A tip for anchorage of soaking tubs. On installs where I have access underneath I like to screw a piece of aluminum angle, perpendicular to the length of the tub, to each pair of steel legs. I then drill a 1/2” hole in it, and put a bolt or length of threaded rod long enough to penetrate the subfloor. Then with a nut and washer underneath I can tighten it to the floor. Two half inch bolts I’ve found are enough to make it rock solid. Of course you have to be willing/able to drill extra holes in the finished floor. I wish some of the manufacturers would add a few extra 1/2” nuts welded in for this purpose. On installs where I can’t access the underside of the finished floor I make “cheats” usually out of treated 2x I put two approximately 6” long pieces, with a groove at the bottom that allows the bottom lip of the tub to slide in, on the floor usually screwed down(I have glued them though). I install these under the side of the tub opposite where someone would be getting in so the tub can’t be tipped when leaning in the edge. Then I put two pieces without a groove opposite these as close to the rim as clearance allows. Leave the drain opening just big enough that the back edge can be slid under the cleats before setting the front edge down. Once the tub is on the floor slide it tight against the unknotched blocks. (I put a liberal bead of silicone on the front lip before pushing it tight to help keep it against the blocks) I find that particularly in homes with children some form of more secure anchorage is critical. I have been to half a dozen calls to repair drains where children climbing in an empty acrylic tub or adults setting on the edge actually tipped it enough to break the drain pipe. Additionally, there are a couple manufacturers who make a “drop in” drain. The drain is roughed in flushing to the floor. It has one or more oring seals that allow a standard brass tailpiece lubricated with silicone seal lube to be slid in from the top. You attach the tailpiece to the tub and with help set tub in place and your done no gluing or tightening. Tile coach on KZfaq has a video about it.

Ita actually not so bad. I think i was drunk when i made my first comments. I like that you choose to do without the flex trap. Only thing i could say little more primer help soften up that pipe its a much stronger bond. Did a nice job on them water lines.

Very few houses if any have a bath plumb going straight into a bloody basement like that. 99. 9 % of us have a bath upstairs which means the pipe has to go through the floor and out the wall! Let's see you do one of those fits.

What happens if you don’t have a basement and the bath is in an upstairs bathroom?

Hey misha I am giving you a tip cut half of the pipe off so that it is not hanging connect it through the stud so it is not hanging just what I recommend

All good if you have access to the floor below, which I don't in my 2 story house. I have a finished popcorn ceiling that has faded over time so cutting a hole and repairing it is an expensive option as I would need to do the entire room. I'm going to install a rubber P trap with no ridges.

I just moved into a house and it has this exact tub. It wobbles pretty bad so my question is can I lift it in order to adjust the feet? I don’t want the connector popping off and creating a new problem

Needs more then a couple swipes of primer. Primer just dont clean the pipe, it really helps in the process of the chemical weld.

How did you silicone seal the tub to the floor? That looks like you cannot get access in the corner.

Who manufactured that tub? I am currently working on that exact gray accordian type overflow. There are no markings on the tub, and the overflow has split. I am trying to locate the part. It is a rectangular style overflow but is exactly the same for the tie into the foot drain.

What do you do if you don't have basement access? My p-trap is already set in between the floor joists have good 8-in hole but the p-trap tube they gave me never get set right. The water won't drain It's like the hose moves or something when I sit down the tub. Would love to glue it but there's no way I could lift up the whole toe tub and get the right fit with wet glue. I've seen some other hoses that are collapsible, but it looks hokey.

Is there a reason you didn’t had a shutoff valve on the hot and cold supply line? Also should of done a hub x hub connection p trap just in case the tub needs to be replaced or removed.

Can you give me advice on plumbing for washer drain out. So my washer is located 8 feet away from the drain out. I have the washer hose in the stand pipe, the flow goes down the stand pipe ground level across 4ft , then it goes up 18 inches and then across about 3 or 4 feet, elbow fitting into drain. The problem I have is water over flow from stand pipe. I Believe the issues is the direction of the water flow of the pipes causing it to back up. Help

This video did not show any of the details needed to properly install a free-standing tub’s in-floor drain. Free-standing tubs endure a great deal of force not only up and down as the weight of water and bathers is added to it, but also lateral forces as kids play in the tub and as elderly brace themselves on one side or another as they climb in and out. , not to mention the not so elderly as they brace adjust the tub and so thing in shower rooms. How is the tub secured to the floor. How did you seal around the tub to keep water from going down the sides and into the space below. Additionally, the subfloor is exposed to any water that makes its way past the seal. I ask this because our Island Tub Drain has failed twice and these are all the factors that came into play with its failure.

Should have shown how to use the flexible drain pipe in the case that it's not possible to relocate the drain directly below the tub.

So you're using the plumbing to secure into place so it doesn't move? Wouldn't silicone for adhesion and a flexible pipe just in case be a better option. Also, easier to install and line up.

The finish scratches real easy. I wouldn't recommend sitting in the tub with shoes. Makes for good Hollywood, but lousy finishing practice.

The tub was wobbly on the floor , he’s a bit of a sloppy plumber , he use his pliers to open the glue can wrong & his 45 degree bend in subfloor looked out of whack

Looks like your using “ cleaner” not primer. You must use primer with pvc or the bond will not hold. Primer does not clean the pipe. It creates a chemical reaction with the glue to create a permanent weld. Just using pvc glue without primer will fail over time.
