😀 About VideoShowMeHow
-----------------------------------------------
⏩ What's with the gloves?
Not after any KZfaq fame here which is why I'm not in the vids - they're not about me they're about the how-to! I used the gloves for the first couple of projects I filmed which just happened to be messy ones and it kinda just became a thing - easy to spot my videos! If that's not your thing and you'd prefer to watch a face, all good, I won't be offended, there's plenty of better looking ones to watch already on KZfaq ;)
⏩ Where did this start?
I really enjoy tinkering with different projects - they usually require a whole bunch of research and learning along the way. It's satisfying on doing a thing and standing back and going 'Yeah! Totally did that!'. I had a bunch of mates asking 'how did you know how to do that?' and 'I couldn't never do that myself so I thought; I need to start something where I can help others that might be thinking the same thing :)
⏩ What will you find here?
The purpose is simply to make these videos as top quality and helpful as I can. They will always be free, there's ZERO agenda and the only motive is to try and upload what I would want to watch to help with that particular project. I'm also keen to keep building this little community and will try to answer all questions when asked - fire away :)

Thanks!! I replied to the 3rd video of yours on rivnuts.. I don't think I'll be able to use the tool.. Your videos on how to use wrenches will probably work better for me. I don't have much arm strength to squeeze the tool. Not to mention there's not much room to get the tool in where I need to put the rivnut in.

One commenter asked how you know how much stroke to use and you replied that you use a two-step process to not overdo it, which is fine. The tool I received came with pretty understandable instructions and a chart that lets you determine based on rivnut size and thickness of the metal you have, how much travel you should look for using the gauge in millimeters of travel. This allows you to get the right amount of "crush" without underdoing it (spinning rivnuts) or overdoing it and possibly breaking the mandrel/die.

You'll use this tool more than you think. Suggestion - do a test insert on a scrap piece so you can see how much pull is needed to set the insert. Especially on smaller sizes. Otherwise you can snap the mandrel with too much pull. You never pull handles enough to touch each other.

Very helpful and gave me the confidence to put my first rivnut I ever did right in the A-pillar of my 21+ year owned truck I love dearly :) I'm mechanically capable and I'm an engineer so that helped a lot but still, ballsy but no sweat with your instructions :) Thank You again!

Excellent video, thanks for that. The turny twisty thingy that releases the bolt was cool as well, I couldn't work out how to get the tool off one the nutsert was in. Project- I'm remounting the hatch/cover for a water tank on a narrow boat (UK)- it had bots welded underneath the plate, but they have corroded and half have disappeared. So I'm going to grind off what rests & use nutserts instead.

I'm fixing a real parcel shelf on my E46. Previous owner cut the middle section out for a messed up looking speaker shelf. Trying to get it back to oem look and keep trunk sound out. I have everything done, now time for the threaded insert. But, I don't want the insert to spin. And so I don't know if I need a specific type of insert made of Aluminum Brass or Steel? On KZfaq to hopefully find what insert type can I use so I can torque to bolt to roughly 10ft/lbs without spinning it on this sheet metal? Thank you

Previous owner of my classic mini used self tappers for the arches... I'm also here for upgrades. These nutserts will definitely cope with 10 ft/lbs, use a steel one but only if you buy the beefier rivet tool like this one shown (steel rivnuts + the one handed tool will be a bad time)

How about describing the feeling of how you know when the rivet nut is tight enough. Very rarely do we have the opportunity to see the other side to look at the back of the rivet nut. I was just doing this and for some reason I had to keep on tightening the “handily turntable thing“ that you were talking about for the rivet nut to grab. How about explaining that; where it’s supposed to be at the start of the operation.

I needed to drill out a hole on my jeep fender to install one of these inserts for an arb twin air compressor. Someone used this tool in stead an I assume put in the wrong size insert. It was not the one supplied by arb. So after putting in the screw he also supplied, it screwed in maybe a quarter of the way and the insert turned with the screw. I could get the screw out as everything turns together. I dremeled the head off the screw so I could uninstall the compressor bracket. How do I remove the insert and the headless screw?

@j.m.5995
@j.m.5995 2 жыл бұрын
I was hoping you would touch on yow to adjust the plunge/stroke depth on this tool. Thats what the little gauge on the bottom is for. Its possible to damage the rivet nuts themselves if you dont have this setup properly and you pull beyond the crush capacity of the inserted riv nut thereby essentially rendering that installed nut useless bc the threads have been destroyed
@VideoShowMeHow
@VideoShowMeHow 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you're correct, I usually just tread right down with the tool at max open, then insert full close, open 1/2 twist, compress again and perfect every time 👍 If you go too far it pulls the whole cylinder out of whack to the point you can't thread anything as you say
