The Nest Power Connector is a simple C wire substitute for Nest thermostats if a C wire is needed.
🔌 The Nest Power Connector takes the place of a traditional C wire setup and is an affordable alternative to hiring an electrician to install a new C wire in your walls.
👍 There’s no need to for new wiring or drilling. The Nest Power Connector attaches to your furnace, air handler, or zone controller and comes with simple instructions for easy installation. If you would rather not do it yourself, a pro can easily handle it,
✅ Make sure your thermostat is compatible. The Nest Power Connector works with 24VAC HVAC systems only. Millivolt or high voltage systems are incompatible.

Had this issue with nest in my 1st house, having it again in another house. Looks like a common pain in the crack with Nest thermostat. Hope this thing finally helps and it doesn't cost another $300, I am freaking tired of dealing with that low battery headache. Was ready to switch back to my 20yo honeywell at some point, it works with no issues

Your comment is true nest set up instructions say in the first sentence, only two wires needed. Those who have no issues with the start have a complete heating , ventilation and air conditioning system. That system already has 5 wires designed in warmer climates.

My furnace at home has a gas burner, fan and AC with outdoor condenser. Followed the exact instructions as shown at 3:42 for a heating and cooling system using the Y-wire, but the furnace burner and fan won't come on when I enabled heating and only the outdoor condenser/AC compressor would enable when cooling. I reinstated the Y-wire to the furnace board and used the W-wire instead, and everything now works in both heating and cooling mode.

@@lawrence9844 I connected the Y-wire directly back to the furnace control board and connected the W-wire to the power connector (like the heating only diagram). It worked for a day or so but be warned, my furnace died shortly after that. I suspect the power connector was not able to maintain a consistent voltage supply and was messing up the control board. Replaced the furnace and put in a new cable with a proper common wire.

Note to those with zoned systems (multiple thermostats tied to one HVAC system): you will need a separate power connector for each zone/thermostat you have on your system. The power connectors are installed on the output side of the zone controller. Google does not clearly explain this.

I have been having HVAC issues ever since I installed my Nest. Been about 5 years and the last 3 years the AC does not turn on. We call someone and they just look at the AC and when I mean look I mean with their eyes, they don't even touch anything and the bloody thing works. I think I might need the Nest Power connector, how would we know if we need this? My only indication was that the last HVAC guy last year told me to get an ecobee that came with their own jump box that connected to the furnace circuit board. I looked last year and nothing from Nest until now. They even mentioned possibly running a dedicated 24V power but that was a $600 estimate and these were all best guesses from the HVAC company. When I turn on my AC, it doesn't start. It does not click, I changed the capacitor twice. When HVAC guy came he tested the old and new one and told me the old was still good, so swapped it back. The furnace fan blows the basement air in but no AC fan spins. Any help or suggestions are welcomed. Still wondering how I determine if I need this or if this will resolve my issues.

If your fan blows but your condenser does not come on you need to check a couple things. 1) Do you have 240v going to your condeser? Is your disconnect and breaker in the ON position? 2) do you have 24v going to your contactor? If so, does your contactor pull in, engaging your unit (condenser fan and compressor) 3) if you dont have 24v to your contactor then check your wiring from your furnace board to your condeser. Do you have 24v across Y and C? If not trace back to your thermostat

I wish google/nest didn't treat everyone like idiots and actually supplied these details for their devices. As i understand it, this device works by creating a closed loop between the red and white wires (mimicking red-to-common), so the nest device can always have power without risk of powering the relay. When the thermostat needs to turn on the unit, it sends a signal down the line to the power connector, and the power connector closes the relay loop itself. If you ever need to put the old thermostat back in place, uninstall the power connector first!
@jeffystreet
@jeffystreet 2 жыл бұрын
@@edelsmurf Ah! That makes sense. Though if I do get a nest thermostat, and it somehow needs this, (the checker says the eco is the only one that'd need the adapter in my home) and then it broke, I'd just get a replacement nest thermostat. Though if that happened again, I'd uninstall the power connector and switch brands.
@edelsmurf
@edelsmurf 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffystreet If your thermostat doesn't have a common line, you probably should get it even if they say you don't need it. Without it, the thermostat is trying to steal power to charge its internal battery while the unit is running -- but trying not to steal so much that the relay disconnects. And when it isn't running, according to the patent at least, it may try to steal enough to charge its battery without activating the relay. It's a tenuous configuration. My own two-wire setup worked fine until a recent software update, after which point the furnace suddenly started cycling on/off/on/off and i could hear relay chatter, because i guess somehow nest decided that they didn't need safety features. It's a shame that they can't get their act together, but at the end of the day, I'd rather pay $25 for this device than buy a new furnace when the thermostat destroys my current one.

Is this box just a resistor? Because of the way the wiring is, it sounds quite close to this "solution", of course they have you connect the R into it too.. but still... Connect a 220-ohm 5w resistor on the furnace between “C”&”Y”(or”W” if you have a heat only system)

It took a bit me to under stand why we need a c wire. Basically the heater and thermostat is in series. The heater is going to be taking up most of voltage and the thermostat get not enough. So adding a c wire it in parallel so the voltage is same.

Installed mine today. Had my nest for over 2 years, recently having problems where it was losing power and acting weird. Main problem was it would trigger my fan to power off and then back on right away with the a/c mode on so it would never reach target temp. A/c would run all day but the nest wouldn't show a change in temperature. This was easy to install and seems to fix my need for a common wire. So far so good. At the end of the day, 30$ for a potential fix isn't all that bad. Good luck!

I also decided to take the plunge. I have a 2 zone system with 2 thermostats, and it was not clear how that would work. But I discovered the "pro" installation guide which specifies that you will indeed need two power connectors (I recommend the pro guide version, better explanations). Installation was a breeze on a Honeywell HZ311 controller. 3 days later, all works well, including presence sensing which wasnt working before without a C wire. I've ordered my 2nd connector for my 2nd thermostat now, and all should be good!

Really disappointed with this. My electric company here in Iowa Alliant Energy promoted this thermostat that it would save me energy and that's why I got it and I was supposed to get it for free. So I ordered it and Google also said my system would work without the C wire and it didn't. So I ordered the C wire and paid I think around 28 dollars for the C wire kit. And then while I was waiting for my HVAC guy to return to install the C wire my Electric company charged me $65 for the thermostat. In the end it never saved me a penny in Electricity and even with the new c wire the battery would go poop every month and knock the thermostat offline and then I couldn't control it with the home app and it was always a chore to get it back online so I could control it with the home app. Right now I'm gonna remove all of this and install the plain old style round Honeywell thermostat and be done with this. I really truly regret getting this

This video is a bit confusing. The video shows us they already have a five wire thermostat bundle 1:14. If you have five wires (RGYWC) at your thermostat, you don't need this power connector. Secondly, the video shows you how to install the power connector for a three wire thermostat bundle for a heating and cooling system, but normally thermostat wires have four wires (RGYW).

@@jonkc3635 I meant from that time on, it shows multiple setups. For instance the one it shows 3:47 is a two wire install. If you're referring to the three gray wires those are going to the furnace control box where you connect to the two terminals that your thermostat would normally connect to them the 3rd wire connects to the common (C) terminal, and you just connect the 2 thermostat wires that you originally removed from the furnace terminals to the nest power supply. It can accommodate a lot of different setups.
