I have a dash camera with the front facing camera on the car mirror. But the view isn't good because of the of the the plastic around the car mirror so I have ordered a dash cam with separate front camera but the mounting on a mirror like your showing is a good idea Brilliant video 👍🇬🇧

You're welcome Lord Baelish! glad to hear it helped! yeah I really think using a professional installer is in most cases worth it, both since they have already done the install in many vehicles so they have tons of practice but also you don't have to do any of the work or bend yourself into uncomfortable positions for the install (once I even sliced my finger, and I do this often but I'm like yep anything can happen on an install, let the installer slice his finger instead of you! I would have the installer check the connections, something may not be plugged in all the way, the other possibility is that the cable was damaged during the installation or the cable arrived defective (if the dash cam system was fully tested before installation we can eliminate this last one) Hope this helps and please let us know what they find. I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue Select with a factory backup camera & display. I will be installing a G840S . Do you just leave the factory installed backup camera circuit alone , and install this G840S separately ? I want to use the hardwire kit you mention to enable the parking mode. Love your vids ! They are very informative and useful !

Hi sokan1947! I think the best dash cam depends on what you are looking for in a dash cam. I run different ones on my cars so what I usually tell people looking for the right dash cam for them is to start by picking the style of dash cam (Mirror or classic stick). Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality (I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare). I just began working on a video to compare my top picks for different categories, stay tuned, Cheers!

great videos as always...but i'd love to see what kind of a view you get from the display with the camera mounted inside the car...in this video it looks like the lens it mounted behind the rear defrost wires...doesnt that impede the view ? do u have a video that shows what kind of a display you are receiving with that kind of a mount ?

Hi Janne! ah is like you knew what I was working on! lol I'm actually working on a video showing the differences and while part of it just personal preference, there are some cases where it has to be mounted in specific locations (such as any regulation on your state regarding placement of the camera or for example if your car has window tint or not can affect the decision on mounting location etc.)..

I already ordered a hudway device and will add new mirror dash also based on your reviews.. funny you mention regulations... just having some legal problems because I moved to Germany and got stopped by the police. My Camaro is 50 years old and passes the inspection in Finland, but the German system is different. Now I am in a situation I have a foreign, though EU car sometimes in Germany and the local police might fine me for tax evasion next time they stop me here.. trying to find ways to solve it, but while this situatlion is pending my motivation on the project is not too high.. won't drive my car here now anyways.. Modifying car can sometimes be quite hard and there might be other surprices on your way than just rust 😀

Ah yes so far I have not had the need to use extension cables on the installs I done, that being said I only done cars, SUV's and Vans (I think the trick to it is that I go the shortest route as far as routing the cables go, both to reduce labor time and also to minimize the need for an extension). I actually always end with quite a bit of extra cable that I to hide LOL but I would suppose that an extension would be needed for Large trucks and other extra long vehicles (very likely that one won't be needed for the Traverse). Thank you so much! I since found it, but much appreciated! I just bought a 2023 Promaster with no rear view mirror at all, just a big plastic housing with no big bolt, no mirror button, nothing to install a rear view to at ALL. I saw a video of a guy who cracked his windshield trying to get a housing off so I dont even want to attempt it. I’m stuck until dealer’s body shop opens tomorrow to ask them what the heck I’m supposed to do.

I’m trying to install a direct mount for my wolfbox but my vehicle has a high beam assist looking camera connected to the mirror. Will disconnecting the mirror give me problem? I don’t really use the high beam assist anyways

You're welcome Mr. Boniato! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9GpbMKludzbfZc.html The connector type used for power will depend on the dash cam model being installed (they have different connectors, some use USB connectors, some use circular connectors and some use a propriety one). This video is primarily focused on the running the cables for the dash cam install process. This car is outfitted with multiple hardwire kits since I run 2 dash cams for redundancy, each one uses a different hardwire kit. Hope this helps, Cheers!

At the end of the rear camera install there is a red wire that shows up attached to the black wire that you are pulling through the grommet hole. What is this wire for?

Hi MyNicePC! good question man, typically this is negligible on dash cams as far as performance since the USB connector is normally used for power delivery instead of data (and the few cases where is used for video, the interface is never close to being maxed out as dash cams use AHD instead of normal data transfer protocols) Even for cycling (disconnecting and connecting) Mini USB is rated at minimum of 5K cycles, USB C is rated at a minimum of 10K cycles which we never come close to reaching as normally the dash cam is not being connected and disconnected like a cell phone would for example, hope this makes sense bud!

@@AlexAutoFun Absolutely man!. But since the cables are almost never disconnected what about performance? I am leaning towards USB type-C just because Most devices now a days are at least recording at 20fps. Don't know if mini USB will do very good in the long haul since the cables are kinda old for today's high demanding resolutions... I am trying to buy something that will last at 4 years. Before I get a new car.

@@TigerOscar78 Remember dash cams use AHD (Analog High Definition) to send the video signal, AHD only requires 2 wires to do so (the USB cable is not used as a normal USB cable using the USB protocol, dash cams only use 2 wires of the USB cable to send AHD, think of the old school connection to our VCRs, how it was coaxial cable to send video) This is the reason why USB C does not yield better performance on dash cams yet. AHD still using just 2 wires regardless of the USB cable being used. However it is possible in the future we will see a new standard come out for Dash Cams once the limits of AHD are reached (from what I'm hearing in the industry, we actually may go wireless all together!) hope this helps bud!

Hi sinn_! This would depend on the Brand of dash cam your are using, most are meant for DYI install but I always recommend professional installation (specially if the dash cam you got requires it for warranty purposes, rare but there are some out there) Hope this helps, Cheers!

@@AlexAutoFun Great, because we travel on dirt roads and our OEM outside cameras get caked in dirt/dust. Another question: Would pretty much any quality 4K hard wire kit work for this? I see this brand's hard wire kit is poorly rated. Is there any way to make the backup camera turn on when we put the car into reverse, or do we always have to puts the rear camera button? Is this still your best tested camera? If not, what do you recommend?

Hi Danilo! the mirror dash cam will show a mirrored view like a regular mirror does which includes flipped letters like a normal mirror creates (some emergency vehicles have mirrored text on them so it can be read correctly when seen thru a mirror, if the image is not mirrored that text won't be readable). However if you still want to flip the image some dash cams do let you disable that function. Hope this helps, Cheers!

@@daniloconde1428 Hi Danilo! ah that is a different option, the one I mentioned earlier is called "Mirrored View" but flipping the view from left to right is different, it's called Horizontal flip, it can be turned on and off on most dash cams. Hope this helps, Cheers!
