Thank you. I wasn’t sure the actual purpose of the trim ring and it was making me hesitant to install. Your video was the first of the many I watched, which actually explained it.

Thanks man… Our temps last night were -8 and had a pipe burst in my basement and with no plumbing experience whatsoever, I feel confident I can replace the part with one of these

On the shakbite packages it says on the labels to remove the plastic insert when using the sharkbite on copper. The plastic insert is for PEX

It says on their KZfaq page that you do NOT need to remove the stiffener.

Your video is one of the only that mentions the trim ring. I wasn’t sure if it was for shipping, a removal tool, meant to be left on to install then removed or what!

That was CPVC not PVC. There IS a difference. Also., the insert in the Sharkbite should be removed. Although not mandatory, it's just something else to help constrict the flow of water. It's only needed when using PEX.

@@df56gh4d5h 1:26 Did you watch the whole video? that's cpvc pipe. 0:36 That insert is only needed for PEX. It should be removed for copper and cpvc. Just grab it with a needle nose and pull it out.

@@todd2456 True, but it's not necessary for CPVC or copper. It will only restrict water flow, so take it out if not needed. Shark Bite does say it doesn't _have_ to be removed, but it may be removed.

Do you need the trim ring if the fit is too tight? Or is it just trim for show/looks?

Sharkbite makes non-push on. (threaded) valves now but the quality is very poor. I just installed two today and both of them leak at the shaft stem. Very dissappointing. Not only do they leak at the valve stem, there are only 2 threads to engage with your plumbing.

The “trim” ring. I flip it around and use it as the removal tool. Other than that, it’s basically useless. I never even heard it called a trim ring. At first I thought it was just an aesthetic thing, but then I realized I could use it to remove the valve without having to use my pex removal tool. Good luck everyone.

Hi, question. I had to replace my shutoff valve. When I took of the old compression sleeve, new one didn't fit because the old ring made the pipe a bit thinner. So I googled and found Sharkbite shutoff valve and installed. My question is, after installed, if I leave it just as is then it's no problem, no leak. But if I grab it and twist then water is coming out. Is this normal?

Actually there is a chart or a depth tool to mark how far to push the Sharkbite onto the pipe.

Is the valve supposed to spin on the pipe? Would it leak if it spins?
@Manzilla56
@Manzilla56 Жыл бұрын
It is supposed to spin. It's actually a unique characteristic of sharkbites that make them more versatile for certain things. It shouldn't be leaking. Hopefully you have measured the depth needed and marked it on the pipe prior to install.
@David-nz4st
@David-nz4st 6 ай бұрын
Yes it should spin. That way you don't have to buy several shut off valves that need to point up/down/sideways. It will rotate and do all of them.
