This is the most informative tutorial on irrigation I have ever come across. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and keeping it to the point. People who post excessive verbal garbage in their tutorials should take note and learn from this lady.

Can I make a suggestion I used to use on a 200 acre farm where pressure could be a problem as could imagine the main feed line is connected in a ring so it has equal pressure from 2 direction then take all your branch tine off that for example a drip line can be fed from to 2 direction also. I imagine if you're a molecule of water and you're wanting to get to a plant you're looking for an outlet, but you miss the first outlet you are under pressure from 2 direction somewhere along the way you'll be forced out of the system. means you can run you system further at lower pressure it squeezes the water out. If it work over a 200 acre farm it'll work in most small gardens but it does take a bit of planning What I start with is the main line as a ring the all intersecting lines are bridges across the ring you system that you describe should be able to cover over 100 meters fairly easily.

Your simple and concise manner of explaining drip irrigation is brilliant.. The so called professionals complicate everything.- one thing I did not see was a backflow prevention devise . - maybe the rules are different in the UK.

Hi Craig, thank you for your comment, we're glad you found this video helpful. In domestic gardens in the UK, irrigation kits such as the one in this video can be fitted directly to the water supply without a backflow prevention device, kind regards.

Hi me Roshan Adhikari from Nepal.I have kitchen garden but i am lacking the know how in drip irrigation.So, i can't manage 50% of my productive kitchen garden.What might be economical way to have drip irrigation for seasonal kitchen garden such that water bills can be reduced and human effort for pouring water in plants roots be reduced?
@thompsonmorgan
@thompsonmorgan 9 жыл бұрын
Roshan Adhikari Hello. It sounds as though a drip irrigation system would be ideal for you. It allows you to target the roots of specific plants without wasting water elsewhere. This makes it very cost effective and reduces the need for manual watering. If you dont want to invest in a proper drip irrigation kit then you could try laying an old hosepipe on the ground around your plot and puncturing tiny holes in it where it passes your plants. This will provide a similar effect, allowing water to escape the hosepipe and water the plants.

Hi, i installed my drip irrigation system to water my roses... its been a few months now & and really happy with it but since i added some 4mm hose & a lot of mini sprinklers of hozelock to my supply hose to water my flowers. Now my last rose at the end of my drip irrigation isnt getting watered like it used to (or even watered at all) :( . I guess i used maybe 35 or 40meters of supply hose & i have maybe up to 15meters of 4mm feeding my flowers too now. Wanted to ask i have 3 meters of supply hose from one side of the garden to the other which has no sprinklers on it if i use a Hozelock Dual Tap Connector to split the supply hose in half (which will make it into two supply hoses instead of one). Do you think it will water the whole garden better for me even for my last rose please :( ? I also have a hozelock pressure regulator stuck to my hose pipe. Should i remove it? Please help :(
@thompsonmorgan
@thompsonmorgan 7 жыл бұрын
Wow - thats a lot of questions! There are lots of variables at play here. Your water pressure will be a key determining factor in how far the system will be able to reach. However, it sounds as though you are trying to water everything simultaneously. This is unlikely to work as there will only ever be the same amount of water coming from the tap. It is better to use several supply hoses and then connect one at a time to water each area of the garden. You might also want to check that the drippers dont need cleaning/ replacing. Over a season they can easily become blocked with soil and debris. I would leave the pressure regulator in place.

Yes you should be able to use the same system

Would it be a good idea to set it up and run the sprinklers, and then use some sort of moisture measure gauge to evaluate whether i need more or less water? Part of the reason i want an auto sprinkler is i cant work out how much and how often to water
@thompsonmorgan
@thompsonmorgan 10 жыл бұрын
Marius Draconis you can buy soil moisture sensors for guidance, although we generally find a little trial and error is all that's needed to work out how often and how long to keep the sprinklers on for. As long as the soil is free-draining it's better to thoroughly soak the soil once or twice a week rather than have short bursts of water every day which only wet the surface. We hope this helps.

can you leave the faucet on the whole time if the timer is set daily? Does it requiring turning off the faucet everyday?
@thompsonmorgan
@thompsonmorgan 7 жыл бұрын
Provided that there are no leaks around the tap then yes you can turn the tap on and leave it for the day. I would check your system daily though to ensure that it is working properly with no leaks.

Thank you, I couldn't get a grip on how the timer kept the water from flowing as the faucet was on. It does somehow!

Sorry - we used to sell this system but our range does change from time to time. The video is still relevant though as the principles are the same with most irrigation systems. Hope you managed to fix your system ok.

You needed a pressure reducer, the outside from your tap is too high and causes the droppers to pop

I bought polyethylene flex tubing and it is very difficult to pop an emitter in (thick tubing, doesn't lay flat easily) - i guess I bought the wrong kind? what is the name of the tubing used here?
@thompsonmorgan
@thompsonmorgan 9 жыл бұрын
+SteveDawg OchoCinco Hi there. The tubing comes as part of our kit, although I am unsure of its exact composition. This is a fairly common difficulty. You may find that submerging the tubing in hot water or holding it (carefully) over a steaminbg kettle will soften it sufficiently to make it more pliable and easier to work with.

The connectors on any system should be watertight, but there is always a risk of leaks over time with general wear and tear.
