Jesse's Tight Whips I kept getting the message on the I drive for the fuel pump... now it does not crank or turn over but the pump is making a loud noise is that normal? Im getting 12v from the module and battery is also good.. any advice would be helpful. Thanks

@@guillermocarrillo8517 I'm sorry I just saw this. If its not cranking its not fuel related. The pump should be making noise as it primes and pressurizes the car to start. If its not cranking it could be a few different issues. Possible starter issue if your battery is good and has juice. If not the starter then it could be wiring or a computer.

Ur right!! It was my starter that was bad had the shop fix that for me. I installed the pump myself and proud u gave me motivation car is not stalling anymore.. installing the fuel lines on the fuel filter does it matter because I seemed to forget where each goes.. but car turns on and drives fine... should I be concerned??

+David mill Soto, it's possible, disconnect your fuel line under the hood and crank the engine. See if you have any fuel coming through. If not then probably a fuel pump getting ready to fail. If you do get fuel the issue might be with an injector.

It is definitely a possibility. Did you add some fuel just to make sure the tank isn't empty? It's definitely possible it's the pump but I would check for fuel first.

Insert and remove the key a few times. Each time you enter it triggers the pump

Sounds like some kind of short. If the car doesn't loose performance when you see the fuel pump message then it's electrical. I would go over the wires with a fine tooth comb. Make sure all the wiring connected to and next to the fuel pump are still covered, make sure the the wires are plugged in and secure and that they have no corrosion. If all that looks good I'd start replacing any fuse or relay associated with the fuel system.

When mine started giving out it would randomly cut out while I was driving. It then wouldn't start at all. It's possible that it may be your fuel pump, but I would start with a tune up since it's cheaper. Spark plugs, air filter ect. Rule everything out before you spend that much money to not have fixed the issue.

+ChazzFTW I honestly don't know if there's a difference between American spec and European E60s to which side the pump would reside. I'd assume outside of the driving position everything else should be the same but regardless you have to take apart both sides to remove the pump since the wiring harness and fuel lines run to the fuel leveler on the opposite side. I purchased mine at AutoZone since it comes with a lifetime warranty and I only wanted to buy it once. If there is still fuel in your line it will splash, just make sure you are ready for it. Priming the pump is simply inserting the key into the ignition waiting about 30 seconds rinse and repeat a few times to get fuel in the lines. My best advise is once you have gotten the tool and the pump you got this! Don't make it more difficult than it is. The hardest part in my opinion is getting the fuel lines back across the transmission tunnel. Everything else is straight forward.

Yeah it doesn’t seem to hard by watching the video but the thing is I was going to check over all the wiring before I ordered a new pump and I went to disconnect the battery but the tray right above the battery was absolutely full of water so I spent litterally the rest of the day searching for the leak by pretty much stripping all the trim out the rear part of my car and even all the ceiling trim and it seems that it’s coming from the sunroof. Ive already cleaned out the drainage tubes a couple months ago and they are still fine. the sunroof stopped working properly about a year ago and I think it hasn’t closed properly so I’m thinking about sealing it up completely but that isn’t going to fix the fact that my wiring has been pretty much rained on and snowed on and I’m now starting to think it is the wiring and it may also be time to say goodbye to my car because when I turn the ignition on it tells me my rear left light and indicators don’t work and my wipers are also stuck on And don’t stop until I turn the ignition off. I haven’t actually looked at the wiring for the pump yet but I’m going to check if it is wet or anything around it is wet because if not then I’ll still try putting another pump in it so I can atleast take it to a scrapyard if it is time to say bye 😅 but if the wiring is wet and ruined then I think I’m gonna give up on it unless I can get a wiring loom for cheap and it’s not too complicated. not looking too hopeful for me though 😅 shame cos it’s a nice car (when it works)

Oh and another problem is that the central locking won’t lock or unlock my drivers or passenger door but my back doors perfectly fine but that’s not the worst of my issues atm 😖

I just had a similar problem on my '11 335d with the glow plug control module. I replaced it and the glow plugs all is well now. As far as the rail pressure I'm not sure. My Diesel's fuel pump is in the engine bay as they are high pressure. So the video I have hear wouldn't be of assistance. I'm sorry.

+momar jallow, my best guess would be some kind of contamination getting in the way of the fuel flow. I'd start with the fuel filter, I'd also check in the tank to see if there is anything floating around in there. Start with the cheapest things and work your way up.

Thanks Jesse. I checked autozone and they wanted $312 just for the fuel pump assembly. Found the exact same brand on amazon for $144. Question, did you change out the fuel sensor at the same time as you replaced the fuel pump?

JMR Yeah it has definitely gone up since I did it. No all I changed was the assembly itself. $144 sounds awesome! If it comes with a warranty that's way better!

No simple answer for this one unfortunately... If it's popping the fuse it's grounding out somewhere. You would have to trace the fuel harness from the fuse box down through the trunk to the fuel lines on the fuel pump themselves. Wiring is never fun!

You mean from the fuse box fuse number 50 to the fuel pump connection under the seat ?? Or there is an other connection harness on the fuse box ?? Actually this happened after washing the car... I left the car without playing with it for two days. Now if i enter the fuse it is not burning the fuse but when i entered the fuse there was a bit of spark when entering the fuse. Still did not cranked it. Because i am afraid if something goes wrong. I got the fuse out after entering.. woundering if someone can guide me which wire to trace for verifying the shortage ???

+changeis k changeis K it's definitely possible. An easy and quick way to check if it's turning on is have someone insert the key while you're listening at the fuel door. Make sure you remove the gas cap and put your ear right up to the fuel filler neck and have them start it. You should hear the pump kick on.

First thing I'd check is that you have a full tank of gas. If you do and still run into the issue it's possible.

Does the fuel pump have to be the same as the one in stock or can it be different? Look wise because I’m searching for the ones that look like the one my car has but they’re all for 3 series models.

@@alejandromarincruz422 I don't know which cars came with the same or different fuel pumps, I would assume any vehicle with the same engine should be able to use the same fuel pump such as a 530i vs a 330i.

That side has the fuel level sensor. I'm not sure what the gasket would be called separate the fuel pump as when I purchased mine it came with both side gaskets.

+George Medina Nope. Fuel pump is on the passenger side. Fuel level sender and fuel filter are on the driver side. You do need to disconnect the fuel lines connected to those on the driver side to be able to remove the fuel pump though.

Jesse do you mean sender or sensor and also will they both be on the same side for a UK car? and also where do you recommend to buy a new pump from because I can’t seem to find a place without the price ranging from something like £115 to about £500. (That’s actually not a great question since we’re over the pond from each other but oh well) also I saw that some fuel splashed when you got rid of the pressure. Guessing you have to do a very good job of cleaning that up ? and is there a way I can avoid that happening or shall I use some sort of pot and aim it In there or something aha. sorry for the amount of questions I just want to fix my baby 😂😂

If you paid to have it changed I'd take it back to the shop that did it. It could be that they kinked a hose when installing it or it could be a relay.

Check ur fuel pump relay.

You may need to prime the pump by inserting the key a few times. Then try to start

Shouldn't be. Smelling fuel could be a bad gasket for the fuel pump or a crack in the fuel line.
