Just a thought to share. I was please with my progress, so I decided to video myself hitting the bag. I found out by watching myself, that it was a good lession in humility. I was making a lot of mistakes in my form and hand placments. Dropping my hands, standing to far away or to close. ETC. I highly recomend it. I tiwll put you on point. Just saying.

Coach, Thanks for being so generous in sharing your knowledge with us all. Because of you, I've finally got a decent speed-bag setup in my home, and I've been following your drills daily. It's only been a month, and I'm still on the first video, but I'm starting to lock in the rhythm with a bit of speed. It certainly helps, as a musician, to listen to the beats. Again, many thanks sir!

Hey coach. Loving the videos. I practice for an hour and then I return to your videos. I always find room for improvement. I go back to the bag and work harder, following your advice. I am getting better at all three tricks. I've moved on to the fist roll, as I was practicing that before I met you. Not very well I might add. Will you do a video on the fist roll, please?

Hey Don, thanks for the kind words and glad you are keeping up with your training and improving. I am not a big fan of the fist roll personally but will gladly do a video on that trick soon for you. I will include it in the "Doubles trick" that I am planning on recording soon for the advance tricks. Will also include slow mo clips to help making look clearer.

Good morning coach. Thanks to your awesome training I have the three moves down really well. Thanks for taking the time to provide these lessons. I have a question for you. What type and brand of gloves are you wearing in video number 3? I bought a pair of gloves but they're too puffy at the knuckles. I don't want to wrap my hands, as the gloves are a quick on and off fix for protecting my hands when hitting the bag. Your thoughts?
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Don, I don't use nor recommend gloves as they do NOT offer the right protection/support we need in boxing. I only use hand wraps. 180 " long Mexican style hand wraps. I actually have an instructional video on my channel on how to wrap your hands. It is not easy at first, but keep trying and you will get it right. Also you will look so much cooler than the gloves.

How important is the swivel? I have the one you are using in the video on my old platform. I just got a new professional platform and it came with a swivel that has, sort of a bike chain link attached to the top link. It seems to be harder to control the bag. Do you recommend changing it, or should I learn to control the harder to use one?
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 6 жыл бұрын
I know that knew swivel you got with the new rig you just got. I had those on two of my speed bag platforms and changed them to the ones currently installed. I personally found the chain link ones to be extremely finicky and caused the bag to sway all over the place. So I would recommend you install the old one you had on the new platform.

Good Day Coach, having some hard time to keep the bag bouncing straight. It going right when I hit with the right hand and straight with the left hand. Even if I slow down the rym. Ok, my fast rate is prety low. ;-) Any Tip
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you are hitting the bag on the side with your right hand and not in the center of the bag. Try moving back a little and focus on hitting the bag in the center. Try NOT to hit hard at the beginning and see how it goes. Let me know what happens and we could try to fix this together. Good luck

Hi I’ve been practicing what your teaching and I’m having some problems the faster I go the more the bag moves around do you have any tips on how to rectify this problem
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 6 жыл бұрын
It could be one of two reasons. Either your swivel needs an upgrade or you are hitting the bag at different spots. When you practice this trick you will need to try and hit the bag on the same spot consistently in order to keep it going straight. If you could send me a video of yourself hitting your speed bag I can give you some better advice. You can email me at info@shraimsboxing.com

I’ve subscribed. I’ve recently purchased a heavy bag with speed bag combo and never really did the speed bag. I watched several video demonstrations on learning, but your 3 videos are very detailed, down to earth, and easy to follow. I’ve been working with it for a week now and definitely am better and faster because of YOUR training methods Thanks for the lessons. I’ve also watched your jump rope vids and wonder about when a boxer goes from toe behind you to heel in front of you... and I figured that other move is a sorta resting move (when you move the rope side of each side of your body WITHOUT jumping-one side at a time). Can you possibly clarify? Thanks again and hope to see more tutorials Coach!
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Lex thank you for subscribing and glad to hear my videos are helping you learn and train. The toe/heel move is basically two jumps on one foot and then switching to the other foot for two more jumps. Once you get the hand of that and you can switch comfortably you will be able to make it look fancy by switching between the heel and the toe. I know it sounds complicated right now but once you mater the two jumps on each foot routine, you will find yourself doing it. The other trick is really for looks more than anything. It looks cool when you can swing the rope from side to side and then get back on it. If you jump rope often and keep trying to master those moves in both videos, You rock it for sure. Good luck and keep me posted with your progress. Would love to see videos of you hitting the speed bag. If you don't want to post them here, you can email them to me and I can help you improve.

I have bought the everlast platform which is only around $200. I’m finding that the bag does not move as fast as I expect. It’s not a large bag either. I’m assuming it is to do with the quality of the swivel bracket? I’m noticing the bit on yours that allows to bag to rotate, quite literally only spins around, where as mine almost moves with the bag too, creating a larger swing for the bag to travel?
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. The swivel has a lot to do with it. But your bag also needs some seasoning. Keep at until the leather stretches a little

How much air should the bag have? Should it be solid or a little softer?
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on your skills level and hand strength. The more air in the bag, the faster it will go. The less air, the slower but easier on the hands.

I'm 77 and just starting out. What about bag gloves? It seems that most videos show people not wearing bag gloves; but a few videos the instructor recommends both wrapping and wearing gloves to protect the wrists.
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 6 жыл бұрын
apostolic bible polyglot well, do you mean boxing gloves? You shouldn’t use boxing gloves on the speed bag because you won’t be able to move your fists freely. However there are padded gloves that you can wear instead of the hand wraps. Those would work. They are designed to replace the typical hand wraps and some people prefer them for the simplicity. As long as the padded gloves are tight enough to protect your hands but small enough to allow your fist to move freely, then thy should work.

I just tried this yeterday. Harder than it looks. It's like having 2 left hands to get the coordination. I have a cheap swivel & bag from Scheels & it don't bounce that easy. I know I need a new one but the good stuff costs money. 😭
@marty9464

While you can develop hand speed using this technique, it's not the same motion as punching and thus not the best method for developing useful punching speed. Hitting the bag straight on, with varying combinations of hands will develop much more useful punching speed the translates to the real world. Also, working hooks on the speed bag will "groove" your hooks, for more powerful in close hooks. Ali used this method to develop his punishing short inside hooks, though many don't know of this approach. Another way to look at it is if you have $5000 to make your car go faster, how much would you spend on making it go faster sideways.... probably none. So why develop speed that isn't the same motion you use to actually punch with!!! Since our training time is always limited, it's best to get the most applicable benefit out of it.
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 4 жыл бұрын
With all due respect you are mistaken. Hitting anything with your arms whether straight, sideways, backward etc will work your arm muscles regardless of the direction of your movement. Trying to catch a fast moving target with your hands improves the overall speed, eye hand coordination and timing of your hands. This is NOT just a hand speed drill. It also develops your sense of timing, rhythm and eye hand coordination.
@marty9464
@marty9464 4 жыл бұрын
@@AhmedShraim It takes just as much speed and hand eye coordination to hit a bag with straight punches and develops better real world skills. Try 100 jabs as fast as you can daily and see how much better you can deliver multiple jabs when in the ring or on the heavy bag. Same with working hooks... you do 100 + hooks as fast as you can daily and you'll find you can deliver lightening quick short hooks that'll catch an opponent off guard and wonder where it came from (video of Ali illustrates this quite nicely!) Of course you'd have to actually try either of these to see the benefits. Just throwing it out there for anyone who may want to increase their training efficacy ......
@AhmedShraim
@AhmedShraim 4 жыл бұрын
@@marty9464 Are you saying do one and NOT the other? And are you saying you don't need to do a variety of training to improve your skills, speed, strength...etc.??? If you do, then I disagree with you. I never discount any form of training to improve one's skills. It seems to me that you are limiting your skills development due to one video of Ali doing his thing! I highly recommend you do exactly what you suggested and practice the speed bag for ten minutes every day and then compare the results before you discredit a well established and proven method used by millions of fighters around the world.
@marty9464

@@AhmedShraim When I developed my speed bag routine back in the late 70's, I started with what you're teaching and then realized I could get more functional benefits by doing it the way I've described. I'm not discrediting the traditional methods at all, I just found a more productive way to develop functional speed that I preferred. If people are happy with the traditional method, they should keep it up. In all my endeavors I try to improve and in this endeavor, this is what helped me improve. I also used to spend closer to 20 minutes on the speed bag, working various combinations and found I improved my ability to use either hand with, speed, accuracy and responsiveness.
