Episode#13 Custom Virtual Pinball Cabinet Build
In this video I will be teaching you how to make two types of drilling jigs and show you how to install the legs on your virtual pinball cabinet! This seems like an easy task but it can be tricky so this video will make it a lot easier to make accurate holes for the legs bolts. All great stuff for anyone looking to make their very own custom virtual pinball cabinet from scratch!
I have also created timestamps so you can jump to the part/info you need.
00:23 The height of the pinball leg mounting holes
01:18 Laying out the leg hole locations
01:59 The first problem you can have when drilling the holes on the corner and filing the edge
03:13 The second problem you will have when drilling the corner holes
03:39 3D printed leg drilling jig
04:48 Making a DIY scrap wood drilling jig
14:09 Setup for drilling the leg holts with the drilling jig
17:09 Drilling the bolt holes
18:37 Checking the fit of the brackets
19:44 Installing the pinball legs
21:46 Screwing down the leg brackets on the inside of the cabinet
22:39 Final view of cabinet with legs on!
Here is the link to the 3d printed drilling jig if you decide to go that route

Ahh man sorry, I hope your install went smooth. That settles it.....you can do anything to your cab until you've seen it in my videos....lol. Just kidding, my 2 week schedule for video uploads is too slow for someone wanting to get the coolest thing ever made. Heads up, next video up is a great one on the secrets of the drum brake and how to inspect them. Then it's back to the pinball cab. Thanks for the watch Todd!

Looks wicked-cool with the legs on. It's pretty big! I can't wait for you to start rigging up the wiring. Other peoples walk throughs on low voltage wiring confuses me. You are the crème de la crème explainer of vpinball stuff!
@wayofthewrench

Thanks Mike! Yeah it's an inch and a half wider on the cab but is normal length and the back box is a few inches wider and taller than normal. However, the size of the playfield is perfect with zero empty space. Yeah the wiring should be simple but filming it for people to learn will suck. So I am planning to do the wiring on a board or table so it's clear and then show it installed in the cab after. Thanks for the compliment and your support Mike!

@@wayofthewrench i got the software the way i want it which was a fun process, and now I was thinking of doing a small tabletop 1st, and learn from that, than go with the regular Size build like yours. can't wait to see how yours finishes off. I luv how you explain each step of the woodworking, and not just do it. Its teaching me so much ! Honestly Amazing work!

Sounds great, it's exciting to start a project like this and start collecting all the shinny bits for the cab. What kinda theme are you going to build? I still haven't narrowed down mine yet....too many cool graphics out there. Thanks for the watch!

@@wayofthewrench Yes I am building my cab right now. I have done all the 3D design in FreeCAD and have the plywood at the CNC shop (I do not have the setup not the proper equipment to do it myself). Custom side rails, Lock bar and Speaker Panel are being manufactured as well. ;-) Will work on the PC and Software setup in the meantime. Your previous videos will be useful for sure!

Hey. Sorry the link to the build guide is and the description and states to see the cabinet leg section on MJRs guide but no sign anywhere on that. I think it’s been removed maybe. I was wondering if you or anyone would be kind enough to provide a like so I can get one printed. Thanks for the prompt reply.

The hole locations listed in guide are 2" and 4" as noted in your video - but with 3 hole jig the 2nd hole will be at 2 1/4 instead of 2" (which I understand works in your design) but the 3D part most use would be 1/4" high wouldn't it (per MJR guide)?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
I'd have to look at it but as far as I remember the hole spacing is exactly the same otherwise the legs wouldn't bolt up. The difference in the jigs might be because of my cabinet design and the lower hole had to clear the 1" glue blocks that are in the bottom of the cabinet and they raised the bottom of the cabinet. Thanks fir the watch!
@markg9533
@markg9533 Жыл бұрын
@@wayofthewrench agree spacing is same between bolts. If you measure the 3D jig from bottom first hole is 2”, the second is 4.25. That’s the right spacing however that means in the front where hole 2 of 3D printed jig (bottom for front) is quarter inch high. Seems jig in build guide doesn’t match build guide. Your design is bit different. Great video somehow despite your guidance I didn’t drill at perfect angle even with jig, but used small rounded rasp to dig out minimal wood to fix.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
Yeah those holes are a pretty tight fit for the bolts so a little rasp filing won't hurt. Cool, you got your legs on! What's next?

@@wayofthewrench Making holes for fans. I decided to wait on some things until had plan or equipment. I have no hole saws close to size needed so trying to decide if want to buy something I‘ll only use once. Router with 3d printed jig or something? Seems could make rounded square with jig that would expose some of fan casing?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
The holes are big enough you could probably cut them out with a jig saw too! Just take your time.....or buy a hole saw kit, they aren't that expensive and you can use them for other things down the road.

What? Finished this video & the rest is all private? Disappointed to say the least.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. That would suck but the reason they are private is because I'm preloading scheduled videos for the Summer so I can take a break from KZfaq. These videos take a LOT of my time to film/make/edit and I only get an hour a day to work on them. So the videos that are private will be released soon, next one is out next Thursday and then they are scheduled every 2 weeks to come out. Sorry about the wait, but they are well worth it. I just finished making a couple videos on how to make a lockdown bar from scratch.....one without welding and one with welding. Sooo good. Thanks for the watch.
