Beautiful job looks amazing. I build pools for a living in florida. Pebble tec is the only thing that i use. However i do have 1 question about the job. During the prep of the pool i seen it was hydro blasted to remove the old interior. Do you guys not have to use a bond kote before interior is applied.?

Just a suggestion, have pool cleaned and ready prior to the pebble install. It makes their lives much easier. They don't need to be fiddle faddling. Its a good thing that pebble is more forgiving, the chip out is horrible. I hope the finished product bonded. Years and years to learn ? Start with chip-out crew , show them how to do it properly. After I finish knocking of the high areas, I then broom it down and shovel out all the extra chips. Then wash wash it down and pump out all water. Then I schedule the pebble installation. Pebble looked nice.

Excellent video! We are going with Stonescapes aqua white mini pebble with Puerto Rico blend. I had a hard time finding any pics of actual NPT glass beads. Am I missing something, or is there a place where you can see pics of actual beads? It would be nice to see all of the options to be able to decide on the recipe I want. Alternatively, would you just pick the colors based on the jewelscapes pics for bead selections??

Awesome work. What does the home owner do after it has been applied? Brush it for how many days and how often? Any other suggestions? I just had my pool done in Long Beach. It was hard to find a company to schedule us in. We also used NPT for the tile and pebble tec. Thank you in advance!
@UltimatePoolGuy3 жыл бұрын
usually the company that installed the finish will do the "new pool start up procedure"...and balance the chemistry and return the pool to the homeowner ready for maintenance
@UltimatePoolGuy3 жыл бұрын
otherwise it is brush everyday until there is no more plaster dust and get the filter serviced and the chemistry balanced
@ed.t.hansen64995 жыл бұрын
is there base or sub base to attach this to if removing old tiles , sand and grout taht was there. Any adhesive or plastering or it should go on a clean; smooth; Non sandy surface that is breaking apart from old tiles ?
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
the surface for the tile needs to prepped and smooth...this is done with a diamond cup wheel on an angle grinder...then the base is prepped with rapid set so it is nice and smooth
@jimkline62856 жыл бұрын
wow so is that all glass beads, or a mixture of glass and pebble, also what's all over the Gunite it's kinda tan color, the old plaster? ,
@UltimatePoolGuy6 жыл бұрын
after the chip out of the old plaster there are random chunks left stuck to the shell...this is normal and the rough surface lends itself to a higher bond strength...we add some pebble to the mix in increase overall bond strength in the mix...the glass alone is not enough and we get too much material "fall out"...hope this helps you out =)

We're building a pool in AZ and I was wondering if we can simply buy extra beads and have the guys add it to the mix when they show up or do you have to buy it all together due to the plaster ratio?
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
hello sir thanks for writing in...that is sort of a loaded question yes in theory you can run out and purchase extra bags of whatever, glass bead, pebble, crushed abalone for accent purposes...however yes these are mixed in proportion to each other and ratios are followed, at least on my jobs, I would consult your builder or whomever is doing the work before making a purchase and let them know what it is that you would like to see done...at least this way whatever you purchase will suit your project also in the video you can see a sample pallet that we made and showed the client so that they can select the ratio that looks good to them...all of my jobs are custom blends so each project and ratio is different from the previous hope this helps
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
I guess what I was trying to say is that I would hate to see you run out and buy material and on the day of job it is not installing well...or looking right...these are logistics that we have sorted out prior
@bcgrote2 жыл бұрын
I guess we'll just have a huge crew for 16x40 12 ft deep pool... in July... Do you use the house water supply for spraying or just filling? We have 1 spigot in the back and not great water pressure.

the filling process is time sensitive and important run as many bibs as possible to the pool for filling and 1 continuous fill without interruptions so long hoses from the front etc..

I also specialise in pool surface application and have done so for 40 years in Sydney, Australia. Its good to see how its done on the otherside of the world but have to let you guys know your application procedure is very primitive. Pool looks good when full of water but to the trained eye the finish is very patchy and wouldnt pass with most Sydney pool builders. There are ways to do this finish using much less men (4 guys would do this on my crew), no need to plastic the surrounds and exposing needs to be done using a gernie/pressure washer. There are obviously more tricks to the trade which i cant disclose but a heads up there is a much quicker, better and easier way to do this. Good Luck!
@KoiAquaponics5 жыл бұрын
I agree, pressure washing would've probably been much better than the acid bath. It exposes more of the aggregates.

Question regarding pricing: Can you ballpark/guestimate on differences in price. I've always heard pebble tec is more expensive than replastering, is it and by how much? Regular replaster/Pebble and/or glass? Thank you, love your videos and your work.
@UltimatePoolGuy4 жыл бұрын
hello thank you for writing in i can break down a sample project like this white plaster 4,500 grey plaster 5,000 pebble finish 6750 glass finish 8500 approximate costs... our glass finish pools do have some pebble in the mix to increase bond strength and help with a condition we call material fall-out which is a problem with 100% glass mixes also the overall costs of each job are ultimately defined by the linear footage around the work area and the end finish product the client selected darker colors are usually more $$ hope this guideline of costs is helpful

Hello thank you very much for writing in and taking a look at some of our work finishing an entire swimming pool structure with a tile finish is extremely expensive extremely labor-intensive and meticulous work we simply do not see that very much anymore these days and that level of work is usually reserved for lavish pool builds where it is obvious that a large sum of money has been spent With all of that said in order for a tile finish swimming pool to not look boring patterns or geometric shapes are often times inter laid into the tile work itself Aside from being extremely expensive and time-consuming the actual process of laying the tiles and completing that work is not very different from regular swimming pool waterline tile or tile work or tile installation in general

Gorgeous job here! I just had Diamond Brite French Gray done in my pool and it looks like hell. It's all streaked and spotted. I even have shoe prints in the bottom of the pool. The sales guy says that's normal. Bullshit. Don't get you pool done by Callahan Pool plastering in West Chester, Pa. And we looked at three other pools they did and their's looks worse.
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
hello thank you for writing in...sorry to hear that you are having a bad experience...with colored plaster finishes that are not pebble or glass...so French grey, sea foam green, etc...colors with plaster...it is common for me to offer to my clients an acid wash somewhere around the 30 day mark so that the plaster has had time to cure...drain the pool and acid wash at that time can eliminate some of these issues and make the most of your colored finish...it seems redundant but is effective...any blemishes are exaggerated due to the contrast from the pigmentation hope that this helps=)
@drrhelms545 жыл бұрын
Only problem is we say another person's pool that had the same problem. They got theirs acid washed and now it looks like black cement. And I'm now exaggerating!
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
I hear you...for the streaking, spotting, and boot marks the only corrective measure is an acid wash...you can try having your pool service run high chlorine to bleach things out & hydration from being full of water sometimes helps I never like to recommend legal action however if you feel you have received poor craftsmanship you can always request to have your job re-done or ask for a refund...both of which is commonplace

How much glass should I add to pebble sheen blue granite finish? I want enough to make it really pop.
@UltimatePoolGuy Жыл бұрын
This is difficult work and I would write this work extremely difficult issue attempting to do this yourself There is such a thing as one hundred percent glass finish pools And they're also is not a set specific ratio And you can also hand broadcast the glass beads when you're in your final steps for accents and a more personalized finish If you're working with a contractor I can recommend asking him for recommendations or to see samples In this video that you're commenting on there's a portion of the video where I take you through my sample process where I showed you the samples that I laid out for the client to arrive at these results I hope all this helps

Is glass more durable or as durable as pebble? And is it more expensive than pebble in general?

glass is in the same tier of finishes as pebble and yes its more expensive to work with

How much does something like that cost? Pool is 19,000 gallons. 11x16 feet, 6 1/2 feet deep and 4 ft

The overall bottom line is going to be dictated by your choice of color as well as choice of blend we rarely you will use 100% glass beads as we experienced a great deal of material Fallout so we will blend the glass beads with complimenting colors in Pebble the pebble helps to increase the bond strength and reduce material Fallout for example we could use a 50/50 blend of glass and Pebble or an 80/20 blend of glass and pebble
@UltimatePoolGuy4 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking if you multiply your linear footage by $82 up to $88 a linear foot this helps get you somewhere in the Spectrum bottom line costs It is common for me to offer a bundle package deal with other work that we are doing such as tile installation and some other custom work I can then start trimming down costs here and there to put together something competitive and tight to the client

Curious, I'm doing a pool for a customer now, 1205sf interior finish. She chose Premix Midnight Blue, I wanted to add glass beads as an extra accent but installer talked me into abalone shell. Could I have broadcasted glass beads into Premix Quartz finish? Thanks for any reply, Jenn
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
hello...crushed abalone is a nice choice for accent and bling effect...yes you could have hand broadcasted just like you see in our video however we are almost always doing it when we are dealing with a base mix that is already glass or pebble respectively throughout...I think the advise for abalone was sound and a color quartz finish with crushed abalone is a very nice finished product, hope this helps

I wished I had someone that would actually help me figure out a basic recipe for plaster color and glass beads to go in or on plaster. I am going to roll on the plaster and spread it down with a rubber lined trowel or 10” rubber edge lined big putty trowel. I did not even realize how damn big or surface area my pool is. I can’t afford to buy slide Crete or the other roll on plaster. There just had to be a cheaper way to buy plaster abs ore measure everything myself. Slider mix said I hv to roll a rough base coat down first and that would cost me 800.00, did not know I needed that rough first coat, then I needed 2 layers of Sider Crete, and I would need a total of 64 bags of sider Crete plus the glass beads I hv no idea how many bags. My pool is kidney shaped and 34 feet long widest across is 19 feet across, shortest across is 12 feet across, middle measurement across is 14 feet across, deep end is 8’ deep, shallow end is 4 feet deep inbetween deep end and shallow end depth is aporox 6’ deep, I’m coming up with 1,230 sq feet approx. can anyone help me, my job I lost due to locked the doors not telling anyone and owing me a months of salary, I’m really freaking screwed, hv wife and kids granddaughters depending on me to get this pool done for them to go swimming. I’m freaking so stressed out I don’t know squat about pool plaster, I power washed all the old paint that woukd come off with power washer for 14 hours, acid washed it real good I have 1/2 of the waterline tile put up and using Laticrete 254 platinum mortar, 6” tile, so far looks great, filling cracks with the mortar as I find them, the original gunite or plaster has come off down to cement in a lot of spots I recoat Bare spots with mortar. My granddaughters think I’m Superman, I cannot let them down whatever I do. Please someone with experience please reach out to me with a simple recipe or cheaper way to buy and mix my roll on plaster. It sucks I feel helpless being broke, never in 62 years of my life hv I been this broke or not able to but what I need to redo a project pool company wanted 20,000 redo pool and tile, cheapest was 17,000. Been praying hard that someone will reach out to me and let me in on a pool industry secret I won’t tell a soul, just need to know best plaster I can use abs how to mix it do I put glass beads in while mixing plaster? As well color or powdered dye to make colored tile wife is wanting the blue medium gray water tint every company has their own name for the color, but it’s blue water color with a gray color to it really pretty color water. Please hopefully the man upstairs will push someone to help me or tell me a cheap but great product plaster I can buy that’s cheaper than sider Crete r pool patch roll on plaster, my faith is strong so far. Praying more tonight thanks anyone and GOD bless you whoever you are.

I found dyes, I need a cheap ass plaster that I mix up abs roll on line sider Crete or pool patch. I gotta have nearly 60 bags of that shit, 3,300.00 I do t have that plus I gotta hv 800.00 worth of roll on rough coat base coat so total of nearly 4,000.00 plus tools, which is hell of a lot cheaper than 25,000 but 50.00 is a hell of a lot if you ain’t got it. Ya know lol. My pool is so damn big I wanted to cover it up and make a rotator garden out of it but wife said no. Andwith her body she has I keep her happy lol I did not realize it was so big but surface area is little over 1,350 square feet surface area. 58,000 gallons water. I really need some help in a bad way, I’m usually the one helping everybody else, all my friends, I sent 3 really close friends thru 4 years of college, one 6 years, and not a one of them has. Asked checked on me asked about my knee or if things are going good nothing. But I shouldn’t bitch about that really, or I shoujd’nt hv paid for their schools. But I need a good plaster that I can dye that is cheaper I am going to add polished glass to plaster also or throw it into plaster after I roll it on. There has to be a plaster that’s cheaper than sider Crete, they started off with plaster too. But anyways thanks for the dye Info. I just don’t know enough about pool plaster to figure out what exactly it is I need. But I don’t want to paint it I know that that’s why I am dying it. Roll it on thick, throw on some polished glass, take rubber lined trowel, smooth it down, let cure fir 24 hours put another layer on, trowel down smooth, let cure fir 3 days, fill with water, I’m nearly done with water line tile now about half way done. The. I don’t know I guess just fill with water I don’t hv money for plaster right now

What is your mix design? What goes into the mix?
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
regular plaster mix with color as base + and then it is a custom blend of pebble and glass, usually whatever has been agreed upon prior to the job starting + then we will usually had broadcast some accent on the top as the job is developing in the video you see us tossing glass as the accent, crushed abalone is also popular but more common on a pebble only application
@tom26595 жыл бұрын
UltimatePoolGuy do you just use plain cement with pebbles or add sand too? What ratios?
@UltimatePoolGuy5 жыл бұрын
The plaster base is white sand and white cement any color pigmentation added is added in a specific ratio specific and particular to that color pigmentation

plaster over gunite; then the glass beads or pebbles go on this ? how to know my contractor does it right ? No standards here !!! How much plaster; how thick the bead material ? Looks great when done. some call it pebbles but actually glass beads. Priscina HD looking material . I am concerned about plaster over my old sand and whats left from old tiles.

The pebble or glass bead is mixed in on the plaster truck in the batch maker it is a uniform part of the plaster job sometimes we will hand apply glass bead for accent purposes during the job you may see some of this type of hand broadcasting in the video
