in mind when i start getting anxious before doing a high rep or 1rm squat

In the end, ignoring the inhibitions of the emotions (fear, anxiety, etc), the perfect muscle memory so that cues no longer have to be a focus etc is not enough. What gives strength to the will to push through in spite of the difficulty is conviction, which it derives from the clear idea in the mind of why I must push through. The motivation, the reason why I must succeed, must be greater. Most lifters fail because they lack conviction, sometimes even just to begin the workout. Auto-pilot is just the highest manifestation of it. It is not the lack of consciousness but its hyper focus on one thing. It is there that you will both discover why you lift and establish and entrench your choice in it, whether it be narcissism, vanity or some deeper reason.

I'll be dead serious: For my latest 1RM attempts in squat and ohp 2 weeks ago, I went to the window near the squat rack, watched the sky, the hills, and also visualized a giant Kyriakos Grizzly in the horizon doing his powerful roar. It went well.

Absolutely true, every time i go for a pr im forced into autopilot in order to actually lift it! If i overfocus on form the weight just doesnt budge.

I started doing much better at 1RMs when I started being calm rather than hyping up. Whether I hit the lift or not it doesn’t really matter, the success was in completing the gruelling training bloc beforehand & in time, the new PR is inevitable.

Are you still growing your legs with just breathing squads? And have you tried the same technique with other muscle groups/exercises with success?
@Candyapplebone

Yeah i am not there yet for the autopilot technique. I still need to think hard EDIT: Actually, I do have to psych myself up for 20 rep pendulum squats. I do two sets. It’s my top set for leg day. I always look forward to it, but when I actually get to the pendulum squat machine, and even while I’m warming up before it, that’s when the dread starts to kick in

Sounds like a watered down powering up. Took me a while to really get down how i like it now but since i learned how to raise my heart rate and mimic the feeling you get when you barely miss getting in a car accident or some other adrenaline inducing event, I've been testing it out for lifting in most of the sessions. Once you get good at it all you have to do is think about it and you'll feel your chest tighten, breathing breathing get deeper, heart start pounding, your arms get lighter, your palms start sweating, your sinuses and bronchii dilate, and you end up knocking out a previous 1rm for an easy two reps. No yelling, hyping or imagery necessary.

Mindset is definitely underrated. I remember using the 'Autopilot' technique when doing widowmaker squats. I think it'd be great to cut these videos into shorts. Let me know if you want help with that, I work with Jim Wendler.

I do think it’s a mindset works. However there’s days where I feel like garbage and the weight moves slow on warmups and I can still PR there’s days where warmups are super quick and I’m feeling it but then I try to add weight and boom no PR. But then again I suppose the days you warmup and it moves quick you assume in your brain the weight you add is gonna be easy Vs on warmups where you were fighting already so you need to fight.

Does the mind direct the body, or vice versa?
@outsiderdrovnen
@outsiderdrovnen Ай бұрын
The mind is to the body what a rider is to a horse. The mind is strong when it tames the body for a higher end, it is weak when it serves the body. I think it was Seneca who once said that the he was born to a more noble purpose than to serve the body and its desires.

The best way to see neverending increases in strength is to start at 1lb squats, and add 1 gram to your lift every week.

Hey Alec! This is kind of unrelated to the video but I could really use some help right now. Do you have any advice on fixing a partial meniscus tear? It’s pretty bad and I can’t squat to parallel with bw
@BudgieBurgess1972
@BudgieBurgess1972 Ай бұрын
Sorry to hear your injury but there's not much they can do for a meniscus tear. You could have it trimmed back but expected arthritis when you get older. The best you can do is try work in the range that you can and build your hamstrings up. I've had the same injury 20 years back and still squatting but I'm at a level of pain all the time. Keep the rest my body strong as hell, it will help. I can still squat mid 300 and deadlift over 500 in my 50 's but full knee flexion on my right leg is out of the question. Never give up on your body 💪

Don't just drop down on push-ups 🦾😤🦾 control the weight & hold the tension the whole through to the end Weighted dips can cause inflammation in the chest & going beyond 90° can cause injury
@Tan12

It can cause injury if you haven't built any strength and mobility in that beyond-90-degree range, sure.
