Do you have what it takes to make your dreams a reality? Do you have the potential to become a great player?
For most, the answer is yes. Yes, you likely do have the potential to rise up to your personal goals and become a much better player. But the vast majority of ambitious players like yourself, make terrible mistakes in their approach to their skill development, which causes them to improve at a slower rate, hit skill plateaus and eventually lose motivation.
But by exposing this approach, and adopting a more effective mindset, you will begin to develop your skills much faster and much farther than you could before...
In this video, we look at the approaches to learning that often define our success or failure, the inspiring research behind it, and a new mindset that you can use to improve your skills much faster!

When starting a game focus first on getting the muscle memory in. After you get that figure out why you keep dying or losing the game. Figure out what YOU can do to stop it from happening the next time. This goes along with growth mindset because if you learn more from getting a question wrong. You will remember the things you did wrong and know how to fix it. Just something to think about.

So in most games I considered myself above average but always right behind the great or god like player feeling like I could never catch up to them and achieve mastery but that was because my childhood influences caused me to have a fixed mindset and I began feeling like those players naturally had that skill and no matter how hard I tried I wouldn't be able to catch up be this man just told me different...God Tier here I come.

I read one of carol dweck’s books on mindset to help me get more out of school, as I am above grade level. The book was very detailed and provided good examples to help younger people like me to understand it. I recommend it not just for gaming but if you are a “fixed mindset” person and want to become a “growth mindset” person. It really helps if you are stuck thinking you cant do something, or think you can do something but you have that voice in the back of your head saying “no you can’t” or “you’re not good enough”. I hope you buy this book as it helped me a lot. (Written by a grade 8 student). Edit: If you read this book and go from fixed to growth I recommend giving it to any friends that you think might have a fixed mindset. It can be very frustrating to go from fixed to growth, and start putting tons of effort into something, in hope of improving, but then other people do call you a tryhard, and even though it doesn’t sound that bad it could be soul-crushing if you devote tons of time into something and then be knocked down by your own FRIENDS sometimes, and could be very unmotivating, and pressure you to give up.

this is actually really cool. personally i dont even know if i'm to one side or the other and find myself falling into both categories (sounds contradictory but im not sure how to actually phrase it). In hindsight, I have noticed that when i tend towards the growth mindset I have often found myself suddenly able to play a certain character etc significantly better than before; whereas, when i'm being more fixed the only improvements i see are small and generally more muscle-memory based than anything. I also find when i'm being more fixed i'm more likely to lose rank and as i start to tilt and play even worse after a failure.

This subject always makes me emotional as somebody who was unfortunately raised into a fixed mindset. I am aware of the damage that has been done, but despite this, that mindset ironically makes me doubt if I can ever reverse it. Every game I have ever played where I could watch other players play around me, I have noticed that I always progress, improved, and grew at a slower rate to everyone else around me. That feeling of being "slow" . . . made me feel broken, in the bad way that I don't know if I can ever completely fix this . . . I do know that in one game in particular, however, I had enough of a headstart to overcome this, to the point where I started looking for challenges and even managed to win a convention tournament, just for sheer passion for the game itself. That game is Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe). Yes, I know, Mario Kart isn't "competitive," blah blah, but could you antis kindly shove it and let me have this? There's even a MK8D speedrunning community which I have recently joined, and while speedrunning is, as you can imagine, a completely foreign world for a person like me, it's just another excuse for me to play my favorite game of all time even more, and so I look forward to fully embracing it . . . though, presently, I'm currently working on more relatively casual single-player experiences like Octopath Traveler.

I'm somebody who's very prone to raging and getting upset. I sometimes get really disapointed im myself and feel like I should be performing much better than I'm doing at that time. I get so frustrated that I just want to quit, just so that I start over again the next day, after I calmed down. It feels like I'm stuck at my level and stand in my own way to improve. This video has helped me a lot, since I'm somebody who had a fixed mindset their whole life, so trying to change it in a single day is very challenging, but I'm trying my best. Bottom line is, thank you for making this video, even though it's kind of old and you probably won't see this comment, I wanted to voice my apreciation.
