Suggestion, tape down the sheet before tearing out the centre bit, helps keep it square. The side spot welds are easily removed by cutting the rib 150mm from the ends, taking out the main part and wiggling the last 150mm piece. Spray paint everywhere to make sure you coat everything, even the swarf you might have missed. Great video production.

Thanks mate. Good feedback on the spot welds. Removing the centre sheet was the trickiest part of the install.

28 minutes and you didn’t show the completion or final product, would have liked to have seen it done and for you to show how much space you actually get to see if it’s worth it.

Thanks mate. Bunnings and 3 of their 91cm x 91cm rubber mats ($75 for 3 when I purchased) They clip together and just trip as you need 👍 Alternatively search EBay for some mats designed for the Ranger tray but will be more expensive

Bit of a process but time and patience is the go. With panel bond, heating will soften the bond making easy to remove. Would it be easier to remove tailgate so you have easy access to each side. Another minor tip, set your drill bit as high in the chuck as possiable and put masking tape on paint to help grip and reduce chance of hitting rear panel. Drill the holes then remove the draw and clean the shavings out then perm fit. Fitting gas struts will make the drop tailgate easy when it’s full also there are kits available. Corrosion Sealing agent painted in the bottom of the inner tailgate would be ideal as I saw corrosion starting on the supports. What corrosion paint did you use on the edges?

Cheers for feedback 👍 Just an epoxy paint. Don’t believe there’s any rust - more likely some dust build up from previous trips.

Great install video but like the others have said, some finished up shots showing the overall fitment plus functionality would be good. Should be easy to cover in a follow up video or even a KZfaq short I guess. Does it handle a person sitting or standing on the tailgate now that the storage is installed? Tailgates are usually a seat or workbench whenever I’ve been out in a ute or 4wd. Also, does it handle pushing/dragging stuff over the lid into and out of the tray?
@Perth4WDandCamping

Thanks mate for feedback. Yes will cover off in upcoming vid and if you’re interested have included a bit more info on Facebook. I’ve used it to stand and sit on without any issues. Also good re dragging stuff over it. It will scratch however, therefore I might stick some marine carpet onto it in the future

I'd be interested to know how the tailgate static maximum weight is affected. I believe the standard Ranger tailgate is 450 pounds, but having removed some of the bracing I'm sure the amount would fall. I carry M/C's with the rear wheel on the tailgate. It now might collapse the storage unit lid? Any revised max. tailgate weight with the instructions?

Give yourself a day, but you could easily do it in an afternoon. The cutting is the bit you want to slow down for - lay out the template, go slow and take your time. The other main bit is the release rods and make sure the wiring is out the way and not getting pressed down but the storage unit. Other than that it’s pretty straight forward. The unit just drops straight in once you’ve done the above.

Those sparks you talk of stick to everything and rust not just glass that’s paintwork plastic tub liner lamp lenses. Bad to have have to bend supports frame as the panel outer will no doubt have witness marks if you looked across it when you have finish

@@Perth4WDandCamping OK, where do I start. I think it's a good system if you just want to tour around Australia and not do any hardcore 4WDing. All the screws constantly came loose and all the carpets peeled off in the interior. Dust was a big issue when there are multiple gaps due to corrugation (peninsula development Rd) on the road and the screws coming loose. Dust entered the tailgate locking mechanism jamming it which prevented me from opening it and I couldn’t get it open to access my recovery gear which I store in there. I had to get a hose (at Bramwell station) lift the tailgate handle and squirt as much water in there to loosen everything off. Water crossings were a problem too. After crossing the Nolan Brook, I had to get out all my recovery gear and dry them out. It really needs to be dust and water tight. I don't store anything in the back of it now and it's just constantly locked because I don't use it. After watching your video it appears that it's an upgrade to what I've got and it could possibly stop dust and water from getting in there but I'm not willing to take the risk again with my next Gen Raptor. Well, that's my experience. Cheers
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear about your experience. Appears there have been enhancements on the new unit from your response. It’s now held into place with pop rivets rather than self tapping screws so don’t expect it to come loose. The interior seems very robust and mine has been in the rain and on dusty roads since installing and the seals seem good. The standard tailgate was not sealed either (we could see this when we opened it up during the install) so I can’t see how it would be much different with the unit in compared to the standard tailgate. Sounds like you had a very unfortunate experience. Might be worth passing this onto the Huracan Fab team directly if you haven’t already. Ive been very impressed with the quality of all the parts when we installed.
