Cement Tiles are super popular right now, but if they aren't installed carefully it can leave you with an ugly tile job. These are the tips and tricks to achieve a beautiful cement tile floor. Even if you hire a professional tile installer, you'll want to know this information (because your tile installer may not know how to handle cement tiles.)

I am so grateful for this video! How long did you wait between coats of grout release?

I think I was only able to apply up to two coats of sealant per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon.) The cement tiles are so porous that it took a while for them to absorb and dry.

I'm THRILLED that I found this video, thank you! I just finished phase one with all tiles installed on the kitchen backsplash and ready for sealant tomorrow, grout the next day, etc. It already looks great. This is by far the best tutorial for installing cement tiles that I've found. I've installed 4x4 talavera tiles many times before, but was nervous about 8x8 cement on a backsplash. You've made my job so nice and easy!

No, the house was sold. All that's needed is to re-coat. No need to refinish or polish unless the tiles are damaged.

Hi Brittany, great video! We got Atlas Gray for an accent wall behind the range. My husband finnally started installing the tiles last night and looking at them this morning (about 8-10 hours later), the tiles look discolored , especially the white sections, they're kind of yellowish, and the grays look darker. Maybe he soaked them too long and they are still wet? Do you think they will continue to dry back to that nice white, or did he do something horribly wrong? They surely don't look like one I've just pulled out of the box

Linda, I'd check with the manufacturer and see what they say. I wish I could help, but this doesn't sound like anything I've experienced.

I do only because otherwise your hands get rough. Plus, protects the tiles from oil stains from your skin.

hey brittany, can i seal them with three coats before theyre laid? my contractor doesnt want to seal them and i told him i would do it myself. thx for the info!

Yes, you can. All cement tiles have to be sealed. Some come with one layer of sealant, but you really need several layers.

No, I followed the manufacturer's recommendations. Instructions may vary depending on the tile manufacturer.

A lot of tiles can be slippery when wet, does cement tile get slippery if there is a spill of water?

No, these were not slippery at all. But, I've heard some of the lookalike porcelain and ceramic ones with a glaze can be slippery.

Great video. Cement Tile from www.thebuilderdepot.com. This is one of the best "How to Video's" I have seen. It also demonstrates about 3 mins in how to check if the product is sealed correctly and not simply "Guess". The same method and technique can be applied to any porous product that needs sealing.
