WHAT TO EXPECT
In the series, we cover the gamut of tools real guys would use in their shop. Everything from welders, plasma cutters, metal forming tools like an English Wheel, bead rollers, paints and more!
We get a quote from an Auto Restoration Shop on a repair like installing a new door skin. We buy the tools and supplies needed to tackle the repairs ourselves and see if we can beat the quote!
Mark is the veteran of the series, using his skills to fabricate his own panels on his 1966 Chevy Corvair, including replacing rusted floors pans and even a new door skin.
Cody is the newbie. An up and coming star at Eastwood, Cody has mechanical knowledge and has completed his fare share of motorcycle and jeep projects. His 1967 Camaro will be his first dive into restoring an American classic, utilizing Eastwood tools and AMD sheet metal while bringing the car back to life!
Randy is the project manager of the series, lending a helping hand when needed, but more importantly, keeping the fellas on task and under budget!

I purchased the SCT grinder and used it on my 66 Mustang. It took me less than an hour to fully strip each panel to fresh metal and that was cutting through three previous paint jobs! Amazing. Far better than paint stripper. This is the best tool in my shop. Unsolicited endorsement. Great tool and great video series. Gary

My grandfather showed me how to do bend and shape metal with nothing more then a hammer and anvil when I was a kid. You can still do good stuff but tools like this make it quicker, I need a good metal Fab kit

That was really good. I've got a '54 Ford Ranch Wagon with floor pans that resemble the Covairs'.

Nice video series, Mark seems on the ball, also nice humor, bu t two suggestions: 1) PLEASE cut out that lousy constant annoying background "music". Why does Eastwood do that on EVERY video? 2) Cut down on saying "I went ahead and...." and "I'm going ahead and....."

I cringe when people put their hands on bare metal like that. Gotta keep it clean! I wouldn't leave it in bare metal for long either before getting some kind of primer on it.

I'm sorry but those panel separating knives do not go through spot welds "like butter" - they tear the metal instead. Better off drilling out the old spot welds.
@GridIndustries
@GridIndustries 5 жыл бұрын
I've done both, just kinda of depends. There have been times where i was able to just tear the metal on the side of the panel I was removing, then there was just a small tab of metal left to grind off what was left behind on the good side.

So you’re comparing a shop estimate to what it costs to buy a boatload of tools. A shop charges a fee and you get a finished product Or You spend the same amount for the tools and you haven’t got anything but a rusty mess. All of Eastwood equipment is good, but, talent doesn’t come in the boxes. I bought a guitar and still can’t play stairway!

Well if you could afford to starve for a month while you worked on this car then it wouldn't be hard to just go out and buy all these tools. Sad thing is if you have children you may end up being on the 5 o'clock news.

@@GridIndustries Why? It has what is a kin to a volkswagen engine, It looks like an inbreed of several chevy models sporting none of the cool aspects of the styling of those models, it was deemed a death trap. What possible redeeming qualities can anyone possibly point to? All IU can think of is that it was so bad that it's cool, like the volkswagen Thing or the AMC Pacer.
@GridIndustries
@GridIndustries 5 жыл бұрын
@@sevilnatas It has an air-cooled flat 6 cylinder engine, the dangerous suspension issue flagged by Ralph Nader didn't show it to be anymore dangerous than comparable cars of the day. All the things you don't like about the styling are completely subjective. I could just as easily name tons of other cars that were deemed as deathtraps as well. Many people would call any vehicle without airbags a deathtrap, these days. Because you don't like that car doesn't mean other people don't. Like any other car, it has it's own following and enthusiasts.
@sevilnatas
@sevilnatas 5 жыл бұрын
@@GridIndustries So the air-cooled flat 6 cylinder engine is all you could come up with? I think there is a reason why that engine is such a unicorn. As far as the What about-ism argument and the most cars would be considered death traps these days argument are obviously not real arguments.
@GridIndustries
@GridIndustries 5 жыл бұрын
@@sevilnatas The engine is a turd and I despise air cooled engines in automotive applications. I never said the engine was good, but it's not the same as the flat 4 in the bug. What argument? You don't like the car, some people do, that doesn't mean you need to shit on it. What car is worthy of restoration in your opinion?
