I replaced some light bulbs in my garage workshop with LED Strip Lights fixtures from Lithonia to improve the brightness and visibility. The installation of the LED lights was a straightforward process. I take you through step by step on how I was able to improve the lighting situation in my workshop, with some humor. These lights are super bright and are great for any workshop or garage. You might also get to see my dog, who knows!

Love the production value of this video & all its silliness XD Our kitchen lights haven't been working even after replacing the led bulbs so was curious to see how this style of fixture are disassembled to snoop into the wiring and see if anything has come loose (after shutting off the power of course). It's an old house so maybe the whole unit needs to be replaced by now.

Excellent Instructions and loved the humor. Thanks for no loud music:) 1. Curious if it was bright enough? 2. I looks like you did not bother w/a strain relief bushing. They don't provide one. I have my old one. I'm replacing a 2 ft (20 watt florescent) in the kitchen that I really liked, but nobody makes a similar one at a decent price. I have a humming 4 ft florescent in the kitchen, but prefer a quiet backup that are a tad less bright (and no noise) on occasion. I just bought this exact fixture and got confused at step 2. Ha! ''Remove Wireway Cover (2) by lifting upward on ex-posed edges of part. Start in the middle and work outward.'' What messed me up was trying to start at the middle, per directions. It was not coming loose, so I stuck a small screwdriver along the edge to pry and scratched the paint. THAT is when I thought...hope there is a utube video for dummies. I 'thought' you started on the end, so I tried that & it was easier.

lol great video.. just a tip for UK viewers who will maybe do this job in their integral garage: locate the position of the joists so that the mounting screws go into the middle of the joist. The nails holding the plasterboard ceiling boards up will show you where they are. There's a whole world of trouble between the joists (water pipes and electric cables) patiently waiting for your drill to find them & ruin your life.

Awesome video. I stopped listening once you brought in the Kong frisbee at which I began the oh my god haha I can relate laugh thinking of how I broke my best buddy’s (a super awesome rusty dobie who’s gonna break frisbee records for sure sometime soon) habit of fetching and not leaving it with a sweet little device from tractor supply. Wiring in remote included. He’s so much happier not having to try a tug of war each return. Leaves more time for catching.

FYI: in order to remove the cover from the fixture body, you have to squeeze the metal fixture to release it from the plastic cover (the metal fixture is positioned on the inside while the cover is on the outside); work it from one end, squeezing, then all the way down to the other end. Also, if you are going to use the plug-in option, it’s easier to remove the end cover plug and attach the cord BEFORE mounting it.

Thank you so much for this. I want to do the same thing, and have the exact same single-bulb fixture I'd be replacing with the bigger LED fixture. Since the new fixture puts out more light, does that necessarily mean it draws more electricity? Would I need to replace any breaker or wiring to accommodate? I'm thinking too much, aren't I? lol Thanks again, the video was awesome..!

What you should’ve done is put a round junction box cover with a 1/2” knock out on it to make sure no bodies fingers since you can’t legally patch it because there is most likely splices in that box
@SeWuHSidEE
@SeWuHSidEE 3 жыл бұрын
Isn’t a junction box legally required?
@jayphilbin2871
@jayphilbin2871 2 жыл бұрын
@@SeWuHSidEE if the connections are made within the housing of the light fixture, that is considered the junction box. Realistically (as long as there are no splices and the cable is secured within 8”) the NM (ie romex) can drop through a small hole in the ceiling as long as a strain relief fitting is secured to the fixture. If connections are made outside of the fixture, then a junction box and cover are required.

Is there any other lights (more visually appealing) that install similarly with the wire pulling through the light fixture? I have a wire stubbed out of the wall with no junction box or ceiling box in a closet. My initial intention was to do one of these but not sure if its going to be appealing enough to buyers.

The author does like to from scratch, kzfaq.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

If you think there's something loose that shouldn't be, it's time to call an electrician as I am definitely not one.
@nicksaffle977
@nicksaffle977 4 жыл бұрын
Red is most likely wired back to a switch. However, it is very unsafe to rely on the color of wires being used. While yes, in theory White should be Neutral, Black should be Hot and Red should be “Load”, this is not always the case. The only true way of knowing is to invest in a multimeter and take some test voltages. Or as mentioned above, call an electrician.
@georgeoreilly5347
@georgeoreilly5347 3 ай бұрын
Please clarify something for me. Only 2 wires come out of the ceiling, a white wire and a black wire. However, the LED unit has 3 wires a white, a black and a green ground wire. You connect white to white and black to black but what do I do with the green wire that's in the unit? It doesn't have a corresponding ground wire coming out of the ceiling.
@CasualBuilds
@CasualBuilds 3 ай бұрын
Hey George, I’m no electrician, but that green wire needs to be ground to something. I’d check with someone who knows more.
