man, I used to absolutely love the diff lock videos. it seems as though sponsors took over. It was all about affordable off-road, and sharing with friends. Now it's all about new products this, new that.

You actually can add a winch to the stock front bumper. There are many winch plate options for it, though I do agree that the stock front bumper is not ideal. The winch though... I have the same winch, and holy crap is it amazing. The amount of control it gives is crazy. Being able to disconnect and reconnect the clutch from a wireless remote and not go back and forth to the winch... just awesome. Hoping mine lasts me forever.

Tommy can you do a "day in the life" of owning and driving a 2-door jk wrangler now that you have done your off-road modifications? Many people buy the 4-door for its extra conveniences, but the 2-door is so classic. It would be great to see what your thoughts are day to day now that we've seen how capable the Jeep sport is off-road.

I have a 2015 Rubicon 2 door that is my daily driver. Basic thing is you need to pick cargo carrying or people. With the back seat in, there is very little space. The seat folds but does not lock so when folded it flops around. When in place, the back seat is reasonably roomy, though getting back there is a bit of a challenge. The BFG MTs make some nose on the highway but it is completely manageable, especially with a hard top. I wish the gas tank were bigger though. I'm happy with the mileage (around 18 overall, mostly highway) and don't expect better from something like this but the tank size means I buy gas twice during the week commuting to work.

Exactly. The JKU is very practical, can carry 5 adults + cargo/dogs. With a 2dr JK, I'd get a hitch extender and put some items that can be exposed to the outside... outside. The 2dr JK's are more nimble, but at this stage of my life it's JKU for me. I love them all, though, and drive the JK Rubicon's from Barlowe's when out in Sedona AZ, and they are amazing offroad and onroad.

looks good but I've never been a fan of best top products. especially that rear bumper no cutouts for integrated off-road lights. you should have lost those front Factory fog lights and upgraded them. and you put that winch on and you will be drawing more power you need to upgrade that battery. or go to a dual-battery setup
@Cobb

So about $500 for the front bumper, $850 for the rear and $1750 for the winch, plus tax and shipping cost. Starting to not feel like a budget off roading show anymore.

@Cobb
@Cobb 7 жыл бұрын
+XL1200C2004 it's not the affording part that's the problem, it's that it was better to me when it was the old 95 YJ and he was putting $50 light bars on and keeping the rig simple. If he keeps putting a bunch of tough heavy parts then it'll wind up being like every other jeep show, with an overbuilt JK.
@XLC-zd8dn
@XLC-zd8dn 7 жыл бұрын
+Cobb you'll notice he was just talking about "essential" equipment for solo off-roading. Sorry, $50 accessories won't cut it anymore.
@Cobb
@Cobb 7 жыл бұрын
Well yeah you need a winch and a bumper to mount it on, but there are options for $200-300 and obviously cheaper winches with the same rating. This show started as a budget off road show and I hope it stays in that direction. There's enough channels about full $20k builds for JKs.

That Winch is way overkill for a 2dr Sport. He'd have been more than fine with a $600 VR8. He's only using that expensive one because he got it for free from WARN.

@jedironin380
@jedironin380 7 жыл бұрын
I was going to say- Breaker Bar + *6-point* deep-well socket is the best way to get the lugs mostly tight and loosened. Use a Torque Wrench for final tightening. After I get the lug nuts loosened, I use an electric drill-driver to buzz them off, then on again. Saves all that spinning with a wrench or fingers. ;)
@lubbahubba
@lubbahubba 7 жыл бұрын
I saw the lug nut tightening and realized, WTF!! His ratchet handling skill was already suspect. This person shouldn't instruct or give advice to anyone. Yes, that wheel install is very dangerous! It's all fun and games until a subcriber's wheel falls off...on or off road. Liability anyone? I'm sure he's all read up on that $$ WARN winch though. First time viewer, last time viewer.
@ChipMautz
@ChipMautz 7 жыл бұрын
Umm, been doing that since HS, and haven't had a wheel fall off. However, I have experienced extremely loose lug nuts after visiting a national tire store. Tire stores, btw, don't use torque wrenches, they use air ratchets. And overtorque all the time. Everyone's a critic...

While do enjoy the vids wasn't the whole idea here suppose to be about affordable off-road fun ? You had a yj and that's a perfect example of a cheap yet fun offroad rig and you did cheap mods like the $40 light bar. Now you have a brand new jeep and your installing things like a $1700 winch. I'm confused why it's no longer budget friendly ??

Ran its corse ? You seemed to just have switched suddenly from a yj to a brand new jk. If you wanna hit a bunch of ghost towns that's fine but I think u should bring back the old yj. I would guess if it wasn't for your dad not many kids your age would be driving a jk. At the very least you should bring back your friends with there rigs to join you. You had a series that was relatable and affordable and suddenly switched to something that's not really affordable for the every day guy. Kinda disappointed this turned into something completely different from what it started as.
