As someone who's struggles to listen am very grateful for this video. My biggest issue for me is that I don't get to consume what someone is saying to me I tend to daydream while they talking, sometimes I interrupt them.

I think everyone should watch this video. In modern society most of people already lost their ability to listen. Interrupting is very rude and impolite,and I'm really really hate it. They need to break this horrible habit.

00:37 Listening is a powerful tool in the workplace 01:14 Effective listening skills can help create a safe and productive environment. 01:51 Stay focused and avoid interrupting during conversations 02:28 People interrupt conversations because their minds are underutilized when listening. 03:05 Interrupting others in a conversation can be avoided by keeping your mouth closed and making notes. 03:42 To avoid interrupting others, write down your ideas and focus on listening more than talking. 04:19 Effective communication requires setting aside judgment and showing interest 04:55 Active listening involves showing interest and engaging with the speaker.

This is all fine except for one problem. I have always taken a lot of pride in my ability to be congenial and not interrupt people. The frustrating part is when someone ELSE is always interrupting. What do you do with them? It's great not to interrupt but that leaves you in a quandry. You end up being around total conversation hogs who have absolutely NO interest in including you in it. Or, you are in a group and they are all talking over each other and Mr. Congenial ends up being like a bump on a log all night just because I am trying not to be rude and interrupt anyone. Or, I wait patiently for several minutes while someone else is talking and FINALLY feel like I can say something and then the other person interrupts, of course, lol. It's all well and good to say don't interrupt but it seems to me a just as important people skill is to make sure others are included in the conversation. My observation is that very few people do that.

Focus on the speaker: Give full attention, maintain eye contact, and minimize distractions. Avoid interruptions: Let the speaker finish before responding. Stay non-judgmental: Maintain neutral body language to avoid seeming critical. Show interest: Use verbal and non-verbal cues to convey curiosity and empathy.

I'm sorry but in my personal opinion other than the third rule, these all seem so mundane and obvious, closing your mouth when listening??? and making random expressions of acknowledgement, saying "yes", "really" or "uh huh", pretending to give the impression that you are engaged, this is shit I see so many fake bitches implement and it's all useless unless you are genuinely interested. How's about being honest to the point of telling someone that you are not engaged? It seems savage but Iv'e witnessed some people literally just talk because they feel like they are socially inclined to fill the silence with vague unimportant filler, if it's these kind of people your confronted with stop them, tell em to save their breath and ask why they feel the need to talk at all?
@Alphacentauri819
@Alphacentauri819 2 жыл бұрын
Are you on the spectrum? It seems you have a very narrow view of communicating and its function. There are different reasons why different people communicate. Yours isn’t the “right” way, nor is it the wrong way. However, to be pejorative and judge the ways others communicate, misses a whole realm of opportunity to learn. Peoples wiring is different, not bad or good, just different. People want to be heard, understood and accepted. For some, who haven’t been heard or have been chronically invalidated, they sometimes go on and on. Or, some who go on and on, are external processors, and process by saying things out loud. Yet others, struggle with anxiety and their talking on and on can be a result of that. Sure, you can tell them you’re not interested, or to stop…but to zoom out, be curious, give them space (and not be self centered), can sometimes be powerful. It’s fair to be kind and direct (not rude and narcissistic) and state your needs and boundaries regarding communication…but that also requires being mindful of others. There are people who only take themselves into consideration. There are people who only take others into consideration. There are people who take themselves AND others equally into consideration…and those people are good communicators, and usually have high emotional intelligence.
