I've used this method (adding tree limbs and debris in the bottom) years ago. Late in the year and during the winter, it settled about 6 inches. The following year I had to add about a third more topsoil to compensate. It does create a nice foundation and aerated soil.

Isn’t this basically like the Hügelkultur method? It’s a very smart and eco friendly way to garden.

Very nice! Funny intro 😂I can't believe you dragged all of that stuff outside 😂 those raised beds are nice, and the height might keep the critters from eating your crop and easy on the back!

I’ve seen other KZfaqrs using this same type of garden bed. It seems to be popular. Lasting much longer than a typical wooden raised bed.

Based on what I see in my neighborhood, these beds definitely hold up better than wood ones. Wood still lasts a long time, but they do look worn down after years.

Please don’t use a rototiller when you’re barefoot!! I’d hate for you to lose a toe. And then you would have to blur out bloody footage for KZfaq. 😂

I used to zone push and overwinter cold-sensitive ornamental plants in a passively heated attic. They were planted in Behrens galvanized bushels. The galvanized bushels that spent the growing season outside but above ground lasted many years. The ones that were buried in the ground for the growing season would rust and form holes after a few years. YMMV...

We just renovated our cheap, wooden garden bed with this brand and are happy so far! We also put in olla pots in the center of each square plot. You should look into it and maybe test to see if they're worthwhile!

Hey Matt! Thanks for posting this. I know posting outdoor content on an indoor growing channel is sometimes a total no-no (I've tried it and my video tanked and the algorithm hated me for 2 months, lol.) I really enjoyed it, though! I've seen the Birdies beds with the rounded corners that *certain* outdoor gardening YT channels push pretty heavily, but I've never heard of these guys - they look pretty sweet. 👌 Also appreciate the tip about the depth - I don't have the space for these beds in my current setup (I use containers primarily in my front yard that gets the most light), but in our next place I'll definitely take that to heart before I engage in buying/installing some of these buggers. Good luck with your veggies, maybe throw down some liquid fertilizer (e.g. Fox Farm "Grow Big") because I didn't see you add any soil amendments! 😉

I wonder if you will group the plants with their NPK needs; all nitrogen plants in one plot, phosphorus plants in another, etc.
@TechplantChannel
@TechplantChannel 2 ай бұрын
That's far more advanced than I've attained as far as outdoor gardening. I can try that in thr future. I have grown plots of beans in order to fix nitrogen into the ground. But there is a lot I gotta learn yet
@--Paws--
@--Paws-- 2 ай бұрын
@@TechplantChannel I got the idea from a game called Vintage Story. In it the crops are categorized in their NPK needs. The idea is for the player to later on rotate what they grow in the soil so it will not be nutrient deficient.
@nackedgrils9302
@nackedgrils9302 2 ай бұрын
Pretty much all plants require NPK at different levels depending on what stage of growing they're at, there are no Nitrogen plants or Phosphorus plants, this is just silly. Some crops require more of a nutrient than others and some crops do better with no fertilizer at all, oddly enough. I don't think that growing nitrogen-fixing plants is relevant at this level either, just learn how to make good compost and buy a couple of organic soil amendments for your most demanding crops. I'm quite a fan of vermicompost (expensive if you don't make it yourself) and dolomitic lime and then I just buy a pre-made organic fertilizer adapted to my crop and where it's at. It's extremely simple, Nitrogen will stimulate foliage growth, so you give most of it in the beginning of the season, Phosphorus stimulates root growth but also flowering so it's great to add when transplanting but also until mid-season and then Potassium will help your fruits ripen, so it's most important to use it once some fruit have initiated.

I don't know how these will turn out but I couldn't help but notice that you buried almost all of your plants too deep when you planted them. The soil line should be at the exact same level than it was in the pot, the only exception to this rule that I know of is with tomato plants, you can bury them as deep as you feel like but you have to remove all the leaves that would end up buried beforehand because they're going to rot. When you do that with a tomato plant, you can even rub some rooting hormone onto the leaf scars that you've just created and these will all shoot roots, so you'll end up with a much faster growing plant.
@TechplantChannel

I usually bury stuff deep so it cant fall over, this top soil is more of a potting mix so i think it will breath well but who knows, Ill do an update and it will be interesting to see how it goes!
