Thanks for the quick response and encouraging words. I located one this morning but had an old hen between us. I was trumping her calls and both began moving to me. Then, I heard multiple hens on far side of them. That was the end! I was in good position against some trees and looking down at the path between me and a creek that the birds would have had to take. Going back tomorrow to chase one we roosted this afternoon. I agree with you on the moving...run and gun. Waiting on them like deer is boring..especially after months of deer hunting. These today were on actively hunted adjacent property so couldn't do much. Looking forward to next videos! Thx for investing in your subscribers.

+431cruiser As the season progresses those gobblers could become more vulnerable. That is also true as the day progresses. A gobbler with lots of hens will get lonelier later in the season and day because of the hen's nesting effort. Thanks again.

Didn't notice age of vid, but great tips and encouragement. You seem like one who would be like hunting with one of my friends. I started turkey hunt late in life because I was already deer hunting a lot and needed to stay married. I have been so close so many times, or maybe I was just doing as you said and talking to the wrong ones as they would respond but never come to me. I can do all the calls you did, and pretty good even with mouth, but in ten years have not closed the deal. Maybe I need to find the right turkey at the right time of year and stop wasting time on the wrong ones. Thanks again for one of the most sincere vids I have seen. Feel like I just listened to a hunting buddy.

+431cruiser I am flattered by your compliments. I enjoyed doing all my videos and really love hearing from folks about them. Stay after them birds and change things up to keep it interesting -- try some new land, or a different time of day, or a new strategy. If you are parking yourself in a spot like a deer hunt then move. I love to walk and call. Doing that has helped me find the "right" bird many times. I use multiple tacics throughout turkey season. When I know where they want to be I sit and wait while using decoys and some calling to get their attention. I also walk and call.when I have access to enough land. Normally that is not a problem because I hunt public land. Sometimes I use a canoe or a boat. Sometimes I go to a brand new spot just because I want a change of scenery. It all woks and makes it more fun. Do not get in a rut. You can go from zero to hero in seconds. Above all else make it fun and keep believing - you will succeed- believe me. I wish you the best. Thanks again! Monte

It is interesting to me that you would ask. Turkey vests were hot to me so I started looking for an alternative shortly after I started turkey hunting. I opted for a large fanny pack with lots of compartments. I wear it in the front and everything is right where I need it. At my waist where I can easily see and get what I need.I also use a special cushion that I made. It works great for sitting against a tree. Thanks for asking.

Well, didn't mean to take over comment section, but following up on my comment yesterday about the one roosted last night. Had a good hunt this morning on the one we roosted late yesterday. Not successful in terms of killing, but exciting and educational just as every opportunity in the woods should be. He pitched down 40 yards in front of me and my partner, but behind brush. He spent 30 minutes moving from there to our left and finally into partial opening where we could see him strut and gobble. Too much brush and stray trees to get a shot. As he worked directly to our left, my buddy's side, he couldn't decide if he wanted to go to our decoys or walk past us. We weren't hidden well on that left end as he walked to ten and then nine o'clock position. During this time, he was getting within range and, as buddy and I each wanted the other to shoot, he caught us moving as the length of the blind ran out! It was a great hunt...all the adrenaline, the bird dance, longtime buddy and I both had a bead on him but wanted the other to shoot, and now we can hunt him again later. Win-win. In retrospect and in studying the hunt, we learned that had we picked a tree ten yards away, the lay of the land there would have put us slightly uphill and with a better vantage point. Of course, the gobbler probably would have pitched down somewhere else then!! But that is hunting. My first kill is on the horizon, unless a buddy is with me. In that case, I want him to take the shot.

+431cruiser With the little bit of communication we have done I think I have figured that we have much in common when it comes to attitude. First of all, you had a great hunt that you sincerely appreciated even though you did not fill a tag. I have said many times that on my favorite turkey hunts the turkey did not die. That goes for numerous hunts, Also, you seem unselfish and that is apparent because you wanted your friend to get the bird. You are going to be a great turkey hunter. I love it because it is more sociable than deer hunting. You and your friend got to experience the same hunt together. That is one of the things that makes turkey hunting so special to me.You are right you have much to look forward to! Thanks for the comment. Monte

Sam, you can find them by googling woodhaven custom calls, and u can order direct from them. I think the call is called "Toxic Orange", it used to be part of the Sadler Mcgraw series. @cshomeister-I have limited experience with fall turkeys because we do not have a fall season in my state. I have hunted in a neighboring state and had some success. Every video I do is based on personal experience and I will continue to do them that way. Because of that I probably will not do a fall turkey vid. I am currently producing a deer video that will enable a hunter to walk onto new ground and confidently pick a stand that is likely to produce results. Thanks for the interest.

Thanks for the video. I can tell you why you put your hands over your mouth :) Same reason you do at a football stadium, and same reason cheerleaders use horns. It's an a way to better project sound! Rob, thanks for the compliment. Whenever I hear from someone who is trying to get their first bird, like yourself, I want to help if I can. One thing I believe is that if you are persistent you will be successful. Learning how to use a mouth call will no doubt be helpful, but getting out there as often as possible and learning from experience will really empower you.A whole lot of turkey hunting is finding the right bird at the right time ( or wrong time for him). When I started out I spent entirely too much time on birds that would answer, but not come in. Sure, it was fun talking to him, but I wanted to put a tag on one. Nowadays, I find it more helpful to cover more ground and try to engage as many birds as possible. I will make exception when I am pretty sure about where they may end up.In that case I can wait all day if needed. Please read the articles on this blog I believe they will help. how2hunt.com/turkey-hunting-secret/ Get after em! Monte

Thanks, I really appreciate any help. I am defiantly learning each year and I have four days off this season which is only a week long. I will be out all day long on my days off. The other days, I will be able to make the evening hunt. More of a deer hunter, I too have a buddy that got me into the Turkey world. Just a week ago, I finally got some sound out my mouth call and now I got the yelps, clucks and cutting down but the purrs, it’s going to take a bit but I have about four weeks to get that down. How many years did it take you to call like that?
