This is perfect. I feel like I don't know how to review books properly so I never post them. Like I'm uncomfortable doing them. •take notes while reading (flag pages) •makeup look special for the book/character •watch MORE book reviews 1. spoiler-free reviews (less specific, general synopsis - writing, characters, plot, themes, explain feelings about it) 2. spoiler-filled reviews (free for all, gush or rant) 3. professional reviews (be honest, be analytical) hehehehe sorry. I took notes in this comment to keep for later. :) LOVE this video Emma! THANK YOU!

Haha aw I love your notes!! That made my day XD I know how you feel! It's like "I'm not a professional reviewer, when I talk about books I basically just Fangirl and so on" but remember that it is okay! Everyone's reviewing style is totally different and you don't have to conform to any type of review to write them :)

Thank you so so so much for this help! I want to start reviewing books soon but I have a hard time taking notes while reading and this is a lot of help! On booktube we need more constructive criticism reviews on KZfaq - especially books that were terrible by other KZfaqrs. This is great because I just decided to start posting reviews on my channel. Your point on negative reviews is really helpful because two of the reviews I've done I didn't like the books but I still found very positive things on them. I think it's important to make a review your 100% honest opinion and also make a big emphasis on some likable elements because like you said, it could end up having a different affect on someone else who reads it. Also, if I know the book is going to be reviewed, I try to set a time when the book will be read (like I wouldn't read the book during an exam week, but instead holiday break) and have all my sticky notes, writing utensils, and a notebook on hand. I feel like it gets way easier with time and practice though.

Thanks for all the tips. When I write a negative review, I try to explain as clearly as possible without spoilers what exactly made me dislike it. Then other people can decide for themselves whether that is something that bothers them, like a certain writing style, or they don't have an issue with it. I'm actually a bit surprised that people don't often do reviews. It's the reviews that make me want to start a channel, it's all the other stuff that I'm worried about.:P

Hey Emma I just wanted to tell you your awesome and thanks for making your videos awesome too, especially your booktube 101! I recently decided to start for own channel, and with your videos I think I might have a chance of lasting for more then one day lol. You've probably already answered this before, but what would you say is the most important thing for someone starting out their very first channel ever? Haha and do you have any tips for over coming being nervous in front of the camera?! Well thanks, and keep up the awesome videos!!!

awh thank you so much!!! welcome to the community!!!! my best tip is to KEEP TRYING. keep working on your editing, keep working on refining your reviews, keep trying new videos ideas. just don't stop and the rest will come easy :) the BEST thing i can offer to you about being comfortable in front of a camera is that in the first few months of booktube, most likely, you won't have anyone really watching your channel. while that can be kind of discouraging, i think it's GREAAAT! you don't have to worry about impressing anyone, you don't have to worry about people not liking your content. for those first few months, its about you and your books. i think it takes some pressure off when you realize it's literally just you and your camera :) by the time you start gaining more viewers, you'll have more confidence i promise :) hope those help!!!

It sucks that reviews are the least watched, since I want them to be the main thing in my future channel. To me, people like Chris Stuckmann are good inspiration, even if he reviews movies instead of books. I lik the nuance, honest critcism and focus on more than just the story, but also the personal touch. That's what I prefer in a review; a mixture of honest criticism that's as objective as possible and the personal experience of the reviewer.

First of all, amazing tips! Gonna go put these into practice? I do try to take notes whilst reading but oftentimes I don't know what notes to take, like what to look out for? Do you have general tips on what to look out for when taking notes? Also, gotta go see a princess-dressed Emma now, oh my God. :D

Being somewhat new to booktube I don't have a lot of tips, but I will reiterate the be you, do you. Insulting or attacking a person for a book they read is so far from right and shows a lack of integrity that doesn't warrant respect. Thank you for your tips

I looove this video. What do you think the ratio should be between book reviews and tags on a booktubing channel? Also, I am probably getting an Ipad for christmas (I asked for one so i could edit videos with imovie) do you think thats enough? Thxxxxx for this great video

How else can you spice up a book review and make it more fun? And how long should book review videos be? And what other types of videos should someone new to Booktube do?

I just love this series of videos so much! :D I just have a question about reviews! Do you think a booktuber should review only new books or it is okay to review books that have been published even some years ago?
@emmmabooks
@emmmabooks 8 жыл бұрын
it's TOTALLY okay to review older books! if anything, older and more popular books get more views because everyone has read them :)) x

What do you think of spoilery discussion reviews, specifically for those who have read the book(s)?
@emmmabooks

+TimeAndChance i mean i do them all the time haha i think they're great! i just don't have a lot of tips on them because i feel that each style of a spoilerly discussion should be individual to the booktuber
