My 2010 Epiphone Dot 335 is the perfect candidate for a String Butler. This device is easy to install and ensures that the 2,3,4&5 strings run straight thru the nut on Gibson style 3+3 guitar headstocks. Gibson Les Paul, SG, 335, Acoustics, Epiphones - you name; it should provide more stable tuning since the string does not leave the nut at an acute angle towards the tuning post. Coupled with the D'Addario Lubrikit nut lube friction remover, this should be a sure fire combination... we'll see over time Enjoy the video!

I have a string butler. I works great. Your best best is to not use the plastic washers. Just lay the butler flat on the headstock. I you are uncomfortable with this, then do what I did and put electrical tape on the bottom of the string butler to protect the headstock better. Fantastic product!

Interesting gadget. What will they think of next? Installation is pretty straightforward and I like that it's not permanently mounted.

Only strange thing is the String Butler creates more of an angle with the strings...... but is idea that it is a round post so less friction..... does post swivel??
@ManotickGuitarTech

it is more about the angle of the strings going thru the nut that causes tuning issues... or so they say.

Very interesting gizmo, but I’ve never had any problems arising from the angle of the strings downward to the nut.

Lots of good reviews on this, but it didn’t work for my Gibson. I had tech do some work on the nut and like magic it my 339 stays in tune!

That's the best option- angled nut slots work...not sure why they don't do that right from the factory

Hi. I have Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Which string butler - V2 or V3 Dietrich should I buy?
@ManotickGuitarTech
@ManotickGuitarTech 8 ай бұрын
You have to measure the distance between the 1st and 6th string tuning posts- then check the string butler specs for their reccomendation.

so the theory is the rollers are better fit to take the break angle with out snagging instead of the nut?
@ManotickGuitarTech
@ManotickGuitarTech Жыл бұрын
The rollers offer less resistance and the straight run thru the nut helps prevent snagging

I would advise NEVER using steel wool anywhere near electric guitars - little bits of steel get everywhere - and next you'll find them stuck to the pickups and you'll never get them off - I speak from experience - and Mr B from Stewmac said so too . .

Very true- I usually tape off the pickups

I solved this problem by getting schecter guitars That have a straight string angle going off of the nut slot to the tuners

String butlers are for people who never learned proper tuning techniques. Only tune up to pitch and pull up on string to ensure no caught tension. takes one second while tuning and you never have tuning stability issues. It's amazing how many people don't know how to do this.

These are best deployed for guitars with tremolo units... I recommend a roller bridge, and nut lube for best results...

I have always tuned using this technique, and my Les Paul and SG are the only guitars that this doesn’t work on. I got string butlers for both, and they are fine now

If your nut slots are tight, with strings sticking in them, then this thing will make absolutely no difference. In fact, if the nut slots don't line up with the rollers, it could make things worse as the strings kink through the nut. It is essential to have a well cut nut in the first place, and lo and behold, once that's done, you'd find that devices such as this are completely unnecessary.
