Yes, and no. Things usually needs some adjustment or modifications during the install, which leads to a bunch of touchups after. You cant really win either way. I pre-painted a bunch of trim and casing thinking I'd just touch up the nail holes after. By the time it was installed, caulked, and nail holes filled, there was enough that it had to be painted completely anyway. Waste of time and paint to do it beforehand.

The entire house at 0:08 is a bit of a mixed bag... Gingham chair contrasting with the trellis rug, the mahogany console table right next to the shiplap and industrial handrail, etc. Blame HGTV and DIY for creating the homeowner that thinks they're an interior designer. But at the end of the day, who cares...if they're happy with it, that's their business. They have to live with it.

@RossMalagarie
@RossMalagarie 4 жыл бұрын
The only way something becomes "traditional" is contractors copy a style/look and do it to 95% of homes they build. I would say these home owners just put their style in the design of the finish of their home. Well that is the best way to say they have crappy taste, I mean they made it custom. ;) I'm just clowning about the crappy taste commit. If you pay hundred's of thousands of dollars to own a home for 10-60yrs then yeah maybe make it look the way you want. Just realize your custom distinct look may make it harder to sell or go down in potential value.

@@RossMalagarie People worry too much about home value. Make the house your own. 5-10% sale price doesn't work out to be that much on the overall cost of ownership. After all, some people are dumb enough to pay an agent 7% to sell their house.

@@climberjb We have national and state adopted codes, but enforcement comes down to the local county/city/town/village/etc level. This often leads to massive difference in enforcement, even from one city to the next. In general, the bigger the city the more enforcement there is. The more rural areas have far less, often just having the fire marshal checks for any obvious dangers.
