I just got mine in the mail today and attached it it set it up. I used to have an adjustable ridge line but a fixed one is much better as it doesn’t have extra line hanging inside the hammock. Great job on the video and thank you for such excellent products and service.

Question for you on this. I received my REM hammock yesterday and it has a shock cord inside the bug net to hold it up. The SRL is on the outside. Is that the way you want it to be used? I'd like to ditch the shock cord and run the SRL inside, like I usually do. Can I do that, or is the SRL outside the net to make sure the net can't get stretched too far somehow. It's a nice piece of gear and I'm planning to get some good use out of it. Thank you.

What if my hammock doesn't have an opening to thread the ridgeline through ?

You may have to have it above the bug netting if that's the case

Is there a way to calculate the length of the ridgeline in relation to the length of the hammock - or do I just experiment?

You want to aim for a ridgeline length that is 83% of the hammock length. Then experiment from there. I've found like 87% works best for me

THE LENGTH OF RIDGE LINE IS USUALLY GOING TO BE 80% OF THE LENGTH OF YOUR HAMMOCK. EXAMPLE FOR A 11 FOOT HAMMOCK. THE RIDGE LINE WOULD BE 110 INCHES LONG. IN MOST STANDER HAMMOCK LENGTHS. 80 % IS NORMAL USUALLY.

Just curious. Why do you attach the Larks Heads to soft material and not to the carabiner? I just bought a OneWind hammock that has an adjustable ridgeline already on it, and it is attached to the buckles on either end of the hammock. Now I am planning on buying a second, cheaper hammock without a ridgeline for friends who want to go camping with me. I plan on adding a ridgeline myself. So I am researching how to make them. I just noticed that you attach to webbing where mine is attached to buckles, and I thought I'd ask why.

Thank you for the question! It is really up to the hanger in my opinion. When you research how long does a ridgeline need to be, many people recommend starting with a length of 83% of the hammocks length. If you go by this formula, then you will want to attach it to the end of the hammock or as close as possible. If you use an attachment point farther from the hammock ends, you will need to do 83% of that length end to end. What I'm trying to say is that if you have a 11 foot hammock and you are attaching your ridgeline a foot up, away from the hammock end, on each side, then you will need to make your ridgeline 83% of 13 feet. In my experience, you want the ridgeline as close to the hammock ends as possible.
