I have some aftermarket led fog lights with halo ring. My led fog light bulbs glow just once in a while after turning vehicle off. I bought a load resistor to stop that issue. My question is where should I connect the resistor, to the black wire or red from the bulb socket?

I don't see how this would add any resistance to the circuit unless you install it in series. The power will still follow the path of least resistance to the bulb and back through ground.

what is the purpose of tapping into the ground wire in the socket? why not just ground the resistor with the screw that you're going to use to mount it to the body?
