In this video, Normunds is literally "in the field" and will be mounting a MikroTik ATL on the top of a roof.
Devices in the video:
ATL: mikrotik.com/product/atl18
(LHG can be used as an alternative)
mAP: mikrotik.com/product/RBmAP2nD
(note, mAP has 100mbit ports. For a Gigabit alternative, see "hEX S")
Cellmapper: www.cellmapper.net/map

You should drill two or three little holes in the bottom of the mounting box. Just in case any water appears in the box (this always happens due to condensation even in waterproof boxes). This way water in the box can easily run out and it will not damage the mAp.

Would like if you guys explained how to choose between ATL and LHG, when one is more appropriate than the other - while doing my research to setup something like this in a remote location, this seems like a question that pops up quite often. Someone wanted a very simplified version, so I explained it as: ATL if phone signal is good outside and LHG if phone signal is very bad outside - but that is not an "official" recommendation and very generalised/simplified.
@mikrotik
@mikrotik Жыл бұрын
Actually your conclusion is very good, I usually say the same. ATL supports more speed in some situations, so it's good for closer towers. LHG is better for "last mile" / poor signal areas, where your main focus is to get any connection at all.

@@mikrotik I was surprised to see such poor antenna performance (poor gain) compared to even an LHG(G) which has notorious poor gain around 800MHz. Would be great to see: 1. 5G LHGG 2. LHGG dish design to increase 800MHz (B20) way above 5dB.

Fair to point it out, but in rural setups, you will not reach 100Mbit realistically. If you do, instead of mAP it's posible to use a Gigabit switch instead, this would be a great little alternative: mikrotik.com/product/hex_s

Several years ago we moved to our current residence in the US and found the local cable internet provider was 50ft too far away between the house and the last pole mounted amplifier. I suggested they could install high quality hardline and I offered to pay for it but got no response. (com-finity). Our first provider ended up being centurylong DSL at 6 mb down and .9 up. Almost enough to be able to do something online and at a premium price. Next was a Mikrotik LTE6 device. I did like that one, I thought I had figured out where the tower was. Turns out I had found the wrong tower and the one I wanted was roughly 180 degrees opposite from where I had initially pointed the LTE6. Once this was resolved we did have a reasonable signal from 1 mile away and had a 50 mb download speed, more or less synchronous and very stable. Several years into this and the provider (ATT) placed a limit on speeds to 25 mb. At around the same time rates for the data only service jumped by 50% and fiber became available. Of course we have moved to fiber since the 4g LTE rates became outrageous. Based on personal experience the Mikrotik device was definitely the way to go if the ISP was cooperative.

your videos are very interesting. they are of great help. They show me clearly how to create a system that I plan to build at home. I have the tower (BTS) to the south of the apartment, while I would like to have the signal in the room which is located to the north. My biggest problem is to avoid inserting cables into the corrugated conduit, as there is no space, the tube with a section that is too narrow is crowded with other video cables and old telephone and voltage cables. What you have illustrated is a solution for using only the Wifi signal at home. while I would like to have a network cable to make good use of the entire signal. I have a HiFi system and I listen to music by downloading it from the internet with a subscription

Was wondering if in a case really similar to this, Latvian broadband and distance to tower, would there be a noticeable difference between SXT LTE6, LHGG LTE6 or ATL LTE18?
@mikrotik
@mikrotik 2 күн бұрын
1) SXT LTE6 is for short distance and low speed requirement, maybe 1-5km to tower. (Because CAT6 modem is slower than CAT18 modem in the ATL) 2) ATL is for higher speed connection, where tower is further, middle distance, but also has a lot of available bandwidth. It has CAT18 modem and more antennas for higher speeds. 3) LHG is for longest distance, where any kind of connection is needed, but speed is lower priority. It can be useful for very rural location, where phone has no service, but you have a high mast above the house roof, then you can reach useable internet with it.
