It always comes down to foundations. If your rhythm isn't there, your connection can't be there. If your flat work isn't good, your jumping won't be good. if your groundwork is poor, your work under saddle won't be what it could be. If you're struggling, try backing up a few steps. Or take it right back to the beginning--it will help build confidence in you and your horse, and improve your communication and trust! Horses are so generous and intuitive, the more you put into them the more they give you. Such incredible creatures :)

But how many of us get frustrated with needs to be more through, make more supple, engage engage, get it more on the outside rein...... to feel absolutely pathetic and demotivated because these words sound good, we think we know what they mean, we think we have it when clearly we dont

Why am I only just finding this now?? I went to an area festival this weekend and the judges were brutal (it was fair though and we needed it) We have only been competing for just under a year and have been getting the SAME comments on every sheet we have back ‘not connected’ ‘not through’ ‘needs to work over the back’ and I was trying EVERYTHING that I knew and still getting the same results!! Can’t tell you how helpful your videos are!! Got a competition again tomorrow and going to see if the changes I’ve made after watching these videos makes a difference 🙏 I have been putting off stepping up to elementary because we haven’t been getting the results 😂

I have a Gtand Prix horse that I trained myself from the beginning. My horse is only turning 9 in a few days. I always get the comment "lacks throughness". My horse makes no mistakes. We ride a perfect test and still we got a 60%. I loosened the chain and changed for a wider snaffle and then have been concentrating on my connection. In a short time, I've ridden much better with the horse looking like a different horse.

Great to hear someone's story and is makes the struggles more real and relatable. Interestingly my trainer asked me to try travers on a circle to help with my mares attention and connection-it worked really well. I just needed guidance as a rider bc my mare had never done it before. It wasn't a super steep angle but it was enough to say "hey I need you to be supple and straight when I ask". I would recommend trying it with your trainer even if you don't think you are training at medium level yet (obviously depends on the horse but I surprised myself)

I would love a breakdown of how this was achieved. It sounds exactly like my horse now we are moving up the levels to more difficult movements. I understand the basics of the training scale, but I would love to know the steps taken and exercises involved to help this horse and rider combination.

The audio is much better in this video! Earlier your voice kept crackling horribly if you got even slightly louder. Here it seems you can still keep your own voice without being butchered by the microphone (still slight crackles), so thanks for the audio fixes!

Hi Sandra, The hunches in is more about the suppleness effects of the movement, and less about where they are pointing. So the idea is it helps with connection, stops them blocking so you have more influence x

I want to thank you I have confidence win I ride my 16 2 hand horse and I'm ride her and I'm doing so good and she dose and I just want to ride her and have on the trail horse and I don't show any more but she me her are doing and I toke a fall off but I'm ride ing her and I have confidence win and your video help me to have confidence win my horse thank YOU Nannette

Again this highlights a big problem that we have. Do we really understand what those scales are. I know I think my boy is supple but suddenly told he isn't. Is this something you could do like a dully broken down denim of what they really mean. What is through, what does it feel like, when do you know u have it.
