But on the off-chance that you do see this, I have a question. I want to do a faux marble floor technique throughout my house. The problem is the concrete is NOT super smooth. Does this apply to sloped floors for curbless showers? I have installed my mudbed with a slope, but there are several hills and valleys that I missed when I put the hardpack down. Before I Redguard, how important is it to get a smooth surface devoid of hills and valleys and could self-leveling compound help to fill in the valleys without losing my slope?

Plumber said I can just put the dirt back in the hole and don't need gravel, is he right? is there any benefit to gravel over dirt? appreciate any insight.

Thinking about doing some kind of vinyl or laminate in my basement, which is currently carpeted. I can tell there is a floor drain under the carpet. Do I lay the vinyl right over it? Or cut a hole in the vinyl to let the drain be exposed? Although it is a basement we have zero water issues. I'm worried about getting the flooring to lay properly if the floor slopes toward the drain.

Inspired by your channel, i started remodeling a small bathroom. I have a question about the shower drain replacement. The bathroom is on the first floor, walk-in shower, tile over concrete. There is an existing pvc pipe, connected to a pvc piece in the concrete. How do I replace the drain head? Any new drains are large and can’t figure out how to install??? Do I need to chip the concrete to expose the pipe? Is there an easier way to just install a drain cover? Thanks for the help and advice.

My house is built on a slab (common in California) but the living room as tiles and carpet (weird!). Quick question for you. I just bought 450 square feet of 6x24 porcelain plank tile to lay in my basement. After pulling up the carpet I noticed a couple high spots and that's what got me looking into self leveling. I then noticed that people are saying I can not apply this to painted concrete and mine is. The option I'm see I have is to rent a larger grinder and then go for the self leveler. Is this my only option?

I've been watching so many of your KZfaq videos as I'm prepping to remodel our powder room that's 25 sqft. Thanks for making such great and informative videos! Regarding self leveling concrete specifically, I'm in a situation where I'm contemplating pouring an inch plus worth of SLC over the concrete slab and then ditra over it for my porcelain tiles. I ripped up 1.5 inch worth of plywood due to rot. The previous owner had raised the entire bottom floor of the house by ~1.5 inch off of the concrete slab, so I'd like to keep the bathroom at least close to the same level as the rest of the 1st floor. My question is: are there any special considerations I need to be aware of if I were to do this? Does it matter if it's quick set? I was planning on using Mapei Self Leveler Plus. Do I need to leave space between the SLC and the walls for expansion? And should I put something around the closet flange so the SLC doesn't leak down the gap around it? Thanks so much and keep up the good work!

Hi, thanks for all the great videos! I am trying to troubleshoot what went wrong with my self leveling job. So to fix it properly! Hoping you can help! It's in a basement, I cleaned thoroughly, applied primer (used Mapei products) and followed the instructions when mixing and applying ciment. BUT! at drying, the edges of the floor and 2 corners of the room, the self leveler didn't adhere and felt hollow. I went with a hammer this morning and took out all the faulty/loose ciment. Ok so far, but it seems stupid to repeat as before... The only thing I can think of that could be wrong is that the original floor is covered in what seem to be epoxy. Corners ans edges are pretty glossy. I can see that the primer didn't stick there. I'm thinking OK now what. Different primer? Scor the surface. Arg!

Hey Jeff subscriber and I'm doing a concrete job using floor leveler for the first time. My problem is a crack down the middle of the room. It had been patched by a previous owner. Well I thought well I'll just pour the leveler on either side of the crack all the way to the Walls. I did only half of the room. But after it dried, and I put the level to it. It didn't seem to be any better on being level. My question is, should I try to sand down the crack, which by the way is around 1/4 of a inch higher than the surrounding floor. Or just maybe place 2 by 2 around the Walls. And pour the whole room. I've purchased my vinal plank already, and it has the pad on the bottom. Pretty nice stuff. I could use some help! Thanks and keep those videos coming.

I tried an entire room (12.5'x15') using self leveling compound for the first time ever. The room was super uneven and I ended up using 9 bags and once dried it's still uneven. I'm not sure how that's even possible but very unhappy with my work. Have you ever had to do a room and found yourself going back for another layer?

You said that you would try to post things we ask about. I had no idea that it would happen so fast! I asked about using a floor leveler yesterday! Great presentation as always. I will check if Magpi products are available in the US. If you have any videos about how to deal with wooden floors that have peaks (not many) rather than valleys, I would like to see those. I would rather repair than replace the wooden floors on my hundred-year-old house.

This video was produced weeks ago and was sitting in the Q. You just got lucky with that one. But seriously we love to get ideas. Cheers!

Hey Jeff, Really enjoy the channel. I have two bathrooms that are separated by a 2x4 framed wall. I have installed a plywood subfloor but my floor has about a 1/2” dip in the middle spanning both bathrooms. Should I pour self leveler before or after drilling through the base plate of the wall for plumbing? With the wall already in place I assume the self leveler will seep under the base plate and perhaps up onto the base plate. Any tips are appreciated.

Great video. I'm wondering if you have any advice for a basement needing fill of just over three inches at one end. The room space is 12'x12' with a gentle slope to one corner (away from the walls) to where a drain was placed. The basement had drain tile placed and is dry. We would like to have type of laminate wood flooring installed. I was initially thinking of placing sleepers to make up the space but seeing your video made me think some type of leveling compound would work. The problem is the depth needed to fill as most self-leveling compounds are for a depth of around one inch. Do you have any advice? Thank you for all the wonderful videos.

We need to level our basement floor but we painted it about 5 years ago. Do we need to strip the paint? Our only concern with doing that is we painted over the 1950's tile adhesive and we've been told it may contain lead or carcinogens. Using a stripper may release this material could it not? Do we have to strip the paint or could we take our chances and level over the paint?

Jeff, my son's house is about 80 years old and the concrete floor in the basement has settled. Is it okay to use self leveler to bring one side up level to the other side? If the floor is more than an inch or so out, would you recommend using some kind of plywood or concrete backer board to help make up the difference in height? Love watching your videos. You definitely make everything look easy. Thank you.

Hi!! I really enjoy renovations! I have a question, can self-leveling concrete be used as a "concrete look" finish?

Not by itself since it sands easily, If you want to experiment you could try using a sealer, just make sure you understand that each batch will have a different color due to the water variance when mixing.

Great video! Two questions for you! Does the concrete need to be fully cured before you can use a floor leveler? If the floors are relatively level should I just tile over my existing concrete patch? A majority of the floor is all in great shape.
