I have saved thousands of dollars with your videos. I have installed low-voltage lights in the front and in the back of my house. A total of 35 fixtures.

Awesome video! I am a contractor and as part of my service dedication to my dear customer I took on to troubleshoot, program and make work their system. This topic is quite specific and although I do have experience in many trades this particular issue I was dealing with for the first time. You helped me understand and feel ready to tackle this tomorrow. Thanks for sharing. All the best.

Nice video! Can you put more than one line (say 2) into a 12V slot? For example, 1 Zone) 8 patio lights 2 Zone) 3 Uplights 3 Zone) 2 Uplights. But, the transformer only has 2 12v slots.

Any tips on mounting a transformer to a stucco wall?
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 11 ай бұрын
Definitely don't put it on a stucco wall. I would buy a wood or metal pole, put that in the ground near the outlet, and mount the transformer onto that. You can buy these 2in by 2in square poles at Home Depot or Lowes and buy a metal screw. Hope this helps!

Great info, thanks Adam! I’m running step lights (every other step) down away from house, approx 200 ft total distance to bottom step (20 led step lights. Along the staircase, I’m leaving 2ft of extra wire at two separate tiers of the retaining wall, adjacent to steps. I may daisy chain from steps later, across each tier of the wall. Put everything on 15v? Even if I add 8-10 flood lights for retaining wall, everything will be on the one wire going back to transformer. Is that ok? Transformer size will likely be 150. Thanks!

Great videos. PLEASE get a tripod. The slight shake of holding the camera makes it difficult for me to watch, I get motion sick too easy.

If you are using a timer why do you need to plug in the photo cell?
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 3 жыл бұрын
The photocell wire that comes with the transformer needs to stay plugged in. If you take it out you'll make your lights stop working. It essentially will cut off the electrical current.

how do you decide on the 12v, 13v, 14v, or 15v option? For example i will have seven, 10 watt spot lights daisy chained on one 12/2 main run.
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, I'm officially back on KZfaq. I would say 14V or 15V. You'll need a meter reader to check the last light to see if its getting at least 9V. 10 daisy lights daisy chained is too many in a row. I would move the main wire to the middle of the 10 lights.

Hi Adam Question for you. Can you install the transformer indoors? Thanks
@aklighting8292
@aklighting8292 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can install a transformer indoors. We install them in the garage sometimes. Make sure there isn't a photocell, because then the lights will turn on and off based on the light inside.

Can I first plug in a wifi connector to an outlet, then plug a transformer into that, so I can turn on my outdoor lighting with my phone? Like I do my Christmas lights?
@galfert
@galfert Жыл бұрын
Technically yes you can, but there are ways to make it better. First you should make sure that the smart outlet plug is rated for outdoor use. Secondly although WiFi could work there are better wireless protocols that may be more reliable than WiFi. Notice I called it a smart outlet plug and I didn't use the word WiFi. This is because today there are better options for home automation than WiFi. If you really are interested in home automation then you should be using Zigbee or Matter/Thread devices with a Zigbee or Matter/Thread hub. It is that hub inside your home that can then be on WiFi or Ethernet allowing you to control everything with your smartphone or computer...etc. WiFi often time just doesn't get a good signal outside of people's homes, and even if it did the signal is unreliable and it overwhelms your WiFi network as you add more and more smart devices. Better to leave WiFi for those other things that must be on WiFi. A Zigbee or Matter/Thread hub can be things like Amazon Echo or Google Home or Apple HomePod or Samsung SmartThings or Home Assistant hub that you build ....among others. The nice thing about Zigbee and Matter/Thread devices is that if you change your mind tomorrow about what is your hub it will be compatible. And yes I purposely left out Z-wave devices as it think its days are numbered, but I may be wrong. The future seems to be Matter/Thread but that is too new and for now Zigbee is the way. You could also look into Lutron Casetta which is awesome but that has added cost of its own special hub but the nice thing about Lutron Caseta is that it will nicely integrate with other home automation hubs.
