M1 Garands were the standard service rifle of the U.S. military from 1936 to beyond 1957, their last year of production. During that time, the rifle underwent 298 changes to its parts. Each part was coded with a specific drawing number that reflected each change. This video will show you those parts changes and help you identify original vs. changed or even faked reproduction parts to authenticate an original M1 Garand.

Excellent video on the M1. I have the book and it is THE source for information on this rifle. Thank you for preparing and posting this video.

Are the CMP garands pretty authentic I know the CMP mixs and matches parts but are the parts actually from the time period or are they after market/fake parts.

As usual the information has missed the mark. Gov websites can tell you the year of production and the year of issuance for the M1(if you put in a little effort). This is the serial number of my M1 I carried in Viet Nam, 7472606. After 55 years a Marine will never forget the serial number on his weapon.

I believe that I have an all original 1943 that still has the plug in the front sight. I still need to have it authenticated.

@ superbird6bbl , Did you ever have your M1 Garand authenticated for possibly being original? What make is it? And even if it's found to have been repaired at some point in it's journey, it will always be a valuable and much sought after part of American military history. I am the proud owner of an October 1943 Springfield Armory M1 Garand, with a 1953 SA barrel , all parts are SA manufactured. Wouldn't it be great if these old M-1's could only speak of their war stories? Good luck with your M-1.

Just a fun fact if you have a serial number that starts with 7 million then you know it's a new-made newly-produced rifle not an authentic wartime rifle

most upgrades have a defective part behind them so making a m1 garand parts correct is a mistake.

People do that to make it more like it would have been as issued during WWII. They aren't using them as shooters, they are sitting in a case on their mantle.

@@TrashPanda5150 as issued would be incorrect for no other reason than they were all taken apart exept a few and scattered in baskets and rebuilt to spec not using original parts so actually the mixed part rifles are as issued. but better if rebarreled because the primers in the bullets were corrosive. and there is such a thing as a D barrel. cut with a four prong tool 1 thousanth at a time to 310 thousandths a perfect cylinder. ment to be m1c sniper barrel made around april of 1945. also pm grands just came back from acrossed seas no one even knew they existed. theres a lots left out . from money grubbers its whatever there needs are at the time it seams to me. as carried would be the ones id be after

That's not accurate. The vast majority of revisions applied to M1 Rifle components were for for the sake of improving the part (not replacing defects) or more often for improving manufacturing efficiencies. The contemporary obsession with "correcting" perfectly functional rifles is not inherently risky unless you're careless or incapable of identifying unserviceable parts.
@alonzahanks1182
@alonzahanks1182 3 жыл бұрын
@@stevenodell4323 Wrong for instance The rifle being designed for the 276 Roberts and being changed to 30 06 caused many problems with gas system bolts exploding Operating rods being bent even receiver cracking recoil springs not holding up gas operation in extreme cold Aperature sights not holding settings and this went on from 1932- 1942 to pearl harbor and after. and many came after Americans actually fielded them in 1943. Some parts from some armorers not being up to interchange abuility or just plain heat and tempering being off. and some parts just being better A trophy rifle being best of all parts since they made old navy pistols That would be more better with army cylinders and so on. The M1C Never passing military spec for putting 5 shots in 2 inch group only a handfull of rifles seeing actual duty. but collectors fabricating 10s of thousands of them Most sniper rifles were in fact 03A1s and regular M1 Garands.with iron sights and actual M1Ds saw more service. And also army snipers using Pachmayr Low swing mounts That I actually Saw a bunch of at Herlong army depot and ones i saw collectors remove from army rifles because collector mad men not admitting they exist . but the notes of Commanders are in US Marine Corps Scout Sniper . World War 2 and Korea book And most M1Cs having had holes on M1C being filled in after D DAY by Springfield Armory as Noted in The M1 Garand World War 2 By Scot Duff Also The D barrels Ment for M1Cs M1Ds And D barrels showing up on junior Devil Dogs Shooting Team Guns and Winning with 30 06 s against 762 nato guns is proof The D Barrels Rule CMP ' Matches . Those D Barrels Being perfect cylinders probably making the most accurate rifles on the planet. Never having that much work and money being put in any barrel ever!!!!!!!! If you pull open the Slide and latch bolt open Look right under upper grip clip and see a big D and check date being March to about july or close 1945 . Hand Fitted Boyds Stock you can barely slide off receiver. You Have A Very Special Match Target Trophy Rifle Built by Marine Corps Armorer. DO NOT CHANGE ANY PARTS ON THAT RIFLE. Its Basicly A Brand New M1 Garand With every Modern Trick Done To It. A Fair Price For that Rifle Being $10,000 Dollars Need I SAY MORE

@@alonzahanks1182 No, sir, you need to say less. Your statement takes issue with the assertion "making M1 Garands parts correct is a mistake". Your essay rambles down a list of observations that have nothing to do with that idea.
