How to install an oval chain ring with SRAM direct mount. I swapped my 32 tooth round chainring for an Absolute Black 32 tooth oval chainring. It's pretty easy but you want to be sure to do it correctly. Now's a great time to check the bottom bracket bearings and the rest of the drive train. My chain was sticky so I installed a new one. One note: Be sure to buy the correct offset for whether your bike is boost rear or not.
Here's a link to the test ride comparing this chainring to the old round one on the same bike, same trail a few days apart. The results were UNBELIEVABLE! You gotta see this! • Oval chain ring MTB Te...

So I had to go back and listen to my recorded voice (since no one ACTUALLY sounds like they think) and then Tom's. Aside from the Canadian lilt I hear similarities. I never realized just how smooth, sexy, and relaxing Tom Green's voice really is 😅

There is no way to get it wrong this is a sram dub direct mount only one way it will fit. not like the four bolt mounts like the 104 bcd and the 64 bcd etc. those do have an orientation mark.

Thanks for this video. Just wondering, am currently planning to try replacing my 32t round chainring to a 32t oval chainring. The bike in the video is a full suspension bike, and it seems that the chain didn't need replacement. Will there be a difference, when it comes to the chain length, for a hard tail bike? Thanks!
@TrailBreaker
@TrailBreaker 3 жыл бұрын
For SS you’ll need a spring type chain tensioner since the chain will be too loose for half of the pedal stroke. If you swap 32t round for 32t oval the chain is fine

@@TrailBreaker my current set up is a 1x12 speed trail bike with a chainguard (CGH-04) that, as the item says, can accommodate 32t to 38t chainrings. So, I don't need to worry about needing a new chain installation, similar to your video? Thanks a lot for this!
@barefootbob1269
@barefootbob1269 7 ай бұрын
No if your chain was the correct length for you're 32 round it will be fine with the oval the derailleur will take up the slight difference. Three different ovals and never had to change chain length

Hi. I bought a chainring and installed it. It is occasionally rubbing against the rear frame. Would this cause damage to the bike. Or am I fine to ride like this?
@TrailBreaker

That depends. Is the frame aluminum or carbon? Al...no big deal. You could even fle a little and touch up the paint. Carbon...not good.

Is the 32t oval chainring bigger than the round one (diameter)? Thanks
@barefootbob1269
@barefootbob1269 7 ай бұрын
It is both a little smaller and a little bigger. At the elongated part a bit bigger and the rest a touch smaller. In total it sort of evens out. You should not need to mess with chain length.

@TrailBreaker
@TrailBreaker 2 жыл бұрын
Check your chain length first. Easiest way is to disconnect it and run it around the biggest cog and the chain ring bypassing the derailleur. Proper length is when it just meets plus 2 links. Next check your derailleur clutch. It's the internal spring that pulls the bottom jockey wheel up and keeps tension on the chain. Is your chain ring worn? Is it a narrow-wide design? After this, you can always add a chain guide to keep it on. Here's a link to a video I did kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtOZgdd418u4dYE.html Good luck!

@TrailBreaker

Victor Rafa Absolutely! For direct mount chainrings you can’t put it on wrong. For 4-bolt chainrings there is a little triangle printed on the chainring that you place under the crank arm. When installed correctly the chain is tallest when the crank arm is at 3 o’clock
