The two things I was thinking about, you did also think of. Awesome! One was cleaning the years of dust and grime from the aluminum heating fins? That build up might lower their already low efficiency and ability to transfer heat to the air. Not to mention the gross facter of warming up years of old skin cells (dust), oils, possibly even some old bug poop, dead spiders or insects, hair, dirt, etc, etc.... Might, later even spray the vacuumed fins with a dusinfecting spray ck CLeaner too? We do that with all our cold aie returns and resgisters whenever I change the furnace filter, useually 2-3 times a year. The secind thing, you got too, was the damaged fins. You straughten them some, great. But did you know they also have low-cost fin combs to straighten the bent or dented fins to improve efficency? We like this video, glad you replaced the old covers vs refinishings the old ones. That just made your remodel look even better.

Thank you for this simple explanation of how to replace your baseboard heater covers. I have some old, rusty in some places and bent covers I would like to replace and this was perfect for me. Some of my baseboard covers are right up against the wall and some are up against 1 x baseboards. Also, they 'punched' through the wall to continue the run from room to room in some areas and ran it down under the house in the crawl space in others. The tip about the heater sealant was new to me, I'll look for that to finish off the job when I'm done.

I repainted an entire three bedroom house back in my heavy DIY days. It had those big wraparound baseboard hot water radiators just like that one. I had never seen them before. Painting them all was an adventure! (If you do end up moving, I bet you have tripled the value of your house. It’s as much a new house as an old house could become). Beautiful work, Matt!

Have never seen this style of radiator before but in the UK hot water heating is common (near universal) and generally each radiator will have a thermostatic valve to set individual room temperatures or shut individual radiators off. I think one would fit under that end cap, installing one would obviously mean opening up the system though.

Awesome video!!! Getting ready to install new ones in my bathroom, I do have a question for you. I have an inside corner to deal with, should I run each back piece right to the corner or leave some space? I need to install a 4' piece and a 2' piece. From inside corner to end of my pipes are 50 inches and 26 inches so I'm a bit confused. Will my inside corner cover make up the difference if I leave a space to make up the difference?

You encouraged me to cancel the contractor - that first wanted to "look at" what I wanted done ($$$ for him) and I already returned from the store with the same brand you had ironically. The old baseboard was so disgusting --- cat hair and everything else -- and I haven't had those three cats in 6 years! I spent the past 6 weeks removing old wallpaper and priming 3 coats over the top painted ugly green - then 2 coats of beautiful cream with a hint of yellow (only on sunny days) so I was not going to leave that old baseboard heater with all that work I did. I will do this job first thing in the morning starting with a 3 footer in my closet before the bedroom heater which is 8 feet. I love your tip about the fins --- my carpet store owner said to do this first; but I always also thought it should sit on top of the carpet or flooring. I built this house 38 years ago and carpet was the last thing installed. Your suggestion just makes much more sense. Thank you so much!!! I wouldn't cut away fins -- if the thermostat is down in kitchen it won't kick on if you have your damper closed and a window cracked open an inch or so...? P.S. when I told the contractor you 'helped' me with the installation and I'll do it on my own, he called before and said he just wants to stop by and "see" what I'm doing. I'll have him subscribe to your KZfaq! I don't need hinged end caps as for your purpose. They were the only ones the store had. Thank you so much. I love both your versions!

You mentioned you have a system and showed the corner of your heating unit to release air by the valve.. we often have a loud whistle noise that happens in the summer when we turn off the water to our sprinkler system. Would you do a clip on how to do that please and when it's necessary? I have that same corner valve and never knew what it was for just thought it was part of the system.

We just had a whole new system installed in an old house. Drywall is torn out in order to install new pex tubing and new baseboard heaters in the basement. The problem is they install the baseboard heaters directly to the bare wood studs before the drywall it was put back. This can’t be right? How do we replace drywall? Would you ever do it like this? Trying to get our installer to remedy, but they are ghosting us.

If you really don't want to drill or use concrete nails I suppose you could a couple dabs of construction adhesive on the back. I wouldn't go too crazy with it if you ever want to change it in the future. Less mess to chip off the wall. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Here in South Florida, we never have to use heat. Maybe we’ll turn on the central air heat in the morning just to take the chill off. And even at that, it’s only two or three times a year. You won’t find radiator heaters down here. Nice job, but irrelevant for me.
