we used to do this as a saxophone section in college to unify time feel, esp on solis, but on other stuff too.

Wow, Bob! This is so true! If you have the right timing in your fingers, then you can almost play anything. Or you can at least move a lot more «out» from the tonallity in many situations. This was sooo inspiring! Thanks 🎉

Yes! I first learned this from you a while back…then saw MB write notes to himself on this in his practicing notes that was published not too long ago. One application for me, is I have trouble with fast lines. So, I slow them down (bpm = 60) and sometimes find this kind of percussive practice is very helpful in assisting me to straighten things out and play even and rhythmic. After all, the rhythm is in the fingers!! 😎

sure. but try playing them descending, so you're starting with all fingers resting on the keys/pearls. then you're pushing each key down, as opposed to raising fingers up (to which there is no definitive stop point, which leads to "flying fingers")

Stick control book( with a metronome)is great for this.. just my two cents
