How to replace fork seals and fork oil on your Honda VTX 1300. This will fix Leaky Fork Seal. And return your motorcycle to like new riding condition. This video shows how to remove and replace leaky motorycycle fork seals using basic, inexpensive tools. Once you see how it's done, the mystery is over. and you'll be able to do it yourself. This will work on many motorcycles. Any questions just ask.
15.5 oz of fork oil for each tube. 15wt. makes for a nice firm ride.

Got it done, thanks for your help! Very easy overall just a little time-consuming. Could not find that class 200 PVC, so I got the 1.5" grade 40 and cut it in half down the middle then put it on and taped them together which worked as an option. The old oil was so nasty, I wouldn't be surprised it was never serviced since 2007. Thanks again!

You just saved me $700 sir. I will say the pipe did not work for me, for some reason the 1 1/2 was too small? I have a 2004 VTX1300c. I used electrical tape wrapped around the shock to use as its own ramrod. I pulled a crappy Chinese made seal out where someone who owned the bike before me had replaced it and it never sealed properly. The 20 year old Honda one was still intact on the other side so I went and bought the OEM ones. Cost me $60, but I saved so much doing it myself I thought it was worth it. With this and the brakes I have saved about $1000 watching your videos.

Happy all went well. I know that schedule pipe you can't find it no more. It's a little too small. Sometimes I'll cut down the side of the pipe and then I could open it up a little bit to use that. Once again, very useful and easy to follow tutorial. The floor jack trick is awesome, I wish I knew that before I invested in a motorcycle jack. Otherwise, this tutorial complements and provides a complete picture of fork seal replacement. I live in Harley town, and I was told that they "don't work on one of those motorcycles". I was even referred to another shop in another town that works on Honda. Great ole youtube, it has almost everything.

Before you tear everything apart, sometimes it just a piece of dirt under the seal that causes it to leak. I had that happen on my last VTX. All that's needed is a small piece of plastic (I cut it out of an old plastic milk bottle or gallon jug) in the shape of a hook. Then stick it under the fork seal and pull it all the way around the seal to clean anything that's stuck in there. It worked for me twice and the seal quit leaking fluid. It's worth a try and can save you alot of time. Not saying it works for everyone, but it's worth a try.

I took my front wheel off and removed both as I did both of the seals. I like how you avoided that, easier and you had the other side to reset with. Did you take out the spring so that you could clean everything out? I did this without having to take that spring assembly out, however not that what you did was much extra work. I think that I will take that out next time. Thank you sir and keep up the great work. I saved about $600 for doing my own work on my seals. Well worth it!

Hey Rocco! Thanks for giving me the courage to do the seals on my vtx. Saved several hundred dollars. But geez I ran into problem after problem. Caliper bolt had been rounded off. Tried to drill it and use a screw extractor, only to have it break off in the bolt. Finished the right side. But had to split the pvc from home depot. Evidently there has been a slight change to the id of the pvc. Then i get to the left side and the head of the hex screw at the bottom of the fork is rounded out. Guess I will try to figure that one out tomorrow. Great video!!!

Thanks for such an easy to follow video. I am having trouble removing the tube from the lower fork. I have pulled and rotated and pulled and rotated and it’s not budging at all. Also, whenever I pull up the upper tube binds binds to where I have to hit it at the top with rubber mallet to unstick it. Going at it for over an hour with no noticeable movement. All bolts removed, reviewed video multiple time to make sure didn’t miss anything. At an impasse, any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Tried to rotate it hit it rotated hit it rotated hit it and it should go. Are usually use a red bucket and I'll just hit it to the floor and then turn and slam it up. usually that's what works. Give yourself a break and come back to it. Spray a little penetrating oil and let it sit and then try it again. Let us know how it works out. I can get frustrated be patient happened to me once that I remember how they came.

Thank for such a well done video on this work. I watched a different video on doing the seals on my Valkyrie and it took me two days ! Your video made the job so much easier to do...done in a couple of hours. I have one question. I can just get the threads started on the drain plug (holding the fork in my hands, not installed on the bike yet). The piston the screw goes into just spins, I can't tighten it. Is this normal? When will it stay so I can tighten the drain screw? PS...I didn't have thread sealer so I used teflon tape, maybe that was a bad idea?
@TwoWheelRocco

Hello Great video, very instructive. I also have a Honda VTX1300C and have not found the service manual to determine the original measurement for the front fork springs. I find that for the VTX1300S, these springs are 19.6", but I don't think they are the same for my VTX1300C. There are differences between these two versions. What do you think? Do you know the front fork spring length for the VTX1300C?
