I love how you twisted the bracing wire to tension it. I've been thinking of using the ratchet device but this is so practical

Awesome job! I really like the idea of using the rail road tie on corner. Looks killer...you've inspired me to do mine that way. I agree with having the brace a little longer, however for a short run it will work just fine. The galvanized spike was a great idea. Much better than using staples for the brace wire, which everyone else uses. Well done! Thanks for sharing.

Clean work. I usually do the horizontal part of H brace as twice the lengh of how tall your fence is.

Could I use 4in diameter treated posts to make an H brace for my fence? I couldn’t find any 6 in diameter posts in my area.

Does the railroad tie needs to be cemented? I'm getting ready to do this for this weekend.

Looks good. Do you have an idea on how long the lifespan would be on those posts before they need replaced? You mentioned it was left overs - if you have to pick all 3 posts to be the same would you use the pressure treated wood or railroad ties? also did you use concrete or gravel or just packed dirt when setting your posts? thanks for the video =)

Marcus I think the lifespan of the posts would be relative to the moisture in the area. This is common in my part of the country, with a lot of old fences still upright. Ultimately I think the railroad ties would most likely out last the treated fir post. I typically use concrete when backfilling my post. Thanks for watching hope it helps.

If the fence needs to be 7' in height. How tall should the H-brace be??

Im trying to put a support tension wire on like you have twisted tight with the two metal twists but i don't know how. can you point me to any video or description? I can't find anything?

Wayne Williams you'll want to make two complete wraps with the brace wire. Wire it back to itself or use a crimp but you we'll need a crimp tool to do so. Once you have it connected back to itself you'll need a twitch stick, rebar is used in this installation. Place the twitch stick between the two sets of wires opposite of each other so your twitch stick is in between the outer and inner sets of wires. Once this is established turn the twitch stick in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction depending on what side the animals will be on. You'll want to make sure the twitch stick is secured on the opposite side of your animals. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching

Thanks for your help. 2 questions. What guage wire for the support wire? Second question. I will have a total of 4 wires to twist correct? I tried one side of the corner today with 9 guage and the twisting is not tightening the wires good enough
@1stgenfarmersranchers4016 жыл бұрын
Wayne Williams I use 12.5 gauge high tensile wire but there's a variety of wire and wire sizes people use. You'll have two sets of wires. You'll have to work the slack out real well before you start to tighten by pulling the slack out of each individual strand. I hope this helps. Thanks again for watching.

Why don't you use three big posts on your brace instead of one big one and two small ones?
@farmfencesolutionsllc6 жыл бұрын
If you'll make your braces twice as wide, drop that strut about 10", and flatten your brace wire out, your strainer won't pop out on you. Otherwise, nice job on the video. Please don't take my comment as an attack.....I made the same mistakes 25 years ago.

Why not use barb wire for tension instead of buying extra non barbed wire.

Nope. I see these corners all over KZfaq and they are wrong. Why would you brace horizontally and use wire to hold pressure. This is an old school method that has been passed down over the years. Sure it’ll work for a few years but just take a look as you cruise around. These corners ALWAYS end up leaning are totally going way.
