WHAT TO EXPECT
In the series, we cover the gamut of tools real guys would use in their shop. Everything from welders, plasma cutters, metal forming tools like an English Wheel, bead rollers, paints and more!
We get a quote from an Auto Restoration Shop on a repair like installing a new door skin. We buy the tools and supplies needed to tackle the repairs ourselves and see if we can beat the quote!
Mark is the veteran of the series, using his skills to fabricate his own panels on his 1966 Chevy Corvair, including replacing rusted floors pans and even a new door skin.
Cody is the newbie. An up and coming star at Eastwood, Cody has mechanical knowledge and has completed his fare share of motorcycle and jeep projects. His 1967 Camaro will be his first dive into restoring an American classic, utilizing Eastwood tools and AMD sheet metal while bringing the car back to life!
Randy is the project manager of the series, lending a helping hand when needed, but more importantly, keeping the fellas on task and under budget!

Great stuff. What prep is needed to later paint over the rust encapsulator which is over many contours that are difficult to reach?

On the amd metal panels they were black did you have to grid that coating off before welding or that coating is good to weld to.

I just found this series and so far I am loving it. what are the long term plans for it? it looks like it was a strait 6 car with a manual trans from the factory. I hope you plan to keep the I6. you don't see many I6 cars any more. everyone swapped them to big blocks back in my day, and the whole LS swap everything is over done these days. It would sure be cool to see a hopped up I6 under the hood in stead of a ugly LS. I would also keep the manual trans. those cars got decent gas mileage back then. I know you are a long way from paint, any ideas on the color? personally I think a metallic Eastwood Blue with a white bumblebee stripe on the nose would look awesome.

You should have welded the floor to the frame rails from top and use self tapping screws

Great stuff, but you have to be careful blasting sheet metal - i've seen it get warped to hell from sandblasting. A less aggressive media doesn't seem to cause any problems. Of course stiffer panels like rockers and floorpans wouldn't be an issue.

Why didn't you brace the car before taking the floors out

If you are removing complete flooring, 1x1 bracing should have been used. to keep the car from twisting and buckling.

Just like LoneRider has said, to prevent warping. And also such a multiple points structure is just stronger, then one big solid connection.

What’s happened to the Camaro project?
@SteveBueche1027

No bracing of the body before removing the floor? Was there and movement ? That car needs a good dipping for all that hidden rust you can’t see or get to without huge amounts of metal removal. Then a galvanized dip.

yeah all the work is sloppy, but thats the reality for many body shops out there. They will do the exact same job or even worse

@@johnadona3014 I agree, that's why I work on my own cars. I don't trust a shop to do work to my expectations. I over do everything and to perfection. It takes me longer than most to repair a car but my work is far superior and will not have to be done again. I've always been this way and won't settle for half ass work.
