Those slots next to the front posts are for the string to pass behind so they can hold the cocking string tight to the stock. You can de-cock with the crank, hold the crank and put tension on it, flip the switch on the detent so that the crank turns freely backward but keep ahold of the crank and rotate it the opposite way until the cocking strings are slack then disengage the cocking claw that goes over the string.

+Donald Alldredge I'm sure you can decock with the crank but the instructions say not to.

Yep there a pain I ended up with a pair of needle noise and a good quick pull out they came, in my humble opinion a over complicated for just a plug

I was considering a crank but listening to all that clicking, I think I’ll keep manually pulling it.

I don't understand why everybody says you can't decock the crossbow with it if you can talk the crossbow with it you should be able to decock it

My understanding is if it were to slip it can be dangerous. Also I've been told when the limbs are stretched it is better to shot than decock.

I can't really see it any different than the TenPoint or a raven crossbow that would be like taking it all the way up and then deciding not to Cock it all you do is reverse the process and let it back down there's no way it could hurt the crossbow unless you like you say you slept with it

Do u know if the Allen after market crank will work on the Barnett jackal that one and one other Barnett doesn't make a Crack for it

Doesn't really work. I have a recruit terrain, which the box says this crank is compatible for. But the spool/ handle portion will not thread together. Its almost like the people at barnett forgot to machine threads into it or something

Hi, I recently purchased a Barnett Recruit, and the draw weight is around 170 lbs. I've tried rope cocking it and I've found it to be a lot easier to manually cock it with my hands. I have to use rags when cocking with my hands, or I'll end up cutting my hands. I was wondering what kind of crank you bought for your crossbow, I'd hate to pinch a vein. Loved the video, I just need to find the right crank.

I noticed a difference in bolt impact when shooting with a cocking rope vs manually cocking with my hands. I would consistently hit to the left if I used my hands.

It's really unfortunate that yours is the only video on this I can find, because I can't see JACK on what you are doing. A few close ups would really help! Plus the whole time you were cocking it, all I could was your arm.

This one had the gear but no cover. I think it's part of the reason my father in law went back to rope cocking his bow.

I normally try. I didn't think it was all that hard until I started to do it myself.

@@BuckPole I received the crank cocking kit and the handle hit the small release leaver as it turned...Also, I didn't like removing the hook device after cocking as you have to put your fingers in the path of the string. All in all, the cranking is cumbersome (on my Hunter 2) so I'm returning it. Do you like the crank as opposed to just using the pull rope? Thanks

On my raptor fx it was well worth changing. The stock one stretchs so bad on cheaper Barnett crossbows. Mine was my consistent after the swap and smaller groups.

Hi.. just came across your presentation about your mythology and the cock cranking device.. You are very articulate in your presentation.. of being a professional photographer, you may as well had an alligator in a strangle hold.. all I saw was the camera taking a picture of the table. Some guy was out there talking about a cranking device, probably eating a steak and cheese sub.. get with it. I’m a professional photographer and you need help by all means take two …… In other words consider this procedure being repeated …someone else should be holding the camera to help your presentation maybe a close-up on a critical point of emphasis shoot straight.
