I was installing doors years ago and reached underneath to lift the jamb when something grabbed my fingers. As I jumped back and watched, here come two cat’s paws from under the door. Played with her for 10-15 minutes. Became good friends during the job and I’m allergic to cats. Sofia Marie Freeze was her name.

Mint. That’s almost exactly how I do my cavity sliders too. Love the little trick using the top Of the jamb as a spacer on the way down though. definitely trying that next time

SBC has come full circle (for me)! As a new homeowner 2+ years (3?) ago I stumbled upon your video on your first ceiling hatch stairs as I was looking for some tip for solving mine... which wasn’t what I needed whatsoever! But I remember thinking the video was awesome still. Got recommended by KZfaq about your video on tips for deck building (another issue I was investigating at the time) and subscribed ever since. I did my apprenticeship as a Fitter turner in a Aluminum extrusion plant. Normally window and door shops don't use standard box section profiles but they may have something that could serve as a straightedge. Box section or RHS is the best to use. The amount that came of the press wrong and had to be scrapped was crazy. Luckily they had their own foundry so the could remelt it and cast new billets.

CS for Doors are far and away the best Cavs in NZ. Just did 2 of them, one was a stunning aluminum one they powder coated. I saw some of their other technology recently and it blew me away. Not the cheapest though!

Just today I've re-hung a pocket door whose track was seriously tweaked. Your hardware looks much nicer than the typical Johnson or Lawrence hardware here in the US. If only the new before me had bothered to use a laser or even just a straightedge!

Nice. Wish we had such high quality pocket doors here in the US. I like the horizontal blocking. Keeps it much more stable so the drywall doesn't flex.

I just put in my 910mm CS Door in with double Softstop, open and close. Mine came with a little red tube to set the position of the softstop activator that you slid into the channel. When you close the door it closes just shy of the jam and doesn't hit it. I think you need to back of the actuator a smidge. Cheers.

Awesome video, Something you may or may not know is the slot at the end of the track (jamb end) is wider so you can install the pocket without the door and wheels/ also maintenance. Sometimes it has to be done this way due to needing the pockets before gib as there is a hold up on the doors. Thought I would share Keep up the vids SBC

My boss loves to put these in every house we build. 🤨 Weather it’s an office/study door or an en-suite. I wouldn’t mind but he buys the best priced pocket door on offer at the time. Every type... Henderson, eclipse, etc is different. So I can’t finish the timber stud until the pocket hole arrives on site. Life of a carpenter in Britain. Eh? Brilliant 🤦🏼‍♂️

Best door ever for small areas. Saves on door opening space. Be careful to use very short screws on the gyproc as nothing worse than screw slide marks on the door !!!##@!

The previous owners installed a toilet roll holder on the cavity door wall. Result: Two big gouges in the side of the cavity door from the screws!

The battens that hide the mechanism at the top of our pocket sliders are much deeper than yours and the genius who installed them not only screwed them in, correctly, but put diagonal nails at the bottom corners.

Hi scott ,cavity slider insulation,with the bottom plate of framing in position draw a line on to floor from on side to the other this gives the set mark for bottom track for cavity slider. #building dreams

I learned something after my 4th cavity slider on a job once... You know the first attempt at the "soft close" that just clicks? It's supposed to happen. Ya put the little alloy bit right in the middle frst, . Then let it click to prime it. THEN the soft close works 😁

We have OX Tools here in the UK since about 2012.

The same but different. As so often seems the case NZ has very similar to OZ only better. Our cavity slider kits are way more basic with less features. I have never had one that comes with the door in it pre hung and latch cut out. Also I have never seen a soft close but they may be out there in Melbourne or the like. We even have to supply our own jamb as it is not part of the kit. And your own door of choice. This begs the question if you are doing a house with some form of panel door prevalent can you get your kits with different doors other than the cheap flush ply.

I have a cavity slider in an older home that I'd like to paint. ? I really don't feel like stripping off the framing to get the door out to paint (they put putty in the screw holes). It looks like you installed the door to be painted later? Is it painted in situ or do you take it out again? Seems like a pain.

Dude your cavity sliders are so much better than the trash I'm being supplied in Aus... For example they expect us to fix the entire frame to the ground using a small block of mdf that is pinned to the bottom of the frame.. when asked what they expect us to do in a wet area they admitted "I don't think we thought about that"... yeaaaaaaa.

My foreman once told me "never buy a straight edge, wait for your window manufacture to fuck up (they always do) then you ask them to bring you a straight edge when they come out to fix their mistake" to this day I've never paid for a straight edge and I've never not had multiple straight edges

We just use a laser card so there is less up and down. The same way when we make acoustical ceilings.

@@getberget laser cards just this piece of plastic that's usually the color that the laser (it lets the laser be more visible) and kind of transparent. It has inch markings and a magnet embedded into the plastic so it can stick upside down and level the ceiling. the laser is always set below the ceiling height because you can't set a whole ceiling from a laser at ceiling height because it will hit the material. It also has a hole so that you can have a string through it so that you can wear it around your neck when you're doing ceilings.

I don’t know if anyone will be able to answer this, but I could really use some help. I’m replacing a few pocket doors in my house. Doors are original, came with house in the 70’s. The doors have rollers that hang on a track above. I didn’t have to open the wall thankfully. Just pulled the surrounding trim down, and it wiggled out. I bought doors that while different style, they are the exact same dimensions. Is it possible that the pocket opening has shrunk, width wise? I don’t get it. I got the new door on the track, everything looks good, but it scrapes the sides badly when sliding it back into the pocket. I have to physically pull one side of the wall outward so it doesn’t rub so badly. The first door I did, same thing happened but not to this extent. I was able to use the plastic “guides” at the bottom to kind of position it in a more favorable place. I don’t know what to do. Is there a way to widen the gap a little without redoing things? Any tricks of the trade? Is it possible the door is actually a little wider than the previous one? The original was super light, fake wood with no designs whatsoever. I put in a white 6 panel solid core door. All dimensions, I thought, are the same. Do those “6 panels” protrude outward at all? Pretty sure they’re inward but maybe I’m wrong. I read you can hang any door as a pocket door as long as the dimensions are equal. Any help is very much appreciated! TIA

Not necessarily related to this video in particular. I've seen you lay down some stuff on the ground generally before you start a new job, especially when it's on the carpet. What is that product called, it looked like it had a sticky back? Got Reno job where the carpet isn't coming out and there's going to be quite a bit of dust/debris that I'm trying to prevent going into the carpet.
