Great vid. If your Ford small block application needs to run a mechanical fuel pump, don’t forget to install the fuel pump eccentric that shares the same bolt as the cam sprocket bolt. And make sure if the timing chain set is compatible with a one or two piece eccentric.

Hello my friend, can I ask you a question, I can tell, you know what are you talking about, I have a 1997 mercury mountaineer 5.0 liters, V-8, do you think the procedure it's the same like this guy is showing on this video, i have a feeling my timing chain got loose inside and don't start anymore, as I was driving on the road and the car just caught off on me, and it won't start anymore, at first I thought it was a crank sensor I saw no spark at the coilpacks, I replaced it and no luck, so I think the timing chain broke down on me, any thoughts, in advance, sincerely appreciate.

To anyone that puts a new timing chain and gears in a motor, soak you're chain in oil for hour. I NEVER put a dry chain on. The oil needs to soak into all the link pins. And make sure you put oil on you're new front seal also.

Wondering if you ever heard that before I’m researching and can’t find it. Also I just bought this gt I know it has a aftermarket cam not sure which one but I was wondering if using the different key ways same as moving distributor?

Timing... Back in the day 4* advance was suppose to be the best for stock HO cam. As a chain breaks-in the cam looses 2+* of timing. I've measured it. I never knew if the 4 was to compensate for the wear, or an actual running amount desired. If so, setting up a new set at 6* adv instead of straight up would be necessary. Any info about this? 🔔👍😎😎

Hello, nice video. I think it was 2003 and I didn't use the internet or KZfaq for help. My question is, I did the timing chain kit on a 1986 Ford Bronco. I didn't know anything about marks that needed to be aligned. I just unbolted and took off and did the reverse to put back together. My Bronco started right up and ran fine for about 9 months until I traded it in for a new Ford F-150. Do you really need to align the marks? I did this with my Chevy Aveo, marks were aligned, but I destroyed my engine when it came time to start. What gives?

I'm hoping you can help me out here... I have an 87 Mustang GT my brother and I rebuilt the engine for. It's got heads/cam/ intake. I bought the same timing chain you have here. We put the motor together and the timing is running best at around thirty degrees, rather than the usual10-14 degrees. So, IMO, we lined up the wrong dots on the timing chain... does that sound like the problem to you? Our confusion is that the cam we have... a Lunati 51014 cam. It has 4 degrees built into the cam... so we struggle to figure out what marks to line up with this cam. Any advice?

Great video, but one thing, you prolly shoulda mentioned the eccentric goes on there if you have a mechanical fuel pump. Don't ask me how I know... :)

You skipped the whole snapping the bolts flush with the water pump while removing it. Happened on 3 separate 5.0s. Ford you dropped the ball on this one. 20 year old, 5 inch long steel studs through an aluminum housing...

Advancing or retarding the timing has nothing to do with the compression what so ever and the last thing you need to do is take a hammer to the cam gear. It needs to be installed by hand so you know it has set in place correctly

A little constructive criticism....CHANGE THE MUSIC!!! It actually comes close to drowning you out and sounds more like a porn flick than an instructional video. The content and step by step detailed instructions were on point, Easy to follow and great for someone like me who has never attempted anything like this until now. So kudos on that but seriously due something different with the background music. Less is more the ol saying goes.

+granadojl it's just so the crankshaft doesn't spin while he's tightening down the cam gear. Actually, I think using the crescent wrench this way is a lot better than using large channel locks on the crank pulley, like most people do. What's a better way, if you don't mind me asking?
